I think op is referring to the fact that you need to have a character at p1 before you can use the automatic bloodweb completion feature. But I agree, paying for prestiging is unnecessary.1 -

Was it your first match of the day with that role? I think you still get the 300 xp for first match even if there is a DC during loading.1 -
