Yeah the game is not very good at relaying stuff like this to survivors, you just kinda have to know it That's why playing Killer helps a lot, then you know this stuff from experience1 -

It doesn't reveal auras, it gives 'Killer instinct' which is a form of tracking that always works regardless.1
