Please do something about the matchmaking system. I am begging you.

I honestly want to know why it is the system keeps putting me in matches like this?

I would love to say this is an isolated incident but no, I keep ending up in matches that are, in my opinion why above what I should be. This isn't fun and makes it extremely difficult to do any killer challenges in the game.

I think the Devs talked about matchmaking in the latest Developer Update Stream. I don’t know if you watch them but if I remember correctly it’s the fact that it doesn’t tell you that they are SWF so it’s kinda misleading and the current system works by starting at your rank color and expanding search by a color over time and continues to do so until match is found. (At least that’s how I remember the stream so I might be wrong). They did also say that it would sometimes bug.

All in all, definitely needs to be reworked and fixed.

Adding my two cents to this. The two screenshots are NOT one-offs. This happens in a majority of games for me as killer. Devs, this is a serious problem and has been going on for some time now. Neither of the above are acceptable. This makes the game almost impossible to play - a 17 stands no chance against either of those teams of survivors. I cannot express exactly how frustrating it is to lose rare items and de-rank because of this.

This, along with the many bugs posted on this forum and the Steam forums really need addressing. It's no wonder people are complaining about rage quitters.

Personally, I would rather have a longer wait (it's the best part of 10 minutes as killer as it is, and much shorter as survivor) and a better match, than a short wait and an inappropriate match. Until the matchmaking is fixed, you could give people a choice - put up a message in the game "sorry, not enough survivors of your rank available, do you want to wait or search other higher/lower rank groups?"

This needs fixing before the game suffers losing players, resulting in worse matchmaking and more rage quitting.

    Dear Devs,

Here are two of tonight's matchmaking failures.

So far tonight, out of the probably ten or so games I've played, a majority have been something like this, or have included players whose rank should have excluded them from being in the same match as me.

So far tonight, some of the higher ranks have been understanding. Others have found it funny. Some have been outright toxic, with the usual "weak killer" / "learn to play" BS. (These are more than often purple ranks - reds tend to be pretty civil). Of the players who have stuck around to chat, there is pretty much universal agreement that matchmaking is broken. I have had higher ranks express disappointment that the game screwed up yet again and they ended up playing against someone of my low rank when they shouldn't be.

DEVS: THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE TURNING YOUR GAME INTO:

    • It's more toxic than before (if that was even possible).
    • It's more off-putting, disappointing and frustrating than before. Who wants to play a game when you know you more than likely won't get be set up fairly? When they know there's a chance that as a killer, they might face teams set up like the screenshots in this thread, or as a survivor, they might be canon fodder for a high ranking killer?
    • It's buggier than ever - as I said in my previous post, there are many threads in this and the Steam forums detailing the many bugs. I've found a fair share of my own.

You know what really doesn't help? The near silence we get from you. I know and appreciate that you have the Twitter feed and the live steams. Not everyone has time to watch the live streams, and without Peanits' dedication to writing up the stream, that information would be lost.

A little PR and communication wouldn't be a bad idea. "Hey guys, we hear you, we understand that things aren't great right now. We are trying to make things better." Then in some kind of roadmap, detail HOW things will get better. "We'll be working on matchmaking first. Then the bugs in Wraith & Myers. Then the odd quirks in the maps". Etc. And in the meantime, how about some kind of sweetener? Others have suggested bloodpoint events, and while I would like to see that, just something small like a small BP bonus for each day you play, would do - something as a nod of acknowledgement that things aren't great.

Part of my job includes dealing with escalations from unhappy clients. I go out of my way to rectify the situation and try and come up with a solution that works for everyone involved. Communication is key to this - even if the news is bad, it needs to be delivered well. The technical teams I deal with aren't great at communication; they're hard core tech guys and do their jobs well; they're just not good at communication. But every now and then, even they need to come and talk to a client and try to make things right.

DbD used to be a great game. I hope it can be again.

Queue times are already pretty long. More improvement in matchmaking would result in longer queue times.

Also the devs did mention this in the stream and what they said was that, They changed it to where it will start searching for your own color first and then expand to other colors (which Hex_GGEZ mentioned) But ALSO mentioned it would take 2-3 months for the matchmaking to properly work with the introduction of the new rank system.

So give it 1-2 more months ^^

@McVecetti - Thanks for mentioning the stream. Please see my suggestion in my previous post. If a colour match is not possible within a reasonable time, then an option to search either ranks above or below could be offered. That way it's the player's option whether they want to go up against someone who could be better than them.

As for waiting a couple more months, I might honestly just give up the game until it's properly fixed. It can be so damn frustrating as it is, and the levels of toxicity don't make it a great place to play.
