Before you begin reading this thread, I'm just trying to start a positive discussion for the community to look at Oni versus some killers that have some relation to his mechanics/abilities. Sorry in advance, but there is no TL;DR version. I've recently P2'd Oni and am still playing him after the changes and have made it to both Rank 1 as killer and a survivor, so I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of the game mechanics for DBD.

Oni Vs. Billy

In his current form after adjustments, what advantages does Oni have over Hillbilly?

  • I personally feel like Oni is more beginner friendly albeit his dash attack takes some getting used to, especially with the added lunge at the end of a dash. He does have a little bit more mind-gaming potential while in sprint than Hillbilly with his strafe, but he does have limited turning ability so he still can be caught up in a loop with lots of tight turns.
  • But I feel like Hillbilly far outshines Oni as a killer after Oni's flick adjustments - if you get good with Billy's chainsaw ability, you don't have to do the work of picking up blood orbs, being limited to a timer, and can keep the ability to instadown a survivor throughout the trial at the cost of a small penalty if you whiff/run into an object. Going along with that, you can always charge up your chainsaw and sprint towards them to make up for any lost distance. Billy has Oni's ability to close range insta-down people who find themselves out of place without the camera moving upwards at the slight disadvantage of charging up his chainsaw (but you can hold the charge until you're certain that you'll land the hit, while Oni is eventually forced to charge forward if you hold down the mouse button long enough).

Both killers can be looped by good survivors - there's no doubt about that and is the case with many killers on the killer roster.

Oni Vs. Myers

In his current form after adjustments, what advantages does Oni have over Myers?

  • Both share a mechanic in common - you have to find a survivor and gain stalk/blood orbs off of them. However, Oni must first damage a survivor in order to start progressing towards his demon mode. Myers has the ability to stalk survivors from a distance (and remain very stealthy with his small terror radius which is great for early game) to build up his power. Oni has the advantage that it's much easier to apply pressure on generators if the survivors are spaced out and working on gens while he's in demon mode. A small detail to note is that Myers has a limited amount of stalk that he can pull off of each survivor (not that you'll necessarily run out of stalk if you are considerate of making the most out of your T3 mode) while Oni can in theory go into demon mode as much as he wants if any survivor remains injured.
  • However, Myers has a few things that can punish survivors much easier. If you wisely 99% the progress bar to T3, you can sneak up on a survivor unannounced with M&A then pop it off. Oni announces map-wide that he's going into his demon mode, so it seems that survivors will drop doing gens and hide in lockers (unless you run Iron Maiden). Demon Oni seems to have pallet destruction potential over T3 Myers (while sprinting at a survivor, otherwise his destruction animation seems like it's just as long as the other killers), while Myers has the upper hand at window potential with loops, especially if you run bamboozle. Myers hurts much more if you lose distance from a survivor, since he has no sprinting ability.

Your thoughts? Please don't start bashing me/other people for my/their opinions - there's enough of that on this forum as it is. If you disagree with me/others, please give a good counter argument rather than "Ok boomer".
