Testing Theory on Ruin & Killers
So, I saw a thread about Killers not being viable without Ruin or somewhere along those lines.
decided to test this.
—————— RANK 7 KILLER
Killers I played as:
Hag (4K) , Spirit (3k), Trapper(4K),
Trapper(NoK😭)
Best game:
Trapper (4K)
Perks: NoED, Agitation, UP, SB
Survivors: Toolbox, Flashlight, Map, Key
Map: Hawkins
Summary: They knocked out 2 gens as I was setting traps around pallets.
Downed one, hooked in basement. They rushed the save, injured the key holder and map holder, downed the previous hooked for bodyblocking. Chased the keyholder. Downed. Hooked 2 in basement. Went after the survivor working on gens. One survivor died on hook. Key holder tried to loop me around a pallet, stepped on trap. Downed. Mapholder tried to bait me, stepped on trap placed by downed key holder. Downed. I slugged both, yeah hate me 🤷🏽♂️ Spotted the 4th survivor hiding by a pallet, pushed them to the pallet. Bam trapped. Downed. Got the win.
End Game: Ranks 2-5
——————
Worst Game:
Trapper (4K)
Perks: NoED, Agitation, UP, SB
Survivors: Flashlight, Flashlight, Toolbox, Toolbox
Map: Badham
Summary: Traps sabotaged, gens rushed, strong loopers, body blockers, DS, DH, BT, pro-flashers, and then adrenaline. Yes, I was tormented by 4-man SWF.
End Game: Ranks 1.

Q: would I recommend this play-style?
A: Definitely, it’s a challenge to not rely on Ruin. You waste less time worrying about the totem being destroyed and you become better at map pressure.
Q: Was it difficult?
A. Hell yeah it was. It was fun against non-SWF sweats, but miserable against them.
Q: Are killers viable without Ruin?
A: Yep
——————
I’m going to attempt this on all my Killers now. I usually rotate each game anyways. It was fun, challenging, overall gave me one less object to worry about in game and more focusing on eliminating survivors. It does cause a panic when you constantly hear gens being finished, but, throw in NoED and you’ll get at least 2ks against a decent team I’d say.

You used NOED? I would think Iron grasp would be better on Trapper.
0 -
Well, I needed the Agitation challenge, I’m finally getting around to. I used NoED as a safety net to at least get 1k in the instance I got none before EGC.
0 -
Btw, what's UP? And how does SB help trapper?
0 -
UP - Unnerving Presence
SB - Sloppy Butcher which is ok on any m1 killer.
1 -
What Twisted said.
SB helps me with tracking them if I lose them.

Oh I thought he meant Shadowborn I'm so dumb.

Ruin is a bandaid fix for gen speeds. Killers can often win if played optimally; meaning they run solid builds to complement their power and halt gen progression, end chases quickly, and kill someone quickly. You ran noed every game, though, which can allow any killer to win regardless of their skill or time management.
Also, when you included the ranks, were those referring to the ranks of your opponents or the ranks you reached? Because it is impossible to reach rank 1 from rank 7 after just 4 games.
3 -
Haha all good man! I should’ve specified.
0 -
I only ran NoED on Trapper as those games were back-to-back and I didn’t change builds.
Those are survivor ranks.
I did not use NoED on the other two killers. Also, I’ve had my NoED destroyed instantly more times than I’ve got to use it lol.

Well UP doesn't do much against high ranks. Do you have STBFL on Trapper? It's a pretty strong perk although not that useful on Trapper compared to other killers it can still have more impact than UP. Especially since you're using UP with normal TR.
0 -
So, I honestly just threw UP on there because I rarely play Trapper. I barely have any perks on him.
0 -
Well if you're trying to be an effective killer but have few perks Whispers can be helpful even if it's only tier 2.
0 -
I’m not a fan of whispers. I used to main Feng when first starting and became to reliant on Aura perks. It caused me to avoid the killer, thus, was terrible at looping when I got to red rank.

NOED?
I don't use either?
NOED doesn't make the anti ruin theory sound too pretty, as NOED is a easy win.
1 -
Not really sure how you consider NoED an easy win. It’s a Hex Totem that can be destroyed. At best, you get a kill. Against an optimal team, NoED can become useless. Also, read again. I only used NoED on Trapper and didn’t even need it. It was more of a last resort if I didn’t get a kill during the game and as you can see, my No Kill match it didn’t even help. DS murdered me.

Without ruin it's deffinitivly possible but you really need to play your A game, the first chase becomes so important without ruin
Can't wait to hear how your other killers go
That summanry was quite fun to read

Thanks!
I think my Hag game was by far the most fun. It was on Backwater Swamp.
My Devour Hope totem was the center of attraction, I had 2 survivors dead because they focused on it. It was difficult to focus on all the gens because they spread them out so well and I wasn’t able to teleport to my traps optimally, except in chases which is fun to catch survivors off guard. I managed to kill the last 2 right before they opened the exit gate. I downed one and teleported to my trap that was triggered as he opened the gate.
Spirit was pretty difficult. It was on Backwater also and the only reason I got a 3k was because I camped, yup 🙄, the ONLY survivor I managed to get before EGC when all gens were finished. One came up injured for an unhook? Why! Lmao. Downed them. Then I heard someone below me and went after them, phasing is great. Injured them, they ran so I went back and checked the hooked person, picked up the downed, hooked them. The injured dude CAME BACK 😭 I downed him and hooked. Pushed the 4th out so he didn’t get brave on a rescue.

I'm aware, but consider this.
Survivors don't do totems so NOED is mega good right now.
You get to be a 4% faster and you are a instant down Killer,
Ruin makes it slow you slow down gens, NOED is to compensate for getting to endgame or closing hatch and finishing the game off quick, no power or skill needed.
0 -
Skill is definitely needed for NoED. You still have to catch survivors before they escape.
Also, I’ve played in 2 games where NoED never activated because all totems were destroyed. Red rank survivors definitely play optimally when they notice no Ruin. My team automatically assumes NoED and we destroy every non-lit totem we come across.

I really want to play hag, i should level her and get some perks
1 -
I mean being a 119% Killer with instant down AND can trap exit gates is a little bit easy to win.
1 -
I think she’s underrated, she’s definitely one of my favorite to play!
0 -
IF you manage to trap the exit gates. The luck is you get them close together or they’re spread out. Traps can be sabotaged and regardless of the notification, if gates are spread out, survivors are escaping.
im not making excuses for NoED and this isn’t a post to argue on. I was sharing my experience as a no-Ruin killer despite “using” NoED even though I never “used” it.

Yes I agree, most gates do spawn on the same connected corresponding walls, I've saved Play with Your Food stacks to defend and protect the gates from the last person, that's why I say NOED is a easy win, having extra movement speed only ensures that Survivor is dead.
0 -
Ah not much just reading the forums, you?
3 -
This made my day 🤣
1 -
I feel like noed is just reverse ruin. Use ruin to slow the game down in the beginning so they don't finish gens quickly. Don't use ruin so use noed because you know damn well the gens will be done in 4 minutes so you need a way to get them quickly once that happens.

StOp UsInG NoEd TrASh
0 -
Why use noed? when you can use devour hope or STBFL to snowball.
1 -
He has very little to work with
1 -
Playing solo survivor at red ranks, games without ruin go by much faster than with it.
1 -
Personally I use ruin (green ranks) as sort of a decoy while also running DH(easily my favorite perk). It's certainly possible to play without it, but... Ehhh? Most survivors run the same few perks to do well. Who cares if killers do?
0 -
I run small game on most of my builds, noed does not activate in most matches I'm in because i make sure to break all the bones.
0 -
My problem with Devour Hope is that it’s highlighted immediately. There definitely needs to be an activation delay because it defeats the purpose. Especially when the majority of my games my totems are just right there in the middle of nothing for survivors to see.
0 -
It wasn’t about running the same few perks lol. I was just saying it’s still possible to beat survivors both good and bad without it. And this was about challenging myself and trying to enjoy the game instead of just wanting to kill everyone in a tryhard way.
0 -
Should've done multiple times on the same rank, using same perks, same killer several times before switching.
That may seem painstaking and long, but you got to have more than the best game.
0 -
Is this directed towards me? If so, I try to avoid playing the same killer each game. That just bores me. Truth be told.
0 -
As I said, it may be painstaking but it gives the most accurate information.
And for the record, I do play the same killer each game. Pigy nombr une

The main reason ruin is so good is because it's one of two perks that slow gens and apply pressure on survivors at the start of the game. The other one is Corrupt Intervention, which is also a very strong perk (and one that I like using much more). Running neither will probably net you a 2k at best if you're a low teir killer facing the best survivor team, and I'm not sure if that counts as being "viable".
I play Ruinless Legion a lot at red ranks, and if I ever chase someone for a little too long or make a couple mistakes, I easily lose or tie the game. Ruin or CI would make my games much easier (unless ruin gets popped instantly), but I have more fun running other builds.

The highlight can be avoided if you play it right. You need to get yourself into a position with two people downed in close succession when you're at 2 stacks. Even then. It's a MASSIVE amount of pressure off your shoulders when you hit someone at 3 stacks. Either people ignore it and die, or everyone stops doing gens and find your totem. Either way it gets you an instant down and a minute or two of breathing room.

Another W for the Trapper against a set of Reds. Played on Coldwind. Was rather difficult but thanks to the dark map, trap trap trap. Killed 3 then finished off the 4th while she searched for the hatch. I thought I was never going to kill any of them lmao
0 -
Dark maps are so fun for trapper, you can get really creative with your traps then
0 -
Never realized how good Trapper is when played optimally. He’s actually pretty fun, but you can really end up focusing a lot on trapping.
0 -
Yeah he's great
Hearing that sound of a snapping beartrap followed with a scream is so sattisfying
A shame his traps work so wonky with the emblem system though
0 -
Lol you just said noed requires skill. #########
