Playing Without Ruin

Out of curiosity and people saying that killers are just complaining without having tested it. I on live went and played a few games of trapper without ruin and I will say from my experience it can be done, but it certainly is less fun for killer and probably less fun for survivor if I am 100% honest.

I took the advice of Otzdarva and changed up my build to include Corrupt, Whispers, BBQ, and I Am All Ears.

This helped out in the early game a lot keeping people off gens, but not for very long. I ended both games with 2 gens left standing, however I had to sweat my butt off to keep those gens up and the survivors were not trying too hard to hammer them out either. There was a lot of proxy camping, and a lot of tunneling, but I was able to 4k both games with 4 iridescent emblems.

So they were right, it is still possible to 4k without ruin even on Trapper. But the days of playing kindly will die when this patch goes through. Without tunneling, without proxy camping, basically without playing scummy, you won't stand a chance playing a lower tier killer. And even then you still may end up losing if the survivors play around what you are trying to do.

Whether or not this will make killers leave is up in the air, but I will say I had less fun playing that way than I do just playing any killer and relaxing when my totem can stay alive for longer than 30 seconds.

I don’t feel like I can let the game reset anymore. If I catch you out of place, up on the hook you go. We can all play more efficiently now.

I use STBFL, Pop, Sloppy Butcher, and whatever other perk you want. Seems to work fine for me the majority of the time.

I never run any killer without BBQ because... bloodpoints

But I think you will find whispers to be very useful. If it lights up, someone might know where you are playing traps, last person left? Easily be able to pin point them. It saved my butt both games I played without ruin. So for me it is like shadowborn, a drug.

For me I like to run BBQ (Because I'm a dirty BP grinder), Thrilling Tremors, Surge and either I'm All Ears or Sloppy, depending on which killer I decide to play. I've never unlocked Hex, nor used it with Hag. Honestly, to me it's a perk slot going to waste when it can be destroyed at any time. I'd rather use that 4th slot for something that can help the entire match. I don't get constant 4 kill games, but I still get maybe 2-3 on average, and still manage to have fun too

This game is a money hungry machine: They’re looking to please beginners so that these players may put more money into the game. Anyone else who’s been here longer has already spent the money BHVR wants or have made up their mind not to, either way it’s a win-win for them.

Anyone else’s long-term fun is not a primary concern as the main reason for pumping out cosmetics and making the game more noob friendly speaks loads of the company’s intentions.

Really it’s nothing personal, and I mean this in the most sincere manner, it’s just business.

I rarely used ruin in the first place. It's always nice to have chill games where you have to time to 3 hook everyone and max out everything, but against sweaty teams, a killer does need to proxy camp and slug alot.

Favorite perks are pop, surveillance, bbq, last is pretty flexible. Franklins can actually cause survivors to waste loads of time looking around if they brought good items. Surveillance helps find the sneaky gen jockeys...... they usually don't loop well :)

I try to guard 3-4 gens all game in an area far from the best loops. Ideally creating a dead zone where I can get some good late game momentum. It can get a bit boring to stall out games, but everyone does end up with way more points because of it.

I have removed ruin from all of my killers that I use. The results have been fairly mixed... some good games, some okay games, and a few blowouts due to gen rushers.

I do like having that fourth perk slot open because ruin won't be considered a "mandatory perk". It has opened me up to a few new combinations of perks I would have never used.

Problem still is, however, lack of some killers map pressure on maps the size of Texas. By the time you reach the other side of the map, you've lost a gen already. This is what needs to be addressed. Want to take ruin? Fine, whatever, but address what the true issue is at hand.
