Tome challenges unhealthy for the game
Just had a game against an Insidious Bubba camping basement for the Monstrous Shrine challenge. He got the first guy down there, we noticed what he was doing and did gens. After the guy died, my friend (who was No Mither) go caught and brought there too. We finished the last gen just after he died, and I got caught due to some frame rate BS. But I'm not here to complain I died, I really don't care.
I AM here to complain that challenges like these are seriously stupid and just promote unhealthy or toxic gameplay. How such a challenge made it through design and testing into the actual game is beyond me. Besides the fact it's just a super lame experience, it must also be really frustrating for killers. We are red ranks, literally no one is going to fall for this and he will NEVER get this challenge unless he gets lucky. In fact he only got 3 kills because he was lucky my friend had NM and then lucky when he got me because I got a serious frame rate drop which forced me to run in the OPPOSITE direction I was originally facing. But even then, this guy depipped with the rest of us because he got 0 Gatekeeper, 0 Chaser, and 0 Malicious. He is literally throwing the game for a challenge.
Fact is stuff like this doesn't belong in the game. This one in particular is especially bad, but a lot of tome challenges are stupid in the same way. And I know that is really mean but there is no other descriptor I can use except STUPID. No one wants to play these games. Not the killer. Not the survivors. Why is it in the game? Feedback was given on stuff like this yet nothing had changed.
Devs... you need to go back to the drawing board with the tomes. This is not good for the game.

The kill 7 obessions one is basically old dying light in a challenge

They are basically promoting tunneling

yes

Then they need regular (unranked) matches where pips are not considered. Players enter at the rank they are and dont pip up or down, they just play the match against a que.

Almost all of us have been asking behavior for something like that for 2 years and have they said anything about it? Nope

My idea was the rift challenges could only be completed in the regular matches. This would encourage players to play regulars. Heck it would encourage players to play regulars so they dont have to worry about pips, but could run fun builds or try them out in a realistic environment.
It would leave ranked for being what it is without crazy challenges.

They badly need to hotfix adjust this mess. Or put in adjustments with the Chapter 14 release.
Of course the chances of that happening are 0 to none, but it's an outright joke when progression is broken and inconsistent with these challenges. The Iridescent Emblems one for example requires you to play 15 games and make sure you get Iri Emblems in each match. Why? Because multiple Iri Emblems aren't tracked by the challenge.
It's such a joke right now to the point of frustration. If BHVR just came out and said that these tome challenges aren't meant to actually be completed by most players within the period that the rift is active, fine, whatever. But the reward vs effort factor has gone way too far off the deep end with Tome 3 and it feels like it was purposely designed with intent to make players grind an ungodly amount or else just pay up to finish off the rift in time. The difficulty scale is just too ridiculous.

"Regular" matches would just be all farm matches.

But it would be less stressful.

I think the people I just hooked in the basement 8 times in a match would agree with you.

use Furtive Chase, it was in the shrine 2 weeks ago.

We don't need this.
We just need less stupid challenges that don't require you to throw a game or do something that is seriously toxic to another player.

Why are so many of them based around basement camping/obsession tunneling/and NOED using, lmfao
who made these?

The entire mode would just be filled with ppl wanting to farm rather than actually play. There would be no point selecting it for anything OTHER than farming challenges, and even then the challenges can conflict. You want unhooks, but the insidious bubba wants basement hooks.

Also the unhook survivors, kill 2 in endgame with noed, etc. It makes me shudder.
Plus the fact that they didn't bother to make sure that the game tracks progression properly (ie 25 safe unhooks) adds to the issues.
Its pure laziness that they didn't even give us the courtesy of making sure there werent bugs with something as basic as challenge tracking.

You should have seen how mad one of my survivors got when I camped his whole team in the basement with Bubba.
Whew.. that dude was belligerent.

Yeah I feel dirty doing these basement challenges. It's not how I normally play.

Whoever made these tome challenges needs firing tbh

He had every right to when you removed the ability to play the game tbh, just as you'd have the right if it was a sabo squad etc

I agree 100%
Even the less innocuous ones like ‘unhook 25 survivors’ causes hook bombing at the cost of regular gameplay.
Whats frustrating is that the devs seem to be so disconnected from their own game that they did not consider how the challenges will affect normal gameplay when coming up with them, even despite all the feedback from the community over the last few weeks from Tome 1, 2 and the leaked/bugged Tome 4.

Well I am now on Tome 3, with 25 unhooks. After that I am out as the next master challenge of unhooking two survivors in the EGC is impossible for a solo. Sure its possible in a freak stroke of luck, but its not a challenge you can prpeare for like say the Dark Sense one was.
I see your point about regular matches though so I wont mention the idea anymore.

Challenges or not, if I hook someone in the basement and I see someone else right outside, I am going tk try to get them both in there.

I like that the challenges exist. I do enjoy having objectives to work towards. With that said, many of them should be adjusted for the health of the game. I'll be the first to admit that I've done things I'm not especially proud of to accomplish my goals. When I was doing the obsession challenges I ran Rancor and just AFK'd the first 3 or 4 gens. Then I would scout for the obsession, down the obsession, wait for the last gen to be completed and Mori the obsession. Unless the obsession went and hid in a locker for the last 2 gens, there was no way for me to fail. I didn't care how many bloodpoints I got or if I de-pipped. I just wanted the obsession dead to move on to the next challenge.

I have seen so many people DCing when they see they are the obsession just to avoid getting tunneled/Mori'd. It's super sucky for survivors and I am a killer main saying this.
