Why Pennywise ?

I'm completed confused after months of people asking for a IT chapter, why do everyone want Pennywise in the game ? I get that he's some sort of slasher villain, and that he's a big horror shot but...

We already have a Clown ? (*coughs in the distance*) So wouldnt it be like a little redundant to have 2 chapters around killer clowns ?

Or maybe I just havent seen the movies and you guys all already know what his power would be ? I'm genuinely curious because, I dont mind him but I also dont get why people want him when we (*unfortunately*) already have a Clown ?

Late edit : Thanks I watched the movies, no need to Ctrl+C Ctrl+V for the tenth time the Wikipedia page about him not being a killer clown but a shape shifting entity from [Insert the whole biography of Pennywise]

Well without trying to not spoil stuff from the second movie, one might take a look at the ending again and then we know why it wouldn't work. The Entities trial and playground would be IT's downfall. It would probably end up the same way it happened in the movie. Of course there is the off-chance the two entities may work out a way to work together and the entity would help IT as sort of a symbiosis, but how likely would that be?

i dont think coherence is the key word to add killers lmao

but ok, i guess if they care about the lore they would have to tweak it

Pennywise is the one killer who can basically be anything. Alot more than just a slasher clown. In fact he eats people(specifically children), never seen him stab someone. The more I think about it the more I am curious of how exactly it would work.

Every time someone says "Why do we need Pennywise, we already have a clown?!?!" I die a little inside. But if you haven't seen the movies and dont know who Pennywise is it actually makes sense.

Pennywise is a shape shifting powerful demon that prefers taking the form of a clown to ######### with people....Clown is an obese serial killer with a finger fetish. Other than wearing clown makeup and killing people they have literally nothing in common and honestly the new Pennywise is more of a clownish demon than an actual clown.

Crazy how many non horror fans like this game

We have 2 chainsaws. Irrelevant counter argument.

    thanks i know that

im talking about : design concepts. not powers or personality whatever

also thanks for randomly insulting people who dont watch horror movies ? does it give you the impression to have a superior opinion ?

like i said earlier, i acknowledge that it's weird that there are two chainsaw killers

but Pennywise wouldnt either really fit in the Entity's realm ?

I wouldnt mind him either but i just think he wouldnt fit in terms of concept and design

but again, if he ends up in the game i'll still buy him.

Concept and design? All they have to do is have something to slash survivors with.

No I was talking about : something that fits the dbd universe

maybe im wrong but i cant see Pennywise fitting in this universe.

It wouldn't make much sense either since Pennywise is basically a god, like the entity is. Like how would that work? I doube one god is gonna want to take orders from another.

You might want to check that. That wasn't an insult. They said that it is crazy how many non-horror fans like the game. That is a simple observation. They did NOT say that non-horror fans are crazy, or anything else insulting.

Because a name like Pennywise will bring more people to the game, and more people equals more money and quicker lobbies.

And when has DBD ever cared about fitting the killers lore to match their movie references? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they take certain liberties that provide a unique take on the characters, so why would this be any different?

And I would so look forward to a special IT map and to see what they do with the Mori!

If we get an IT chapter I want old Pennywise with his wisecracks and uncomfortable hilarity but I know that'd never happen because remakes are all the rage these days. It's unfortunate to know if we ever got Chucky he'd be an animatronic doll that had absolutely nothing to do with the original story of Charles Lee Ray, which was the entire story of Child's Play honestly. Sad to know we'd get a killer from a ripoff that had no idea what it was trying to imitate.

I'm pretty sure he'd eat your arm off. Possibly have him hiding in some shadows, your arm gets ripped off and then you're dragged into the shadows as well. Michael's mori is surprisingly similar to what he does to Laurie in Resurrection(If you haven't watched Resurrection I advise against it though. It's good up until Laurie dies, which is basically the beginning).

Lore wise, there would be conflict if they were to bring Pennywise into the game as a killer seeing as IT is literally, like, an entity itself (and of course it's easier when considering survivors, I assume Stan and Eddie are likely options if we were to have an IT chapter because the Entity would take either of them before dying a la Bill, Tapp, The Pig etc). Although it would be interesting to see how they do it if they were to.

And personally, I wouldn't be too fazed by the fact that he would also have the appearance of a clown, mostly because he would look a lot different from The Clown (in both mini series and movie iterations). As for his power, well, that would definitely differ from The Clown's as well considering what IT does, but who knows what that could be.

Honestly, I'm kind of neutral about the whole thing anyway. Would it be cool to have an IT chapter? Yeah, I'm a horror fan and the films were my hyperfixation during October/November so of course it'd be cool. Would it be cool if there wasn't? Yeah, I really enjoy seeing original killers and survivors in the game (and I prefer it a little more over licensed characters to be fair).

Honestly I dont see how they could put Chucky in the game without making drastic changes to his design, they should create their own chucky killer for that

And, well actually, getting the rights to the old Pennywise would be pretty easy compared to asking for the new Pennywise rights

  • Atrushan88
    Atrushan88 Member Posts: 2,092

They could. It just takes some creativity. I've actually thought of a few ideas for how they could add Chucky. For example, being able to walk under pallets but unable to vault windows. The only issue is carrying survivors to the hook but he could drag them. Perhaps give the hooks a drawstring that he can jump up and pull down to hook survivors. Sure it might take some different animations but Chucky's worth it.

  • Kagari_Leha
    Kagari_Leha Member Posts: 555

mmh yeaaaah ? he's kinda... too small x3

plus, not being able to vault windows is the worst thing in the world sorry xD Imagine having to kill in Lery's

You know the problem with Pennywise? None of the survivors saw him as kids. This means that he would be unable to harm them. Pennywise would also be a boring chapter that would probably be a sort of reskinned Freddy.

In what way is IT a slasher film?

It doesn't matter what you think. MCote himself stated in the last Reddit AMA that Pennywise (and Jason) had an open invitation to the game. He also thought Chucky would make a fun killer but said he's not on their list of licensed killers they want right now. The devs want Pennywise in their game and so do a large chunk of the player base.

Not every licensed killer has to appeal to you personally. As a horror fan I say bring on the crossovers. They're fun.

  • PapiQuentin_
    PapiQuentin_ Member Posts: 889

People would suggest Jason and say "No hE'S tOo SimIlAr to TraPpEr"

2 Clowns are fine. We have 2 chainsaws that work in 2 completely different ways

  • Kagari_Leha
    Kagari_Leha Member Posts: 555

i never said IT was a slasher, I said Pennywise was a slasher type character. If he's not, then Freddy isnt neither.

    calm down.

  • Kagari_Leha
    Kagari_Leha Member Posts: 555

You dont have to be rude, I think forums are made to "discuss" not to say "shut up".

And I never said he wasnt an appealing character, all you guys did one by one is crying about the fact that I dont personally think he's the best choice for the game. You guys didnt even try to discuss.

I like the movies. I just think he's not the perfect choice for the game because of he's concept of looking like a clown, and that he's also not really lore logical to get him in there. I'm not against the character, I'm just not interested in having him in the game.

But sure, let's do a Last Year rip off and make Pennywise use his power to become a spider-monster, i wouldnt be against it at all.

  • Kagari_Leha
    Kagari_Leha Member Posts: 555

Well that's stupid, Jason never used any trap.

But hey, Jason will never get into DbD, it's sad, because hey, he's kind of the last killer of the Golden age of Slashers to not be in the game. (if im forgetting someone my bad)

And yes, I know, you're the fourth one to say that, and I agree.

That would be hilarious, imagine, a killer that cant hurt the survivors unless they are the survivors from the dlc

but I dont see why it would be a re-skin of Freddy ?

I wasn't being rude @Kagari_Leha. I was trying to say that not every crossover is meant to appeal to you personally. The whole point of the crossovers is to bring into the game NEW players and get attention in the wider media. Especially the horror related media/fan cultures outside of gaming.

I personally am not a fan of the Saw series and consider most of the films to be mediocre torture porn. That doesn't mean Dead by Daylight should remove the Saw stuff. It's not meant for me. Saw fans can enjoy playing as Amanda while I enjoy playing as Nancy and Freddy.

Everyone gets to be happy! ☺️ Let's all just embrace the fact we're playing a game that has the likes of Laurie Strode, Freddy Kruger, and Ash Williams in it with many more characters to come.

I for one can't wait until an Xenomorph and Ripley get added. Chucky too!

    Makes sense makes sense

tho i'll say, yes, it would be a right move from BHVR to get Pennywise's rights, as the remakes were a huge success.

And why hating Amanda she's the cutest killer D:< jk, play who you want have fun

I actually love playing as Amanda, my opinion of her movie franchise notwithstanding.

I enjoy her play style and design.

And none of them are original right ? It's not like they designed one of them

I can take the Billy/Bubba arguement but that one is far-fetched

  • Dwight_Fairfield
    Dwight_Fairfield Member Posts: 7,096

Far fetched in what way? What difference does it make if they designed them or they are licensed? The end result is still the same. You have two pairs of similar killers. And it doesn't hurt the game at all.

You keep saying about how you know theres 2 chainsaw killers and you mean more about the lore of IT and dbd but you didnt mention ANY of that in your description. You are really the one at fault for still not editting and mentioning it.

You're thinking too in the box. He could be a 120% ms killer that couldn't vault windows but could walk under pallets(could still be stunned by them though). Also killers have maps they're stronger on and ones they're weaker on. Lery's is pretty much killer favored for most of the cast. It could be less so for him and honestly what killers actually vault windows in Lery's? Most killers avoid vaulting anyways aside from killer shack. The only one I can think of that would vault would be Legion. If he was 120% ms though he'd probably need 3 hits to be balanced because that's likely way too fast for 2 hits.

  • kid187em
    kid187em Member Posts: 102

Yes pennywise can kill adults, read the book. He's killed plenty of adults, he just prefers children because they scare easier and fear is like a seasoning for it. Plus part 2 the first kill was Adrian, the gay guy, who was an adult that never saw it as a child so....

  • Zanely89
    Zanely89 Member Posts: 134

I have no problem with whoever movie killer making it into the game. For lore wise, if there is a will, there is a way.

That being said, sometime people just overbearing with the killer they want and it become kind of annoying at time. Like, we *know* you want pennywise, Jason, jeepers creepers, Chucky, pinhead, candy man etc in the game, we *all* know it. Give it a rest, Dev heard you loud and clear, and they will work it out the licence if possible, no use constantly bring up the same topic over and over again.

I think the peak of this kind of discussion appears back when ghostface and demo were released, but people do move on and we are getting less discussion about pennywise now.

If you want details on why Pennywise should be in, check out the youtube channel for Wow such gaming. He did an analysis, power workup suggestion, and lore details. Top that with how he might work with the entity. He's done a few of these, including suggesting Chucky (Child's Play), and the father turned killer from The Shining.

Not a plug, I get nothing for this, the guy doesn't know I exist, and I could care less if people actually go to the channel or not.

    Pennywise

    Terminator

    Jeeper Creepers (first flying killer!)

    Alien and/or Predator

    Leprechaun and/or Chucky

    Candyman

And I even seen a Jaws suggestion.

I honestly would take all of these killers. I've seen Jaws and Alien preworks and they were both exciting.

He would have to do some weird dream thing or time travel that would make it to where he could get the survivors to see him when they are children. It would be some super boring and pointless chapter.

I don’t know. I guess it’s because people like the movie and/ or character. I honestly hope the licensing agreement doesn’t go through just so that people will shut up about it.

Sorry, Pennywise lovers, but that clown doesn’t fit in this realm. Pennywise is it’s OWN entity. He’s not a servant and never will be for another entity. It makes no sense.
