Gen Speeds Poll

Playing both survivor and killer, gen speeds feel ridiculous. Maybe it's just me, and maybe I'm just stupid. So, why not let others decide either one?

    What do you mean?

It shows two choices for me.

    Slow the gens down

I think he means that a second objective should be implemented in-game so gens aren't the only mandatory thing needed to escape.

Regarding the poll, I play both sides and it's true that gens can pop at a pretty crazy speed if the team knows what to do, even more if there are toolboxes and perks involved. The more I play, the more I understand why nearly every killer runs Ruin. Sure, pros do gens anyway even if it's active, but it's still a bit slower even if they do hit every single great skill check, cause no additional progress is rewarded... and should it happen someone starts looking for the Hex and proceeds to try and break it, then that's one person not doing a gen, and in high ranks that could mean a lot.

So yes, I believe gens have been and still are being done at insane speeds. Killers who lack map pressure will struggle to keep them from popping even if they have counterperks, because at the end of the day, it's 4 vs 1. Ultimately it comes down to how good the killer and the survivors are.

I don't know if reducing the overall time needed to complete could just be the solution, maybe as said above: A secondary objective is what the game needs to avoid this. A mandatory one, of course. But that could heavily impact the core gameplay of DbD, so I don't know. But I do know that a lot of people (specially survivor mains) don't want changes regarding the speed of gens. So we'll see if the devs decide to implement a change or not.

TL;DR: Gen Speeds are fast / The more I play both sides, the more I understand the constant use of Ruin/ A change should be implemented but I'm not sure what specifically.

I usually run Ruin, too. Either it gets found in the first minute, or people tough it out and it takes 7-9 minutes instead of 5 without Ruin.

A second objective would be great, but what would it be? How could it be implemented?

Either way, whether something is done about gen speeds, or something new is added, I'd love to see some way to get matches longer than five minutes. From what I've seen, a gen being done alone takes roughly a minute up to a minute and a half. Which is how long most of my chases last. Whether that means I suck or not, I still think something should be done. Not to where it takes an eternity, but to where I can get something a chase done without two or three gens popping.

Same with playing survivor. Just makes matches boring. The only excitement I got from recent matches were if a killer brought NOED.

    The speed is fine

Gen speed is fine as it is the speed necessary for a balanced kill/escape rate. If you want longer games, extend the objective for both sides or make it to where camping and tunneling is no longer possible.

While I chose this option I would rather a second objective and not just longer M1.

True. I probably should have thought about a second objective, but nothing came to mind. Maybe something like fueling a gen before it starts? Certain areas around the map have fuel pumps, and you'd carry a gallon to a gen to start working on it? I dunno.

Stats definitely back up what I said here. Curious if anyone would change their vote now after the seeing the latest set of stats? How would it be balanced to slow gens down or add a second objective to survivor only when every killer is exceeding (some far exceeding) the 50% kill rate mark in red rank?

The thing that most bothers me is that survivors can hop on a generator and then get chased with windows and pallets all ready to use, no prep required. It should require interactions and pre-planning (in addition to positioning) to allow survivors to have pallets to use and windows to vault. My radical thoughts consist mostly of ropes tying pallets down to obstacles that take a measly 2 seconds to untie and allow for full pallet use. You could either do gens, or prepare to be chased.

That really doesn't make it far for them then. The whole thing is built around split second decisions. If you can't down them break off and go for someone else i do it all the time especially with swf. But gen speeds are ok. What makes them quicker is if you have more than 1 survivor on them. Plus killers have perks to slow repairs down.

Speed is fine at some ranks. But I think for red ranks it should slow down. Gen rushing is hard to stop, even with ruin once people can hit the greater skillchecks. Not a big change. But a few more seconds per gen at red ranks. I think it could allow more killers to be viable there perhaps. Just my opinion :)

True, but still that is a benefit for one side over the other. If you do that you have an unbalanced game. Granted i agree its harder at higher ranks, but at the same time you need to develop a play strat to combat that. I've still 3 or 4k most times even without ruin. The only balance to that i could think of is reducing wiggle timer but there is a perk for that now lol.
