The Hatred.
Or another cry-thread about Hex Ruin.
Why I have to gen tap to avoid skill checks during these 3 seconds and hurt my Lightbringer emblem for doing it right?
Why I have to mindlessly check any Totem spot and hope, HOPE I'll find it as quick as possible (this is a problem of all Hex totems and Hex mechanics, totems are stupidly RNG based)
Why I don't have Bloodpoints? Why Hex Ruin skill checks steal my Bloodpoints? I can waste more than 100 seconds to repair one gen and get something like 1400 BP. This is pathetic.
Why this Perk cannot just reduce repair speed?
Yeah, I am crying, but this perk is boundlessly annoying, for everyone.
For Killers having 3 perks bcs Totem Spot system is great and it may appear in completely open space (yeah, I am talking about Disturbed Ward), or Survivors spawns in few metets from the totem..
For Survivors for feeling helpless bcs they checked numerous spawns, but they were out of LUCK. Or they simply cannot hit it bcs skill checks aren't based on your game expirience, it is something you cannot control, you HOPE you'll hit this successfuly.
Hex Ruin is the most awful Killer perk for Survivors, like DS was (is?). Everyone hates it, everyone hates the disgusting RNG based totem system.
@Peanits please tell, do you have some possible decisions for this problem?

Ruin is pretty unhealthy but too many players use it in every one of their builds for it to just vanish. I think giving bp from ruin skill checks would be a good fix atm.

You do know ruin doesn't prevent you doing gens right?
You do know that hitting space is not hard right?
By searching the map for ruin, you are doing exactly what the killer wants instead of just powering through it and making it useless...

It will not solve the whole problem.

Skill checks are absolutely an experience thing I can very consistently hit great skills checks with ruin up so can most high rank survivors.
Totem spawns are terrible ask any killer what their AVERAGE use they get out of ruin or any hex totem is for that matter and the majority will probably tell you something under a minute.
Gen tapping is another solution you already mentioned to deal with ruin, so now not only can you negate it by being good at hitting your skill checks you can simply just keep gen tapping.
Let's add on to the fact that skill checks are completely random and I've had gens go with zero skill checks happening. So if it's happened for me I know it's happened for other people. Ruin and any other hex perk for that matter is a much bigger gamble for the killer than the affect that it gives against survivors. Which is sad considering the state of gen completions in this game

You wouldn't see it near as often if killers didn't HAVE to run it. As it stands, you can lose in under 6 minutes if you get the right set of survivors.

I agree I was just suggesting a quick fix as a placeholder before it gets reworked. Something like faster gen regression would be nice and even synergize with other killer perks.

Thanks for not being biased

It's a really badly designed perk.
Punishes and frustrates new players and has little effect on experienced ones.
They need to add a slow down mechanic for early game like finding tools and completely rework Ruin into something else.
4 -
You mentioned that.
RNG, this is the most annoying aspect of all Hex Perks.
As I said, it is also annoying for Killers. Playing with 3 perks, Ruin stands but Survivors ignore it completely and repair all gens in a short time.
Its probably the most unreliable and unstable perk in the game, I don't think it should remain in the game as it is.

Adjust gen times accordingly to rank, gg.
0 -
Give people more incentive to quit the game, nice.
0 -
Well that is something we do agree on. Ruin in its current state is a terrible perk, I've had this similar discussion a few times. Hex perks I'm general in the current state of the game are just unreliable.
0 -
Gen time shouldn't be bigger than now, its already extremely boring to do gens alone.
And I am not speaking about slow down Plague build...
0 -
Quit? Why?
0 -
They get good, get emblems, rank up, game gets impossible. What else can they do but quit? The game has no incentive to rank up as is and you want to add counter incentive to rank up.
0 -
I mentioned this, its terrible to mindlessly attempt to search all possible Ruin spots..
1 -
Not a good idea, the idea of increasing gen times regardless of the method is not something much of the community killer or survivor are for. Doing gens is boring.
Hell I put up an idea that would have helped mitigate the gen rush a little bit(not a lot) and even put a skill aspect into it and people were STILL against it even though it literally didn't increase the time of doing gens. So any direct just straight up time increase is never going to fly with the community

Most people would just derank to have easier games... I don't think this is the right solution.

And in conclusion, Ruin is actually a bad perk and you're better off synergizing your build and getting more value from consistent perks that works for your Killer.
Game has evolved, ruin's been in it for 2+ years now. Change the totem spawns? We'll memorize them each and each patch and just find them. Totems still up? High rank survivors can hit Ruin skillchecks anyway. All Ruin is, is annoying for both sides.
0 -
Pretty much, I very rarely ever run hex perks they are just too bad I'd rather run thanata and dying light over ruin. At least that way I have some consistency with my gen slow down. Put on a sloppy butcher and nurses or pop at least now you get some good delay. Even if you have to work into it. Could maybe put surge or CI in there instead of pop too.

Do you even play killer? Do you know how difficult it is to win against SWF or even very good solos at red ranks while using a low tier killer? DS is also really annoying so it should be nerfed, too right?
As for the topic, something needs to be done about gen times or maps first before touching ruin. I don't like 5 min games when I play clown bubba legion wraith etc
In the meantime GIT GUD and hit greats or find the totem.

Gen times are fine lmao. Slowing down gens isn't gonna fix low tier killers or unbalanced maps, it's just gonna reduce the player base a lot.

I play both sides, but prefer killers.
You'll not believ, but you don't have to run such a nasty perk to have good games.

Here's what I'd to balance the game:
- Update Ruin.
Ruin
You will do whatever it takes to ruin the survivors odds of survival.
Ruin starts the Trial activate for 120 seconds.
Ruin has the following impacts towards generators:
- Good skill checks cause 5% regression.
- Great skill checks grant 0% bonus progression.
While not in a chase, the activation timer remains paused. Once the activation timer ends, Ruin will permanently deactivate for the remainder of the Trial.
- Add second objectives.
Once the generators are completed, survivors must power 2 out of 3 fuse boxes to direct power towards the Exit Gates.

The only thing I find weird with ruin is that it denies the 50 bloodpoints for good skill checks. It makes no difference to the killer whether survivors get these points or not, so it seems quite unnecessary

my 2 cents, that ruin is RNG based, that it is a Totem you can find, is just about the only reason its not 100% just a mandatory perk, if it would just slow down gens and nothing can be done about it from a survivor side, it would (depending on the strength) probably outweigh any other perks that increase speed somehow like Brutal Strength or Enduring etc
0 -
You dont have to, no, but the difference it makes often is insane, its night and day.
To me, absolutely game changing perks are NoeD, Ruin and often Nurses Calling, and on the survivor side, Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike and Adrenaline (especially with an SWF team)

Baby survivor complaining about a perk that can be gone in 30 seconds, or ignored entirely with great skill checks. Nice.
0 -
Get good. Ruin needs buffs. Massive buffs. Titem spawn locations are broken and ridiculous and need to be hell of a lot better. When I play survivor frequently I spawn smack bang next to some form of hex.
0 -
Of course you do. You wouldn't mind uploading 5-10 screenshots of this happening would you?
0 -
What about good rank rewards in the same update?
0 -
Now you're thinking dev style. It's okay to nerf Legion as long as his old nerfs get reverted lmao.
0 -
Honestly, legion feels a bit better than before the changes rn.
Anyway, how about this one:
Brown: 60s gen time, no rank reward
Yellow: 70s gen time, x BP and x shards at rank reset
Green: 80s gen time, x BP and x shards at rank reset
Purple: 90s gèn time, x BP, x shards and x aurics at rank reset
Red: 100s gèn time, x BP, x shards and x aurics at rank reset
Would solve the ruin problem at lower ranks too and sounds not that bad na?

Eh at least killers will stop complaining
0 -
Or you could practice hitting the greats and depending on how often you hit them it's actually more BP because 150 per great skillcheck.
I always have a love/hate relationship with it. Especially as killer, when survivors can still spawn on ruin, corrupt might be a better choice for any killer that sets up and pop might be better for more aggressive killers.

Strike Ruin down and take its place at my side -Corrupt Intervention
0 -
You're complaining that you have to do other things because you can't hit a skill check...just practice and get better at hitting skill checks...
0 -
Ruin isn't overpowered. As many have mentioned, you can IGNORE it by hitting great skill checks. Just stop. It doesn't rob you of blood points. It doesn't rob you of your lightbringer score, it doesn't make the game terribly too hard. It's because you're afraid of doing skill checks. I was when I first started. I HATED ruin when I was a baby survivor, now that I have experience, it's not so bad. Honestly, just practice. That's all you can really do. Practice. That's why it gets obliterated in red ranks because they are so used to it. The reason why killers use it is because it's one of the few perks that helps with how ridiculous the survivor's objectives are. I would love love LOVE secondary objectives, but the hallowed blight event and the new year event showed, no one is ready for it.

When it happens next time I will

I could say the same for a killer that needs Hex:Ruin to come close to winning a game. It's a crutch perk that isn't even needed. People just can't improve their skill and rely way too much on it. *Shrugs*
