What is the purpose of the PTB?
Is it just to showcase what asinine thing is next in the pipeline? Because it sure as hell isn't for them to take criticism and feedback.
I mean, we all went into this knowing that they don't listen to the community before making changes to the game, but it doesn't feel like they know that. If you don't take feedback from your PTB, then there's no point in even putting out a PTB in the first place.
Oh, except to use the community as QA because you don't want to hire a dedicated, professional, and competent QA team.
Have they ever taken feedback from the PTB and acted on it before pushing the live version?
Honest question.

The PTB is like that psychic in movies that sees the darkest timeline approaching and tells us about it. However unlike the movies, we are unable to stop it from happening.
21 -
PTB is to drum up hype for the release.
10 -
The best thing about PTB is it will have none of the bugs that the subsequent live version will have.
5 -
Marketing, and it allows them to keep absolute minimum QA staff on hand.
3 -
But even then, what little QA staff they do have don't seem to do their job in the slightest.

A good PTB would look like this:
1 week ptb. one week pause. another week ptb with the updated version. repeat if necessary.
6 -
A 2-3 Week PTB should look like:
- Release Initial PTB
- Gather Feedback for next week update for PTB and tweak numbers around.
- Do the same for next week if it's 3 weeks.
It's the reason PTB is a joke in this game and why PTB after the 1st week is dead.
2 -
This. Exactly. Even if it disrupts their schedule, it produces a better, more enjoyable, and more polished game.

The purpose of a PTB is to test changes made in a small controlled setting to make sure it is stable and to make changes that need to be made in order to make the patch stable.
The purpose of a PTB to BHVR is that there isn't one. They are going to do what they want regardless of what the feedback is. They have proven this numerous times in the past and honestly it is never going to change. They have a hold on the survival horror market because it is the only game of its kind. They don't have to make changes they just have to add a Band-Aid here and there to make us happy. Such as the "We heard you loud and clear" crap at the top of the forum. No if they heard us loud and clear then they would had never released the patch as it is in the first place.

The purpose of the ptb isn't to fix any or most of the bugs/issues present in the patch released directly after that. Unless of course it's a game breaking bug.
It's purpose is so that the hot fix we get directly after the update doesn't take weeks longer then it usually does.

to find game breaking glitch that can cause the game to become unplayable or to find a list of active bugs that can be worked on
0 -
But even then, the hot fix still takes forever and doesn't address all of the issues. The devs push forward with features that get negative feedback, too. It seems like it's an exercise in arrogance and stubbornness.
2 -
It’s to give us a preview of all the bugs and unnecessary changes that will get pushed live even after everybody complains about them
1 -
Lets make sure this type of thread stays at the top of the forums, I bet the devs are hoping it will flood with "event" posts and hide all the issues. No...lets not let that happen

The point of the PTB is basically to show you the new and exciting bugs to expect in the game
1 -
Its a Bug Showcase.
2 -
Hype advertisement that's it. Not really for testing.
2 -
Pretty much this.
We also communicated in advance about the UI etc in our Q&A Stream where we explained that because console doesn't get a PTB we wanted feedback from that section of the Community, not just the small amount of players that played on the PTB.
We've confirmed that we're going through all the feedback that we've received since release of this patch on all platforms, and will address these in upcoming patches.

That's cute... but not very accurate since this patch was pushed out and it's even more broken than it was before, and I'd say with really gaem breaking bugs.

The point of the ptb is to waste your time and to give you an insight of what they're gonna break up on next patch, inevitably.
2 -
I do play the game, I'm also a full time BHVR employee...I'm a Community Coordinator and a member of the Community Team - my answer that hit validation is not turned off is perfectly correct it has not been turned off. As I have communicated in the message at the top of this forum, we are currently investigating what is happening with the strange hits right now.

I'm confused, then. If the PTB is for feedback from PC and the live version is for feedback from console, then why not just let the QA team do its job, push to live anyway, and then take feedback after the fact to try and "fix" things the community objectively hates? Why go through the farce of the PTB in the first place? Why use the community like lab rats instead of having QA sort through the game?

The PTB is pointless now. That's the bottom line.

Was disappointed to see that there was at least one game-breaking bug on the PTB that went through to the live (spectator soft lock).
0 -
Its there to generate hype. Of course, if it doesn't and people are pissed, BHVR will just ignore it. So really it serves no purpose.

Thats the lowest point of the barrel, good job, thats even more embarrasing.
