Should there be inherent risk to being the obession?
Right now if you run a perk that makes you the obession and the killer isn't running any related perks you are essentially running a supposed risk perk without ANY of the risk.
Should there be some inherent risk to being the obession to actually discourage people from becoming one outside of killers running perks for it? On the flip side of this, I also think there should be a SMALL bonus to the obession so if no one is running perks they at least get something for it.
Right now it feels like an empty mechanic that is band-aided on to perks. I feel like it could be a cool system that is present in every game and doesn't require perks to show up or be used, but instead they enhance the interaction in a match with it.
How does everyone else feel about it? Obviously it is pretty low on the list of things DbD needs but at some point we should finish the mechanic up.

I fully agree with you. Maybe a vault speed increase but in return the killer gains bloodlust 50% faster when in a chase with the obsession idk

Yes, there needs to be an inherent risk to being the obsession. Being the obsession is more like a status during the trial rather than a state you don't want to be in.
Being the obsession should be all about high risk, high reward plays. Lets say for example the Obsession gets faster struggle speed when being carried by the killer, they can vault windows and pallets slightly faster, and other stuff that makes it so the obsession can be better at a chase against the killer. To compensate for that, killers have a shorter cooldown on missed or hit attacks when chasing the obsession, they break pallets faster or get bloodlust faster when chasing them, or they could mori them on their final hook.
Just something small or big that would make feeling like being the obsession means something rather than "I brought Decisive Strike".

I just want the Obsession perks to be more threatening to the Obsession.
Right now only Furtive Chase (lol) and Remember me actually want you to go after the Obsession.
Rancor wants you to save them for last as they will be the easiest target at the end.
STBFL, Dying Light and PWYF explicitly don't want you to go after the Obsession.
Nemesis works on everyone besides the Current Obsession.

Exactly! When I started this game I wondered what being the obession meant. It was pretty sad to learn it meant someone brought a perk in and nothig more :(
Yessss it's like almost no risk on any of them from the get-go.

Well I mean with old dying light you knew you were gonna be tunneled

Only risk is Rancor.

Maybe hooking the Obsession gives the Killer buff #1, hooking them again grants buff #2, but killing them in any way removes buffs #1 & #2 & gives debuff #1.
Them going from phase 1 to 2 while on the Hook would not give buff #2, deincentivizing camping to get buff #2.
Hooking a new Obsession would remove any buffs & debuffs you had and grants the buffs or debuff, depending on the new Obsession's state on the Hook.
Disconnected Obsessions would remove all buffs & debuffs.
I tried.

Yes it is about the only good design in regards to the obession I think.
This was a good attempt. It rewards playing with the obession instead of ignoring them and it gives it value without making it mandatory to win to the point of tunneling, depending on the buffs of course. Maybe the buffs could even be unique to the obession mechanic.

I'd say that also highlighting the Obsession's aura when you see them/during a chase would make it easier for killers to actually know who the Obsession is without having to remember names. It would only really help in the beginning before anyone gets hurt/hooked, but at least it would help instead of making the Obsession a guessing game.

The obsession already gets a small bonus of 1000BP when he/she dies or escapes.

That's such a risky chance to take for such a great reward.
