Question regarding the chat filter.
Will we have the option to turn it off similar to post game chat. Or will it be mandertory.
I am only asking as i would rather keep my filter off as id rather report a dude with actually proof and not a dude with hashtags.
Im not saying don't add it I want to clarify that... It should have been in the game to begin with.. But it was not explained if the feature eas optional like crossplay or chat or not.
So i am just asking?

you won't have the ability to turn it off no. You can still report people for chat offences, as we will see the actual words used, if you believe someone has used a bad slur against you or something.

Is there a particular reason why it's non-optional? I personally don't care either way myself as I'm not in the habit of harassing people in the chat, but I can't imagine why there at least wouldn't be an option.
Side note, I know slurs are now rightfully censored, but does the filter include 'minor' cusses (f**k, s**t, c**t, etc come to mind), because I think it's pretty hard for anyone to get offended by them.

It does. I saw on twitter it censured sh*t

That's really strange. Blocking out slurs I get but why is bhvr so weird about swearing? (See also: this forum)

For a game that is about death and gore, the community is treated like we're all children. Is quite pathetic tbh.
7 -
looks like it won't censor general profanity
5 -
I turned off the chat a while ago and I'm not planning to turn it on. But the funny thing is that despite the hashtags you still can understand when somebody insult you lol We all know those words, it is not like we will see "you ***ing useless piece of **** " and stay clueless, you know. Ban the whole message then.
Btw, people will still find a way (unfortunately) to insult you. They will press space bar between letters or use symbols or letter from other languages.

What is the context on this one though:
it seems like they're just censuring "BAD WORDS" like on the forums.
2 -
Wouldn't this increase so called false reports though? If I think someone said something racist, but am not 100% sure would I be false reporting them if it turns out they didn't?
2 -
Tbf a lot of the community behaves like children in PGC.
So I don't really mind it but I'd like to have some idea of what's being said to me
Like I would report someone who calls me a f*g
I wouldn't want to report someone who calls me a c**t even if that's still kinda rude
But I won't be able to tell the difference 🤔

It seems a bit pointless really. If someone calls me a fig or tells me to go and kiss myself, I'll still know what they mean. The intent behind the words are more of a problem than the words themselves.

If it generally only blocks out stuff that people could already be reported and punished for I see no issue honestly. Blacklists like this can certainly get really silly (there's games where you can't type words like "assassin" or "knight" because they contain blocked strings and the devs went a bit crazy with the wildcards for example) but keeping it focused on the stuff that's reportable to begin with works just fine.
Do wish systems like Steam's own user-customizable chat moderation tool was used more though. Has presets for slurs only, slurs + "hard swears" and nothing. But also lets users customize their own blacklist. Doesn't actually stop anyone from saying stuff that ultimately isn't against any rules (like the 5000 ways people say "ur bad lol" like ggez and git gud) but if someone really don't want to see it they can just add it there. Much better than having the devs say "No, we won't ban people for calling you bad" for the 806th time.

I'm just catching up with questions on this thread, so apologies for the delay from overnight.
I don't actually know the reasoning behind it being non optional I'm afraid, so I can't help there.
However, it's not going to filter every swear word - it will judge context. The gif in the Tweet was more lighthearted and obviously, we need to be careful what is shown/indicated in a tweet. Definitely slurs will be censored but not all swear words, the system works on context.

No that wouldn't be considered a false report. The good thing with chat offences with this system, is that it will allow us to check it very quickly and as we see the unfiltered version then it can be dealt with quickly once it's reported. There's no need to make Support tickets or anything like that.

It feels like a large portion of the community is children though
1 -
Yea it does, but it's quite ridiculous some of us getting the same treatment when we're almost in out 30s.

Apparently the new system should recognize people trying to bypass the filter and they can also add to the filter if players get creative with their insults.

Can we get it then? As someone who isn't offended by a single thing people say, and sees in every game that A) there are always false positives and B) any decent game does allow you to turn it off - all this has the potential to do is inconvenience me and make my user experience worse - no reason not to allow this to be an option

I also have a question? WIll it block out any other offensive comments like racist comments, or such?
0 -
It will yes, racial slurs, homophobic slurs etc will get blocked out.
2 -
I doubt it will work like a charm, like with every patch they release, there will always be something wrong. Well, I don't care about the chat at all, so I'm like meh😕

Okay thats good to know thank you

why the hell do you think the C word is a minor slur?
0 -
People let their 3, 4 and 5 year old children play this game for some reason so yeah.
0 -
My bad, I forgot that it's seen much worse in some parts of the world then others.
I'm Australian, for context. It's used very loosely and inoffensively here, typically.

I just want chat on console already... let me type GG...

Will this be active in SWF pre-lobby chat?
also when will it be activated, next chapter update (with PTB version) or is there no client sided update needed?
@MandyTalk (don’t wanna bug ya, but it seems you are already gathering info about this topic ;) )
0 -
yeah I'm British and it's commonly used here now, and it's used both ways here now, definitely changed over the last couple of years - previously it was considered to be really bad, but not anymore.
1 -
It will be in pre game lobby chat yes.
I don't have a full date for when it's released and the technical side is not my area I'm afraid, not sure what we can do our end as opposed to client side etc I am sure that prior to it going live there will be more information given on that.
2 -
Wait, your British? I didn know that, interesting

Jsut one question , do they have platform 9 3/4?
0 -
But I see hashtags when I type in phone or like odd words. I was trying to explain I got a phone call and it blocked phone out lmao

It’s funny how they focus on working on this chat filter, rather than there actual game.

The other night, i wanted people to tell them what i saw using bond, but bond was censored.
Its kind of strange to have an after game chat when you cant even use words that apply to this game, like perk names for example.
Also, i wanted to call out someone for teabagging, because it is a rude insult, and i couldn´t do that too.
Is that working as intended?
0 -
Well it's kinda hard to report someone for chat abuse now that 50 % of the words are censured, including survivors and killers names.
If i was to follow the *** in chat i would then report everyone as it looks like their are getting censured for offensive words ^^

I feel the chat sensor has something to do with who is investing in the game. They are quite sensitive people.
I couldn't say him... HIM.

BHVR thinking a automatic program can detect context accurately, now i have seen everything
