I’m new to DBD. My thoughts...

I’ve been playing on the PS4 for about 2 months now. I started off as killer and noticed how easy it can be for the killer to win, although that’s the whole point in a sense.

I actually made it to Rank 4-5 as a survivor. Which I think is a lie. I feel more like an 8-10 at times. What I’m starting to see is that unless the killer is really bad at the game the team cannot win. No amount of juking, looping, flash lights, etc helps because the killer has a myriad of perks AND addons that hinders not only the team but also the environment that the survivors need to survive. Most of the survivor perks are too situational to be useful, or makes little difference. I don’t really complain about Hex Ruin because Ruin helps keep players from gen rushing. I don’t even play without Jake’s Iron Will because even if they fail to see all the scratch marks and blood they snuff me out because they hear me crying in the corn or behind some object. Unless you run all of those “meta” perks. Which then makes the hame boring. I want to play as an altruistic healer type guy, but it doesn’t matter because meta wins.

I simply feel that for survivors the game is too focused on particular perks that, without them, you lose waay more often. Like if I hit a killer with a pallet maybe it should slow their speed down to survivor speed for a few seconds. I just slammed a 35-45lb object onto your head. Yet after being stunned you’re on my ass again in like 5 seconds. Whereas when a player gets hit they leave blood, red marks, AND noise! On top of that killers like to run perks and addons which makes pallets ineffective or useless too.

What I really want to see is a buff to the survivor perks to make them all worthwhile. Why run anything like Head On when perks like Borrowed Time, Balanced Landing, and Dead Hard help you escape. Lol

Even with survivor communication it would only reinforce the statement that the survivors will utilize the same few “meta” perks, which is why the killer often complains about the overall toxicity of survivors. They’re only doing that because the other perks pale in comparison. This forces the killer to run more toxic plays too regardless of having to play the killer. There’s nothing encouraging any of players, survivors or killer, to not be toxic from what I can see so far. In fact, we’re rewarded for it! So why not be toxic?

Even if players couldn’t communicate that wouldn’t stop them from being toxic. It might hinder the amount of shenanigans that they could pull off. I’ve seen things like body blocking. Constant flashing. Getting Head On’ed during a chase. 4 Blendettes doing some sort of illusory shadow clone jutsu type nonsense. What I hate most of all is when a SWF player purposefully D/Cs during a basement hook, or at a corner of the map to waste all the killers time. I’ve seen nonsense like this even as a green killer. So I assume it’s a lot worse as red. Lol

As others have said, we see a lot of posts like this on the forums from new players.

We tell them to get to red ranks with killer and come back.

Then we see a post of them talking about "wow how wrong I was" after just even getting to purple ranks.

The game seems killers sided early on when survivors just play dumb, but after you start playing against survivors that know what they're doing they are very much the power role.

Not only do survivors not need those meta perks, but they could all be running zero perks at all and they would still be the power role, that's how strong they are currently.

  • What? Statistics show that killers get even better at red ranks. Are there more coordinated or competent or annoyiny survivors at red ranks? Yes. Do kill rates still go up despite those? Yes.

All these "wait till you rank up" arguments are quite nonsensical

Sorry, Killers are only as strong as survivor's are stupid. I have played Random queues throughout my whole DBD life by the way.

Run bond and you'll be surprised at how much incompetent mistakes are getting thrown out there in the red ranks, It's ridiculous.

Killers are not getting strong, Survivors are just getting stupid skill wise. The good survivors are banding up and joining SWF because Random queue is just that horrid and it's rare you actually see a survivor who knows what he is doing.

Your suggestion on pallet slow just shows how little understanding of distances in this game works. Not trying to be mean, Just saying how it is. Once you get experience enough you'll realize how good a pallet stun is creating in distance, There is no need to buff it. Heck pallets aren't the only thing that widens distances, Windows and weird pathing to throw killers off works.

Ummm......no...just no. You have little experience to base your opinion on and until you get to rank 1 killer you really aren't correct in your feelings. Killer is not built to win....it's actually pretty balanced.

Yes this is what we see from the statistics. How blind could I be.

That's the problem with this game, in like 80% of the game killers are king, and the other 20% is the high ranks where survivors destroy.

  • It's not you, it's because of the ridiculous matchmaker and ranking system.

As killer I just lose like every match because I get nothing but red rank SWF and there is NOTHING I can do; yet I still don't de-pip or just barely do for like 10 games in a row, then I get a match where they just roll over and suicide or such and somehow re-pip again anyways.

This is one of the worst matchmaking set ups I've seen in a game since Evolve.

Oh you mean the stats that are heavily flawed and we were told not to draw conclusions from as you are now because of those flaws?

Yes. Heavily. If you don't like them collect your own.

That is a major issue for balancing I agree.

This is kind of why I think we need balancing that scales based on ranks. IE somehow to make the game easier for survivors at low tiers to different degrees, but make it harder for survivors as you get too higher ranks.

Well I play on switch and there is no "SWF", and I still find it super easy to kill everyone at red ranks. Maybe one survives.

No SWF on switch? Well, you play in a different field, sir. There's no comparing.

I've been playing for a little over a month and I've posted a few times. My observation is obvious but usually a good summary of many debates on the forums: Balancing issues vary tremendously between high and low ranks. It's seems generally true that the lower your survivor rank, the more the odds shift in your favor, especially when playing with friends. When you start playing, the killer just destroys you. But even one red rank survivor can carry a whole team against a mid-rank killer. That's why I'm really sympathetic to the devs regarding balancing issues. I don't think there's a way to get it right for the whole player base.

If your playing survivor there are ways to figure out what peeks a killer is using via how they act and YOU as a player need to learn how to counter killer perks with your own perks

Maybe things are different on PS4, but on PC, the killer has to be significantly more skilled than the survivors to get anything done. Any group of somewhat competent survivors will crush the killer unless you're using a top tier killer with the best perks and add-ons.

You're complaining about the pallet drop? In the majority of my games, if I'm involved in a chase and get a pallet dropped on my head, it probably means I'm going to immediately lose two generators.

If everyone has a basic understanding of the game, the survivors have a massive advantage, and really only lose when they try and poke at the killer too much.

Welcome to the game! It's complex, fun, presents interesting moral choices, and we hope you enjoy it. :)

Not really. The stats have shown us that killers win the most games on red ranks, and unless you are talking about the worst killers, no side is really underpowered

I can only tell you from my perspective here. You dont need meta perks as a survivor. You said yourself that you dont feel like you belong in your current rank. From my experience all the meta perks makes survivor easier and you get used to that. You depend more on your perks than on your skill. I noticed it myself in different times. I once played with urban invasion. I got so used to it and got really bad in chases when I unequiped it. Same with dead hard. I got hit so often because I got greedy with pallets. Or my latest example is iron will. I unequiped it about a month ago. I realized how bad I got at jungle gyms and how hard it was to lose the killer without it. So now I dont play meta anymore and it improved my playstyle. I actually got a better survivor.

My advice to you is dont run perks you dont want to and only because they are meta. At the beginning you will lose many games but believe me you will learn how to play better. I have so many matches I go in even without any perks and perform better than my team mates. DbD really makes you addicted to certain perks.

I agree with some of your points. That's the main problem with the game currently. Premades are better than killers. But killers are better than solo players. So in the end everyone is crying except premades. Who are just toxic, create imbalance in the game and skew statistics.

I started as survivor, never felt like killers OP there. Kind of always blamed myself not learning fast enough. Like everyone I was facing were a newbie and they got better. I know now most of them were probably smurfs.

Then when I switched to killer. OMG those were some keyboard smashing days. Especially in mid-ranks, I thought I was loosing my mind. Always had a rank 2 survivor in my rank 15-12 lobby, driving me crazy with flashlight spams. That phase got dimmed after I got more experience and learnt how to deal with them.

Then my long lasting survivor phase. I felt like every time I died it's because of killer was OP. Or I needed a specific perk that would have saved me. That's how I ended up uclocking every single teachable perk available. There are some regrets here. I laugh myself now, how naive I was.

75% of the time if your team got destroyed. It is because your team couldn't work together well. Sometimes I end up with 3 randoms, working in game like we read each others mind, let alone comms. That's when you see the difference playing as a well group and what it can do.

Now let's see meta perks. The only time I need meta perks when I play killer. As survivor yes I do miss some metas when I am not running them, but in the end I could got escape if we play good as a team. But as killer, you'll see if you continue and rank up as killer, even average survivors can slip through because you made one mistake with another survivor. Or 3 of them knew what they were doing. Killer meta perks give you a great boost, for closing this 4vs1 gap. They back you up like a good teammate.

TL;DR I can escape as survivor more often than get kills as killer without any perks, items or add-ons (In red ranks). So the way I see it is, meta need cripples killers more.

Sounds like you need to get better at survivor.

Rank doesn't always equal skill, as you just showed us. Rank 4 or 5 in 2 months... this game is about skill, not rank. Time = skill. You're still a baby survivor.
