How Last Year may just outshine DBD in the upcoming year.
-The Problems
Ok, we all know how with the release of last year, word went around that it was going to "be the end" of DBD. to be honest i was one of those people, until the hype for it died down and/when it was released. Due to it coming out on the steam store and eventually on consoles, the implication of the voice chat in-game, and the one thing it has that DBD doesn't, i believe it may become as, or more popular than DBD. The thing that Last Year has that DBD doesn't is that after one of the classmates or survivors are killed, you can save them an infinite amount of times, and the game only ends when all survivors are either dead, escaped, some escaped and some dead, or the timer of the match ending. DBD doesn't have this, unless you count that you can be saved by another survivor but this can only happen from the hook twice before you die, not being able to be apart of the match any longer unless you are playing SWF on comms with other survivors.
-Voice Comms
im not saying the only way they can stop this from happening is threw the implication of voice communication between survivors, although it isn't a bad idea and the killers need to get over the fact that it could happen very soon, due to the fact that the main thing this game lacks is how alone you are as a solo player, and how me as a solo player myself, feel like if im not in a swf group, half my matches have me at a disadvantage due to the heavily flawed rank system (just today i had another survivor i was matched with that was rank 8 and played like a rank 20) and i doubt a new rank system will fix this issue because we still feel alone. and you could argue the fact that it's a horror game and that your suppose to feel like this, but after playing it for as long as i have it goes from scary to annoying, implemented game chat would not only give survivors a chance to communicate but make them feel like they actually arent alone because they arent, they have 3 other people with them. yes the killer should be able to hear them talking, but no the killer should not be able to talk to stop toxicity from sparking every match. and do not argue that this would cause every survivor to blast music or be annoying because there is a simple trick that solves this issue in every game, it's called the mute button, and the report button.
-The one problem DBD has that Last Year doesn't
Ok back to the thing that Last Year has that DBD doesn't and what most likely sparked that Last Year was going to "kill" DBD, a way to play the game after your death and possibly come back. Last Year allows you to save any dead survivor from a random location on the map after an small timer, the killer can try and protect this survivor, or protect the objective. now im not saying they should do the same thing because that would literally be stealing the same game mechanic from another game, im saying they should make a way for a dead survivor to either come back possibly, or help the remaining teammates and still earn BP as an incentive to stay, and only would your BP, Items and Add-Ons (if your brought a black ward), and rank points (with the new system coming soon) be given until after all 4 survivors are dead.
-Possible way to fix the problem above
I thought a way they could fix this was make it to when you are "sacrificed to the entity" you're body was put into a glass dome above the match and your spirit was allowed to go back into the match, now whether or not you can be saved again is for someone to come up with, because i thought that as a spirit you could help other survivors, maybe you could pick up used pallets outside of the killers terror radius, maybe survivors couldn't see spirits, maybe you could do generators at half or 1/4 regular speed but only if the generator isn't damaged but the killer(allowing the killer to stop all gen progress of spirits), maybe you could save hooked teammates that were still alive, maybe you couldn't talk to the remaining survivors if you have died (if voice communication is implemented), but just think of the possibility here, that you still had a purpose to stay after death as a solo player and still earn BP and Rank points, and yes you could argue that this would make SWF on seperate comms stronger, but maybe as a spirit you cant see the killer only hear his heartbeat at a set audio (meaning it would be a small heartbeat sound whenever the survivor is in the terror radius of the killer [this would make it so it wasnt so loud] whether that is 32 meters or 2)
-some other possible problems with everything said above
before you automatically think the worst, or argue without thinking and slowly reading all of this, just consider that this is only to help the game, and make it better for the community so that we arent so alone, but that we are together.
1) killers can disable the ability to hear the survivors
2) survivors can disable the ability to hear other survivors if they want a harder experience or a break from people
3) Not everybody will have a mic, so the lore behind it is that maybe the "entity" has punished that survivor for not being fearful of the "entity" and wants to make the fear them
4) this new change or a new change may take alot of time, unless the killers sacrifice content in some shape or form

Let's see if Last Year has good numbers after 2 months. They currently have an all-time peak of 1,084 players.
It's still too early to tell and I'm not dropping $20 on this game with how the devs have acted in the past.

I checked between LY and DBD before I decide which one I was going to buy. And the result is here I am staying in this place making this comment.
LY graphic is really attractive and seems more Objectives. But I dont see any thing horror in it. I feel like its like a shooting game where Kids build weapons from scraps and able to fight back Killer, to the point Killer just instant die on the spot. At the opposite Killer just random spawn from no where makes the game is like close quarter combat.
DBD however, with Flash light & Pallets (are annoying), but can not harm Killer by any mean. Being the last man stand at the gate opening it while heart beat starts getting bigger, honestly my heart beat just beat the same as the game heart beat at those moment.
Survivor means to Survive, you make one mistake, you die. A mad man with a butler knife walks into your house and I dont think you're brave enough to fight back because you will SPAWN after death. Nope, you hide, praying Killer not able to find you, because once you die, its over.
But Im not deny DBD has many flaw in design, if they actually work on DBD2 with everything they're already have as the resource (to save time and manpower), fix the game mechanic to improve the game's problems (gen rush, tunnel, facecamp). After those, Im sure no unsymmetrical horror game and pass DBD

Not happening. Most of the big DBD streamers are not giving Last Year a chance which is what the game needed, a big following on twitch.
Marth seems to be the only streamer to leave DBD for Last Year but he's been negative about DBD for a long time.. He'll be back to DBD before it's over

I feel like I've heard this before.

You know what, me too!

DBD and Last Year are very different games because they play very differently. The only reason anyone is comparing them is they're both asymmetrical horror games with the basic setup of one killer versus a team of survivors, who have to escape or get killed. In some ways, Last Year has more in common with Deathgarden than it does with Dead by Daylight.
If I understand you correctly, you're essentially proposing two new features for DBD, inspired by their inclusion in Last Year: in-game voice chat, and the ability to "respawn" or at least continue to be a part of the match after death.
I'd just like to point out, firstly, that killers who want the game to be less challenging are not the only ones who aren't in favour of in-game voicecoms. In fact, I would go so far as to say that most of those who are opposed to it feel that way because of reasons related to how such a feature would affect survivor gameplay.
As for respawning, in my opinion a feature like that would change the game at a foundational level and throw off the balance completely, almost to the point of being unrecognisable.
It sounds like what you're really saying is you want DBD not to be a better version of itself but to be a different game from what it is. If you want Dead by Daylight to be more like Last Year, my question to you, with all due respect, is why not just play Last Year instead, since you seem to prefer its gameplay anyway?

Last Year, and Dead by Daylight began development at around the same time.
Last year is just now playable.
Last year is just a DbD clone that decided instead of pallets the survivors can fight back.
Last year replacing DbD? = LOL

Your smoking some funny #########, DBD on PC alone has 15K average players. Last year only has 500 peak times and its only for PC.
And last time i checked Last Year killers are OP AF no counterplay OP like Old Nurse. no one wants to play that.

If it gets good publicity, content, supportive devs, and cross play, I could see it being a threat for DBD. Honestly when it comes to PS4 I’m definitely going to try it out and play it but that’s just me. Remember F13th? The game was really popular and had a good fan base, was it perfect? Nope, but neither is dbd. F13th really hurt dbd and could’ve been “the dbd killer” but who knows. If it never had the lawsuit problem it probably would’ve overtook dbd and been in the top spot.
Anyways remember, this is a new chapter for the game and it’s going to get attention, don’t jump to conclusions. It could die out in a couple weeks.

because i love DBD, and i dont want to just leave it because i feel like im not alone in Last Year

It's peaked at over 1000, actually.
And you should check again. Killers stomp bad survivors, but coordinated Survivor teams will destroy killers more often than not (Hmm, why does that sound familiar...)
As for the OP... yeah, no. Just because LY has voice comms doesn't mean that has any place in DBD. DBD doesn't need to be copying an infant challenger in the arena it's dominated for three years.
Err, as far as game design, that is. Graphics and cosmetics-wise, they should definitely take notes.

Fair enough, but if you love DBD for what it is, I don't understand why you'd want it to be changed so drastically to the point where it's almost a different game.

Last year needs a big licence soon to bring new players. Like how dbd got myers.

Last Year is less of a horror game, and more of an action game. It's like a hybrid between tf2 and dbd.

Deathgarden:
1hook -> instant executions -> executions +optional respawn -> mandatory respawn -> game canceled.
Just a coincidence, i guess. Anyways snark aside....
Dead by daylights killers are way way way too weak to support survivor respawn nor are the rules suited for it. If anything, the hooks kinda already are timeout rooms.

Do you count Monto? Cuz he's been playing both and keeps saying that he loves Last Year. Though he did say at one point that he wished in-game voice chat wasn't in it.

I've been watching Marth play LY and I hope that game gets a little traction for him and others that aren't happy with DBD's direction. It's not healthy to keep playing a game you're unhappy with. At the same time some of his criticisms were fair. I just don't think his idea of balance is on line with BHVR's.
So far, he's happy with LY and I think this is a good chance for everyone to see if the balance in LY is what can help make their game more popular. Right now, they seemingly want to balance around top-tier play. I'm curious to see how that works out.

Everytime an asymmetrical horror game comes out everyone always says "DBD is gonna die because of this!"
How many have we seen come through? Dbd is still the most fun and successful out of any. I'm not worried about DBD losing to any new games soon.

I highly doubt it my friend. This is the same dev team that just left their game for a year, also a discord exclusive lol, i mean who even does that.
0 -
it was released on steam.......
0 -
It was exclusive to the Discord Store for a good year when it first came out. It was only re-released on Steam very recently.
0 -
I know, but originally it was a Discord exclusive.

It needs to come on console in order to expand it"s playerbase.
But my opinion is that F13 rules over all, and always has.

Dbd players always complain about the game but play it a lot. Even when they leave the game, the are back a little bit later.
Last years problem is they are trying to get some of the dbd fan base to go to their game. After a month the dbd players will be back to playing dbd.

I feel like rank reset didn't affect me because i was rank 4 and only got push back to rank 5 anyone else got this probably

One thing Last Year has on DbD is it will have free chapters if they are not licensed. You update your game and get brand new content at no cost of grinding or spending money. Also it’s just... more fun. Idk about you but having abilities and working as a team to complete multiple different objectives sounds way better than every single game. Do 5 gens... leave.
Also it has dynamic environments and has more options for strategies beyond just looping and holding m1.
But right now it’s basically in a paid beta stage so we will see what it is like in a month or 2. Given it has had 4 updates in 1 week I am hopeful.
