So blinding a killer doesn't always cause a survivor drop?
Hi all. Just completed my last challenge in level 3 *smug mood activated*
But seriously, my last challenge was Decisive Light. As a long time player, I actually did not know that you can blind a killer and they don't necessarily drop their survivor.
Why is this? I've noticed that sometimes as killer I've been pallet hit and haven't dropped my survivor.

Have to do it at the end of the pickup animation because it's uninterruptible

You can’t drop a survivor if you haven’t even picked them up yet. Blinds and stuns does nothing during the pickup animation. Most people have poor timing so they blind the killer early and it does nothing. Same goes for stuns, but only tards miss that.

Others explained it already, but just out of interest: Did this complete your challenge or did it not count as carrying the survivor?

Ok cheers.
So they have to be fully for them to drop.
I have never really used flashlights.

Yes it counted and I got the challenge.
The Wraith was picking up the survivor, as he got them on his shoulder...I flashed him.
A "Killer Blinded" notification then popped up but he kept hold of the survivor.

Flashlights require a lot of skill. It's one of the most diffcult items to use.

Well you did it too early then. The killer has to exit the animation and be blinded for the flashlight save to work. L2P, etc etc.

Ok. But it did count with the Tome challenge, so that's fine with me.

At one point they made it so that an early flashlight save would cause the survivor to drop, and it ended up being so easy to do that it was borderline overpowered and these forums were filled to the brim with killer tears. That's why it doesn't work without good timing.

Ok thanks.
I'm a real flashlight novice and have honestly only used them for the Tome challenges.

I can't describe it through text that well but the time you should start blinding is around when the killer hoists the survivor to their shoulder. As said you can't interrupt animations with a stun, so you need the blind to finish right as the killer regains control of their character.
To get a feel for the timing you could try finding a recent youtube video/stream clip that included a flashlight save and try to get a basic feel for it. It doesn't have to be millisecond perfect as the killer can't look away truly instantly, but if the killer is quick to react it certainly requires precise timing.
Here's a video showing an example. It should start playing right at an example of a save, and there's even slow motion right afterwards.
Of course, in an actual match actually being in position to get the save might be harder than the actual save itself, but good luck 😄

Gotta time it exactly right.
Takes some practice, but if you can position yourself well it’s not too hard.

True. I remember when I was rank 20, it was maybe my 3rd match ever and I had my random flashlight save easy way lol

Thanks for the info chaps.
