Have you ever played any other PvP game? It's always *the same thing over and over*. League of Legends: Farming in Lane -> Then Teamfights. Overwatch: Standing on objectives. Apex Legends: Trying to eliminate everyone else on the same map even. I think, for your typical online multiplayer game, DBD has enough variety IMHO.

Her backstory is left ambiguous. But since murders in the other killer backstories are usually explicitly stated it can be assumed that she hasn't killed him yet.

You have to keep in mind, this game is not only a video game, but in universe the trials are also essentially a "game" designed for the survivors to have a chance. So whenever the out of universe reason is "game balance" the in universe reason is "because the Entity wants a fair fight".

Didn't the Hag use her magic to literally call out to the Entity? At least that's how I always read the end of her backstory. That the signs her village taught her, summoned the Entity to allow her to take revenge. So her village would have known about the Entity.
