Pretty sure this has to do with the interaction with purchases and the store. Think Epic vs Apple. This is 100% a guess, but crossplay would allow you to circumvent the PS and Xbox stores by buying on PC and getting items on console. I have tons of hours in PS and would love this to happen, but I'm doubtful it will work…
