I feel like the backstory of FNAF is not childish it's just the memes and the edits/fanbase that makes it childish. Slenderman sounds like a good idea but sounds very counterable. All you have to do is not look at him. U will see him once then your heads on the ground for the remainder of the trial.

It gives the survivor a chance to end a chase to give maybe a give the killer a loss of sense of direction of the survivor. But most of the time the killer will listen but maybe just maybe the survivor will gain decent distance from the killer.
