Is their a shift in the survivor meta?
Hello this is my first time posting a discussion.
I was just wondering if spinechill is becoming part of the survivor meta. I ask this because I’ve started noticing in both killer and survivor games.

I think it’s gone up due to there being the spine chill challenge in the archives. Since it’s one of the harder challenges (can’t even get hooked) it’s one people get stuck on and as a result more people wind up trying for it at the same time.

There are two main playstyles for survivor - stealth and aggressive looping. Most people tailor their build to one or the other, and there are certain perks which are considered top-tier for each playstyle. However, aggressive looping is generally considered the stronger of the two.
Spine Chill is undoubtedly part of the stealth meta, but it's not what one might call a "true" meta perk simply because stealth isn't meta. Perks like Borrowed Time, Dead Hard and Decisive Strike are considered stronger because they fit the meta playstyle of aggression and boldness. So you could say that Spine Chill is kind of like... B-tier meta.

I would argue that spinechill is not solely a stealth perk. Yes, it does notify you when the killer is close and allows you to sneak away. However, combined with resilience, aggressive loopers get 15% increased vault speed as well as increased skill checks in killers presence. As a rank 1 killer I can tell you high level survivors will be doing gens right in my face all the time.

Spine Chill has always been a top tier perk but few survivors know how to properly utilize it.
With the increase of Ghostfaces and Wraiths you are probably seeing Spine Chill more because it hard counters these killers.

That is true, and an excellent point. Still, I wouldn't call it meta just because it seems generally not to be considered on the same level as perks like Decisive Strike. Potentially it's one of those kind of in-between perks - top tier, and potentially underrated, but therefore not quite "full meta".

Yes with all the stealth killers becoming so popular, it’s sort a requirement. I never go without it now and it’s proven pretty valuable. The purple level is almost too strong as it shows killer is even remotely close.

I usually auto-include it not only to help against all the Ghost Faces, but it's just good in general. It tells you when the killer is coming your way, or when he abandons the chase.

The influx of GF and wraith players thanks to some streamers discussing them being high tier-ish had made a lot of players willing to give up one slot to have a heads up against the stealth killers.
I run it all day and face billy after Bubba after Demo and then one game I take it off I get Wraith lol

I wouldn’t call spine chill a perk for stealth solely, I use it to gain distance on the killer to start chases and because of it, stealth killers also actually need to chase me since I’ll have distance on them.

lol spinechill has been my personal meta for years. They cant fix hitboxes so they rebuffed it. Rip

Like DCash said, Vault-Speed! Resilience, Spine Chill, Iron Will & Adre-Rush is a common Build for most Aggresive Players.Oh and you can easily push gens against Stealth-Killer.

Yeah, as I mentioned above, it's true that it's not solely used for stealth. But as far as its value to the aggressive playstyle overall goes, it pales in comparison to "true meta" perks like Dead Hard, at least when it comes to the general player consciousness - which, after all, is the thing that defines the meta in the first place.

Aside from very minor things the survivor meta hasn't really changed in 3 years. The same perks that are so good that they cloud out all the others from even being considered if you're playing to win, the devs refuse to nerf in any significant way.
There might be slightly more spine chills but it isn't that significant.

Spine Chill is also extremly strong while looping, thats the reason most advanced people actually bring it.
Knowing when killer is mindgaming and also have the extra 6% on windows is really good in my opinion.
Topic: Not really a big change. Slowly but surely Selfcare seams to become less popular on red ranks, but thats about it. Oh yea and of course, Ballanced landing due to its nerf is pretty much gone now.

Second,great question. Yes for me. I personally use spine chill, and it is really helpful. Especially if the killer is a stealthy one (tier 1 Myers,ghostface,pig when crouched,ect)
Also lets you know if the killer stop chasing you. Really cool perk

Spine Chill III has no distance difference over Spine Chill I, so purple Spine Chill can't tell you the Killer is looking your way any earlier. It's not an aura read, so Open-Handed can't alter the distance either.
The only thing that changes is the speed percentage gain (2%/4%/6%) when the Killer is looking in your direction within 36 meters, but it's always 36m regardless of Spine Chill tier, offerings, add-ons, other perks, etc. There is no way to make it work with the Killer farther out.

You're the third person to mention that, but thank you, it's a good point. See my comments above regarding Spine Chill's usefulness as an aggressive perk.
