I have achieved this on October 26th, so over a month can't be right. However I can't say if the map has shown since, as I didn't pay attention.

Can confirm also, and it does not require the great skill check, I received it with one trigger of the Alert perk. As ImprobablyCarny points out the counter in Steam is limited to 1, rather than the text indicated 50
