New Yamaoka Map is Way Too Dark
It's really hard to enjoy the new map when you can hardly see in front of you. It's too dark for survivor and killer. I play on PS4 so I can't make adjustments like people on PC can. Anyone else having this issue with the new map?

Yeah, I am having the same problem with that map, its somehow darker than the lower floor on Gideons meat plant

I noticed it was dark but I didnβt think much of it

I really struggle to see on that map.
2 -
I literallly lost a match where I found NO SURVIVORS ALL GAME it was just too dark. I never even scored a hit until the gates were open and I Saw them going for it.
4 -
I lose survivors very easily on that map.
1 -
The old map is even darker now too.

What type of screen are you using OP? I am about to upgrade mine and I wondered if it was just my TV. Its so dark the grass there should be even worse than the original map. IDK how you're suposed to hit anyone in the charge mode.

I was playing as Ghostface on it earlier, and it was insanely hard to find people and I lost track of survivors a lot. Also, don't even try crouching lol. I still ended up getting a 3k though and gave the last person hatch, I had to hear my way around lol. I played as survivor too, and it felt like everytime I'd vault from the shrine the killer would lose me immediately. Traps are extremely hard to see though. It definitely needs to be brighter or have less vegetation :)

I'm on PC and it feels just as bad. I don't think a map should ever be THIS stealth-focused, it's horrible.

i really like it. they should just make survivor cosmetics brighter and maps darker. adds to the horror theme.

Yeah, the map is noticeably darker now.

I love how dark it looks. Adds that creepy vibe.

you need to get your vision checked out, I can see just fine

I am currently using a LG UHD TV but I am about to switch to a SmartTV. I don't know if it is an issue that can be fixed with TV settings. I've tried different picture modes and adjusted the color, tint, saturation, etc. but it doesn't really make the map any less dark.

I'm pretty sure I have had more "Scooby Doo" moments on this map than a horror game rightfully should.
1 -
Just like, fix the gens, they'll make I brighter.
In all seriousness I'm afraid this issue seems locked to consoles for some reason so I am not too optimistic about the odds that this will get fixed anytime soon.

This map is too dark both for survivors and killer. As survivor I can at least use 3rd person to still compensate for it, but with the first person view of killer, it's a nightmare.
Additionally, it's so dark, that after a few games of getting the Sanctum of Wrath map repeatedly, it's causes me to get some serious eye strain and headaches.
(On a side note, this map got me to create a forum account, so there's that.)

everyone here other than you finds the map darker than the other ones/darker than it should be. maybe you need to get your eyes checked out and maybe also a vibe check for being a smart ass with that comment of yours ?

i am using whatever map offerings i have to avoid that particular map. it's crazy dark and i've had survivors literally in front of me and i could not see sh*t. i came to the forums to make a thread about the map, you were faster and i'm glad. hope they manage to adjust the brightness ( not all graphic cards can adjust brightness/gamma and if you do it on control panel settings, it ruins a lot of visual stuff, at least for me :'(

Agreed. I keep my game bright so I can actually see people on maps like the game. Sanctum of wrath has super weird contrast that makes it almost impossible to see. It isn't too bad as survivor but it seems cancerous as killer.

Its really hard to see on this map as a survivor on console. The map itself is dark but going against the Legion recently made it really difficult to see, perhaps even made it worse.
0 -
I think so as well OP.
They should tone it down a bit because itβs pretty dark especially if you are hit with frenzy by a Legion or get puked on by Plague.

Thank you! You guys are awesome, I was searching through the forums and couldn't find anyone discussing or acknowledging this. Have a great day!
3 -
Awesome, good to know it will be looked into.

Isn't that fine that some maps are darker than others, just like some maps are larger than others? It's just more variety where some maps will be harder or easier for certain killers, survivors, or builds.
Feels like most maps are too bright anyway.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say I really appreciate all of the discussion on this thread which allowed it to get the attention of the devs. I'm really glad everyone voiced their concerns and now know this issue will get handled in the near future. Cheers!

I have to disagree.
Map size is one thing, but if it's too dark it creates frustrations for both sides. As killer, you can't find survivors or you lose them easily. As survivor, you're likely to run into walls or get caught on tiles which will cause you to lose chases prematurely.
I think gameplay has to come before realism on this one.

I wasn't referring to realism, i was referring to game play.
"but if it's too dark it creates frustrations for both sides."
I don't think this is true at all.
As survivor you have lots of outplay potential through jukes and hiding.
As certain killers like Ghostface it helps you sneak up on people easier.

No, it is not fine. The sanctum of wrath is so large, AND dark, that it becomes a pain in the ass to play it. Not to mention every Blendette in the community is taking advantage of it's increased presence I'm the map queue. They can make maps darker for ambience/variety without making them unplayable.
Playability > Everything else. And I find it funny you said "builds". As if survivors use more than one.

Idk, I don't really see sitting still in a bush with camo clothes as outplaying anything.
I had a game as killer today on Sanctum where 2 people were called 'if new map DC', where sure enough they quickly gave up and DC'd. So I don't even know if survivors like it.
1 -
Blendette is an entirely separate issue that needs fixing, not the map.
The map is also very much playable. I'd even go as far as to say it's quite killer sided. It's extremely easy to lock down a 3 gen on that map.

I keep hitting walls in the bushes around the center of the map, and get downed because of it. The new map has some foliage issues on top of the darkness in that area. I can't tell how bad it is though because the darkness is so bad I don't know what is actually there xD

It's really similar to Azarov's Resting Place. It is definitely survivor sided if they manage to spread gens out to avoid a 3 gen, and killer sided if they manage to 3 gen themselves. I do feel it needs to be brightened up though. As killer you can barely see scratch marks or blood and as survivor you get caught on everything you can't see.

Or just make the killers more intimidating. This game never really has been about horror. it's had that theme but only stealth killers can scare you, not the map. It's just lazy to make an extremely small and make it dark as hell to even it out. It's easily my least favorite map.

Maybe you can see, but there's no need to be abrasive.
As for me, I had an eye appointment recently that told me my vision was fine. My brightness is up on my TV (Xbox) and I have a hard time seeing on that map.
1 -
Oh but you can adjust. Turn the brightness on your tv up in the TVs menu. I did this just because of that map. Worked like a charm.

Are we going to talk about how nurse can't blink in several locations on this map, but most notably anywhere near statues?
1 -
Maps used to be way darker. Some corners were quite litterally pitch black. Not even the brightest screen or filter could change, because there was quite litterally no colour rendered. But back then we also had a functional and reliable sound system. Can't see the Blendette? Atleast you can hear her. Now that sound is a mess, and new maps get darker (Hawkin's and Yamaoka), I see quite litterally dark times ahead.

we are talking about pc not the greatest gaming experience of all time xbox one
yeah I never knew maps used to be way darker and atmospheric and used a better shadow system that didn't look like actual defecation. I never knew claudette was the best survivor to play because I totally didn't see one in every single match pre darkness among us or maybe that one lunar event in 2017. maps should of stayed dark, that shouldn't be the problem, but a character which is 10x darker than the others shouldn't stay. the old graphics were way better, gave the game a more unique look, until that legion engine update which messed up both the graphics and audio. now it looks like an old ps2 or ugly ps3 game

For PC users, use Nvidia Freestyle.

Doesn't matter, it's gonna be changed π
1 -
My point still stands. It's not just a problem on PC.
Once again, no need to be rude. Console happens to be the best option for me.
0 -
Good, then it will be even easier for me to see Blendette's on the map with Freestyle. Adaptive Sharpness and contrast, bois!

Racist.
0 -
your point is that you are looking at a big tv screen meant for watching shows and movies while sitting on a couch with terrible robotic and glitchy aiming and frame issues making it hard to focus on anything really. that doesn't really translate well here
I am very sorry and apologize for being racist, I swear I will never make any racist remarks again
0 -
Yeah itβs dark for me too. I find a few too dark so I need to up my gamma
0 -
A. It really isn't that bad. Worse than PC, yes, but not by much.
B. Once again, my original point was that it is a problem on BOTH platforms, not just PC. Just because I'm on console doesn't mean my opinions and needs are invalidated.

well a friend came over around Christmas and brought one of those ps4 slims that had dbd on it and I tried it out ,because why not, and the que times were awful, the frame rate terrible, the huge screen made it hard to focus, terrible controls making moving around super clumsy compared to pc, that freaking weird screen effect on tvs that make shadows have a white color to them, and playing on a couch. im fine with devs downgrading all the graphics and make the maps super bright on console, but leave pc alone, it doesn't need to look crappier than it already is just to please console peasants
also i played it on a switch and it was even worse than the ps4, its on lowest settings and it wasn't even at 100% resolution they had to downgrade it so much. it was literally impossible to find a killer match, at least survivor would take only a few seconds which was good
