New Ruin May be a Sneaky Perk...

A lot of people are complaining right now about the Ruin changes, how it is nerfing the perk, how the devs aren't considering why people REALLY run ruin, and how hex totems are often cleansed very early in the game.


It is true that Ruin was often cleansed as soon as possible, b/c the second you get a skill check you know you have Ruin and need to deal with it. Brute forcing a gen with Ruin isn't fun. It just isn't. But I know a lot of killers run it to help with super fast gen pops, which is very valid.


But with the new changes to Ruin, survivors aren't going to know killers have it. There will no longer be a color change or perk notification to let you know that Ruin is active, because it only affect regression, something that happens while survivors are away from gens. There is still the unlucky possibility that survivors will stumble across it before realizing what hex it even is, but otherwise how are survivors going to know the killer is running it?


I feel like this fact is getting overlooked because everyone is used to immediately knowing if Ruin is somewhere on the map. Now you won't. That could increase the chance of it lasting longer in matches than before, because you won't know that you should be looking for it.

    Except for, you know, the sparks flying from a regressing gen. All you need to do is tap it and watch. Sparks fly? Ruin. Sparks don't fly? No Ruin.

    I guess I missed that part of the update. I don't have access to PTB, so I just read the blog post. I assumed the gens had no visible tell when Ruin was in play. I feel like it shouldn't have a tell.

    Survivors get the cursed notification when they let go of a gen and it starts regressing, so all it takes is tapping a gen at the start and bam you know... or just spawn into the match halfway through cleansing the totem like usual.

    If they actually hid the cursed notification since they refuse to make it a non-hex perk, it would help but we all know that won't happen. (make me eat my words devs, please)

    The perk combines really well with Surveillance. This is a lot of information already.


    I played a match of killer with it a while ago. The new ruin is fine imo (I'm Rank 4). I got a 3k with Legion on the reworked Lery's

    I might hop on my smurf to see how it handles the higher/mid high ranks.

    Yeah, that's a bummer. I feel like the perk would be much stronger if survivors didn't get a notification, that way the hex has a chance to last to late game. Plus, I feel like survivors don't need to know about the hex anyways; even with the faster regression, hovering around the same gen or two while the killer is distracted will still negate the effects.

    I play mid-midhigh survivor most of the time, and I think the change to ruin sounds interesting, definitely more fun for the survivors, and I like the idea of "waiting for the right moment" to cleanse the totem. But, I was thinking this under the assumption I would no longer be notified that Ruin is even in play. I feel like that makes it too easy.


    Also, I know the devs don't want to alienate newcomers, but when I play with lower ranks I hardly ever see Ruin b/c most killers don't have it unlocked yet, so I don't feel like that's a huge issue for them.
