The Nurse: What went wrong and what to do.

Hello everyone! I am a red rank player who plays both 50/50 as far as survivor/killer goes. My main killer has been Nurse for a very long time. I started maining Nurse because she was very fun to play as and her power level without addons meant I didn't have to rely on finite, RNG based resources. However, don't get me wrong. I was fully aware Nurse was an extremely powerful killer with her addons, to the point where she was the strongest killer in the game with her addons.

So when Nurse was confirmed for an addon rework, I was fine with it. I didn't really care about the addon rework because, well, I was rank 1 without the broken ones. Why should I care about the weaker ones?

Well...When the rework went onto the PTB, I went in to test and was immediately thrown for a loop both metaphorically and in game!

The basekit adjustment they made to Nurse made it so that she has to wait 1 second after 1 blink in order to get her blink back, and has to wait 3.5 seconds after a double blink in order to access her double blink. That doesn't sound like a lot, and in reality when you do the math, it isn't.

But when you adjust for Line of Sight breakers, the bugs regarding her blinks and how they interact with terrain, the auto aim on her blink lunge dragging her into terrain over survivors, and the fact that the Nurse without her blinks is slower than the survivors, the changes are far more crippling than they appear to be.

BHVR said when they adjusted the basekit of the Nurse is that they wanted to give survivors a more tangible window to escape the Nurse after her blinks. But this change does not accomplish that goal. On paper, survivors do not get any extra time to break LOS with Nurse, which is how to counter her. All the basekit nerf does is create this weird standoff sort of window. Where the power dynamic of the chase flips on its head and goes 100% into the survivors hands for 6 seconds total. 6 seconds is a long time in a chase, to throw all of that time into the survivors hands in terms of power, creates far too big an opportunity for survivors to make mistakes against Nurse, to play however they want against Nurse, to disrespect and taunt the Nurse, when there's nothing she can do about it.

And no longer do I only have my own word to show for it. The stats speak for themselves on this. Nurse, in red ranks, is statistically the 3rd worst killer. Her killrate is barely higher than Clown and Demogorgon. Her pickrate puts her at 10th place out of 17 for killers in red ranks. Her killrate puts her at 15 out of 17. This isn't a "you're just bad at Nurse" issue. This is a "Nurse is bad now" issue.

But even if that wasn't true, it doesn't change one thing about Nurse that was 100% true from this nerf. She isn't fun anymore. We play video games to have fun. I play Nurse because she is fun. I've moved on to Plague at this point because I've had way more fun playing my patented "please cleanse oh you don't want to? Ok I've got 2 apples anyways" build (despite apples being finite. Please buff Plague). Nurse just isn't fun to play as anymore. I spend more time staring at the ground and being helpless than I do mindgaming and outwitting survivors in chases. The counterplay to her has boiled down to running in a straight line since it wastes too much of her time to be worth chasing you.

So...what to do? Well I think the solution is clear: Revert the basekit nerf. That would end all of the frustrations I and many Nurse mains like me have with her, return a lot of the fun to her kit, (and to all the people saying it barely means anything. If it didn't do anything, why not just revert it? Unless maybe it did more than enough to hamper her?), and bring her back as far as viability goes. And because the addons "Dark Cincture" and "Fragile Wheeze" pertain to the basekit I'm asking be reverted, allow me to rework them.

  1. Dark Cincture (Successful blink strikes reduce the fatigue stun slightly (.15 seconds)
  2. Fragile Wheeze (Successful blink strikes reduce the fatigue stun moderately (.25 seconds).

I really Hope Nurse eventually gets fixed. The stats, the negative feedback. All of it. It shows that this rework was a failure.
