Do you think grind challenges are good/fun?

I'm curious what everyone thinks about challenges like this.

I feel like the system could be improved. Perhaps give us the ability to have a grind challenge and a master challenge we can progress simultaneously?

It's super lazy tbh. You play the game normally and get it. It just takes a very long time.

I checked the various challenges and went "urgh" and exited the game.

######### the archive and ######### the rift. Just gonna take part of the unlockable Lore through Youtube videos or through the wiki.

The one right after this is get 2 safe saves during end game collapse in one match.

Required too since its before the survivor path branches out.

seriously why are they making challenges team reliant

And you only get 3 rift fragments for that. Super worth it.

Its sad because good luck getting most of these when the killers actually trying or survivors if survivors want help with the rift i dont play as aggresive to give them a chance and sometimes they do the same for me.

You'll also be fighting your team for them not just the killer. 2 back to back safe challenges jeez.

Serious play flys out the window it becomes a BT unhook fest you want your team to get stomped so you can farm them for challenge progress.

I find it troublesome that they're the same as in previous level, but require more and reward the same amount.

I personally don't like grind challenges.

It's no real expression of skill or representative for the lore.

I liked the Challenges in the old Dynasty Warriors games, where you had to recreate the battle to unlock the best weapons and horses.

To me the archive is like the steam achievements plus.

To be honest I prefer grind ones rather than the 2 save sin the EGC as that is not in your control. It means another survivor or more has to be alive and not be on death hook. Its a strange challenge and doesnt reflect any skill or playtime but pure luck, people who play 4-8 matches per day may have an issue getting this over others.

The one thing I do think about grind challenges is that they should be done in such a way that you can only do so many per match. 2 gens, 2 saves etc and then make them lower numbers.

    for example

    tier 1 - 4 saves

    tier 2 - 7 saves

    tier 3 - 10 saves

    tier 4 - 14 saves.

I dont see an issue with having to take 4 - 8 matches to do a challenge since on average as you could do one per day or just over. I think challenges should be made as close as possible to be a one each day for the average player with tier 4 being a bit over the average.

This, its just like a multiplier to the previous challenges, with the clear intention that not all challenges are meant to be completed, forcing you to spend Auric cells to unlock more levels, if you are that way inclined.

The rewards just are not really worth it, the same around of fragments/BP for double the amount of work just puts me off wanting to finish it, and buying the next battle pass.

Depends on the challenge. Repair 15 gens is annoying, but I don't mind the unhooks ones.

So imagine being in a team where everyone is on the save two survivors during end game collapse.

The challenges that require a certain number of qualifying actions to complete over a series of matches are grindy agreed but at least are doable. The single trial ones however tend to be more on luck. Good luck with trying to complete the save two during EGC at purple and red ranks

As said elsewhere, the problem with these farming challenges is that they should be at the endpoint of a branch, not at the very beginning. Its right spot should be where Decisive Light is right now, just to be clear.

There are a lot of other challenges which are either more entertaining, more situational or more difficult to achieve for some reason - let me try those first!

Once I played all the interesting challenges I can gladly spend my time in the farming ones - I'll just play the game normally for a few days and eventually get the challenge done.

Using farming challenges as an early break point instead is non-sensical: you promote farming behaviour (duh!) or, if I don't want to partecipate in this farming fest, you'll simply alienate me from the Archives altogether - not saying I'm not going to partake in the game, but I'll surely be less engaged now.

Man, I love this whiny community. The challenges are not that bad, the EGC-Challenges will be some work, but thats it.

The rest is done by playing or by putting in a little bit effort in one game.

You have 3 weeks for those. And I bet some people will have finished it after 1 week already.

You know what these grind challenges will just make me do?

    Farm. Farm much more often.

Because it's boring to do. I want some of the more interesting challlenges, not these grinding bs.

It is not required. Because you can go around it.

And the tomes are also not required by design. You can ignore them and play normally.

No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

  • BBQnDemogorgon
    BBQnDemogorgon Member Posts: 3,615

You can't go around it unless you play killer.

They are the first two before there is even a path to take.

"You can ignore them and play normally."

Have you seen the amount of Trappers in the lobbies recently? The amount of survivors who suicide dives onto hooks? Do everything that isn't normally in a "normal game"?

Even if you ignore them, other people won't. And you won't have a normal experience because everyone else is doing the challenges while you don't.

No, this level and leaked level 4 (Even though we were told they were "placeholders") do not seem fun to me at all.

Some of these just seem excessively grindy or situational to even complete in a normal match(s) without being a farmer.

I didn't spoil myself with the leaks of the lore... but I'm not going to waste my time trying to complete some of these.

  • Fibijean

I don't mind grindy challenges, honestly. It's not like grinds in other games where you have to devote all your time exclusively to that one thing. You can just play and enjoy the game as you usually would, and get rewarded for doing so.

  • DeKillerKiller
    DeKillerKiller Member Posts: 547

It wouldnt be so bad if you could do two at a time. The problem is it feels like you're not accomplishing much if you only do one challenge at a time.

  • Alice_pbg
    Alice_pbg Member Posts: 6,722

But you can go around it. Can you not?

What about the amount of trappers?

Not more than what I see normally.

I see a lot of survivors doing stupid ######### everyday mate... that didn't change when the tome was released.

People play weird and you try to win the match... how is that any different from a regular day of playing dbd?

  • DeKillerKiller
    DeKillerKiller Member Posts: 547

I normally see my friends not attempt to compete for my unhook.

I normally see a lot less Trapper because not many people play him around Purple Ranks normally.

I normally see people do generators rather than look through chests for pointless stuff because they brought items with them anyways.

Whatever you want to say, these challlenges affects everyone even those who doesn't want to deal with it.

They're annoying and tedious. And that's why I'm not buying the pass, even if I reach level 70.

I seen tomb 3 challenges today and have to say i found it rather refreshing. Refreshing in the sense that i no longer feel tied to completing them. There is no way on this planet i'm even going to waste my time bothering with them. All i see is a time sink of stress i can do without!

  • Carlosylu
    Carlosylu Member Posts: 2,948

Yes, but not at the beggining of the challenges, maybe the last ones not for completing it.

It is somehow a way to please people who complained (I did) about people acting dumb like running aroung to get scared crows, to finnaly get teammates who at least focus on making a safe unhook.

I don't mind the killer ones. You're naturally gonna break a lot of pallets and gens during a normal game, so it's no trouble. You'll still get there within 4-5 games. So of course it's gonna have a high requirement like 40.

Though for survivor it's way worse. You have to compete with your teammates to get those saves, on release day like this, all survivors are gonna start farming each other with BT and do yolo saves, cause they know they have to save the hooked survivor before the two other with the same challenge do. This is basically making the game even more frustrating than it already is. They should've stuck with it being gens or lowered the requirement to 15 saves. It's gonna be one hell of a grind to get.

EDIT: But I'd rather want these grindy challenges than those situnational RNG challenges like saving/sacrificing during endgame.

    No and no.

They're boring as hell and as soon as I get my last putrid serums I'm never worrying about challenges again.

The Return (Rift Fragments) on Investment (Sweat & Time) of most challenges is just

    RIDICULOUS

And only 21 more days until we get the next batch of Ridiculousness.

I guess there's just one thing you can do, just smile.
