99-ing the gates isn’t always correct

Yea, I’m aware it’s a strategy ever since EGC came out, but the problem is people have seen it and now assume it’s correct to always 99 the gates when sometimes it’s best just to open them.

Sometimes a survivor, or yourself is being chased and literally can’t afford that half second to go out of your way and click the door.

Sometimes both gates are at 99 with two survivors at each so no one knows if they can actually leave and someone ends up dying because of it.

Really the only times 99 is very beneficial is if the killer runs BW, which was a fad right after EGC release but is almost never anymore. Or when someone is on the hook and you think it’ll take time to set up a rescue.

Am I way wrong, should I shut up, does anyone else just wanna open the door ASAP

I only 99 the doors if I stay by them. If I see a surv running towards me with the killer in tow, I open it right away so they can escape

Had a game recently against a Bubba on "the game". While on the hook, my 2 remaining teammates 99% each door. One of em got me off the hook, but I found myself chased by the Bubba immediately after and looping him right infront of the doors. Neither teammate showed up to actually help me and instead went out the OTHER door when I was finally caught.

I do suffer from the same problem in-game. 50% of the time, the 99% tech either kills the hooked person quicker or rewards the Killer with additional kills.

You should always 99 gates, it’s better if there’s a survivor near the exit to open it, as the last survivor arrives, probably chased by the killer.

if you open the gates, there’s not enough time to heal and organize a save.

This is the problem, ALWAYS or NEVER doing something without thinking of all situations. As you can see in just a few examples above people can die because of 99 gates.

Like I said in my OP, when someone is already in hook and you’re planning to organize a save that’s a good time to 99.

I agree that 99’ing isn’t always the correct call. Honestly, I feel it’s the wrong play more often then not. The only time you shouldn’t open a gate is if you suspect blood warden, outside of that the EGC gives more than enough time to escape. Also, if you’re not in a swf it lets the other survivors, especially one in a chase, know a gate is open.

Basically, I agree, just open the exit ASAP.

    I always open the doors

Evading the EGC like that is kinda lame imo

As long as someone stays at the Gate, it is fine. If people 99 it and then run away from the Gate, it can be quite a mistake.

The only reason you could die because gates were 99ed is if you're chased by the killer and you have to open the door, but if he catches you, he would have caught you anyways.

You’re set in your ways that’s clear, but as you can see above it’s not always that safe. Plus it’s not just the actual act of opening it, as solo survivor maybe your teammates can’t see the light so they need to see which door is actually open to run to.

I have seen more teammates die because of 99 gates than I have seen saved because kf the time it buys.

I only 99 gates if the killer has downed someone, then open them as soon as they get hooked.

Screw 99ing, it's scummy tactics to dodge being on a timer and avoid the pressure that the EGC is meant to provide.

It probably helps that I play mostly solo survivor and don't get too attached to my teammates.

When I 99 doors,I see with my information perk (either bond, empathy or kindred of a survivor is hooked) if the killer is chasing someone,if my team wants to go for a rescue or if everything is alright and I can leave.

I almost always open the gates immediately when playing solo. I feel like 99ing should be a technique left for swfs with comms.

There's a time for 99-ing the gates and a time to just open it - entirely situational and just like tunneling and camping are 'strategies', so too is 99-ing a gate. As a Blood Warden precaution, 99-ing was always the smart move and if someone gets downed from across the map it would be a dick move to just open the gate while there are other survivors still in play for the save. If you do so, you better be leaving immediately and not just hanging around the gate being useless.

Acting as gatekeeper is also smart as the last thing someone wants to see while the killer is just a few steps behind is three red lights on a closed gate and absolutely no one else in sight near it. Besides, they may also need a body block if they come to that gate.

Just make sure you do a proper 99, not a 95.

Not true. If he catches you because he closed the 5 meter gap you HAD of a lead, because YOU have to open the door, you get #########. If it's open, that 5 meters can be your escape.

I'd say if someone is on the hook far away, everyone else is by a gate, and you don't know for sure if the Killer has NOED, it's probably safer to heal up, open the gate, and bail.

This s just a case of situational gamesense tbh. Sometimes you have to 99, other times you open it up before becaus you know its necessary.

99ing is never the correct call. GTFO of my realm already.

I end being killed so many games because of it, A teammate save me, then the killer start chasing us, they take a hit and keep "fooling" (trying to) instead of opening the exit gate, then the killer hit the unhooker and after I open the exit gate, the killer hit me We both end in the hook.

Not if the hatch isn't open, we're talking end game scenario here
