New key add on
How about an ultra rare add on that let's you use your key on a chest to open it immediately and receive an item of rare or greater value complete with two add ons. You cannot get another key, however, that would be silly. The key is consumed when doing this. Luck, Up the Ante and Plunderer's stack with it.
Broken keys would finally be good for something!

Broken keys let you see fellow survivors, obsession, or possibly others given add-ons. They're not just for black locks, it's neat having another option.

The obsession add on is cool but the amount of charges keys have are negligible so using it for aura reading is a waste. If they decreased how quickly charges were consumed it would be cool

Yeah I did the "deplete 3 keys" challenge last night and used broken ones for this reason. It really is too short, and you have to use add-ons that extend the time (rare key is only 5 seconds, but can open locks). New add-ons would be really nice, as you suggest, as well as some tweaking to make them more usable. A lot of solo players struggle as well as want to be more like SWF, and I feel like key auras are the way to go with that, plus giving them more benefit in-game without opening up hatches that killers hate so much.

It'd be cool if there was a skill check tied to it that gets easier depending on the key used - The rarer the key, the easier the check.
I'd go so far as to say it might even be fun!
