I don't understand...
Emblem system awards long games for both survivor and killer.
Developers want shorter games for slower killers (no more totem hunting as a secondary objective, Ruin is a staple for low mobility)

The emblem system makes no sense whatsoever. Don't question it. Ranks don't really mean anything so I don't worry about it

they never said they wanted to make games shorter?

Nerfing ruin will make games a lot shorter

Did I miss something? When did they say they wanted to remove totems as an objective or make the games shorter?

I edited my post to hopefully clear some things up.
I'll argue the age-old argument that the current Ruin is needed for killers that lack mobility/power for the initial portion of the game. We both already know the rest of this, so I'll spare you the reiteration.
The reason I stated that developers want shorter games is due to the fact that there is no other option for low-mobility killers to turn to that has a quick impact on early game generator progress (Corrupt Intervention is decent, but people more often than not hide for the duration and it still leaves some generators open for repair). Did they explicitly say that they want shorter games? No, but that's the way they're taking the game for most of the killers on the roster.
Sure, as survivors we can all hunt totems for the juicy 1,000 BP. But there's not really any pressure to find a totem early on, since all totems now have prerequisite goals you (or the survivors if NOED) have to complete before they start having an effect on survivor game-play, and that's if they aren't found before then.
End point is that the match is strictly controlled by the survivors skill and whether or not they're goofing around. When I run discordance on any low-mobility killer (Clown, Huntress, etc), I can't apply pressure on a generator that's halfway across the globe (and when I get there, it's pretty much done).

I'm not sure what the point you're trying to make is, since your comment seems to be making an entirely separate point from your edited OP. Are you trying to say that the changes to Ruin are bad because they conflict with the emblem system, or that the game in general is badly designed when it comes to game speed and applying pressure? Because those are two different issues.
To address the OP: there are a lot of other ways to slow down the game besides Ruin. I agree that the emblem system is flawed, but if emblems are the problem you have with the Ruin changes then you're lucky they changed Gatekeeper along with it, since that was the only emblem prominently affected by Ruin specifically. Also, totem hunting as a secondary objective is still very much a thing. The fact that Ruin is no longer as effective as it once was barely diminishes that.

I don't think the devs understand either. 😛
