It's a perk the game needs. A fair punishment to campers and tunnelers, and also motivates the survivors to be altruistic in dire moments.1 -

If it's just one DC then I'll keep going, after all the other survivors could have the same mind-set as the person who DCed first. I may consider giving the hatch to the last one depending …1
