The Oni's greatest weakness, should it be fixed?
I'm sure any person who plays a healthy (maybe even an unhealthy) amount of Oni knows that there is one thing you can do that just completely screws him over. That weakness is delaying the first hit by playing really safe i.e dropping pallets early.
It can be pretty lame to go against as Oni because there is quite literally, NOTHING you can do but mindgame if you are even able to before they just run away.
It doesn't always happen, but it is definitely a problem because it just makes the Oni look like a joke.
But of course making it easier to get blood fury would buff the Oni when he is already strong enough most of the time. So, should it be fixed or just left alone?

Oni's entire power is balanced on the fact he needs an initial hit to get it. Removing this requirement and essentially making him a ticking time bomb would remove a lot of the fun and counterplay to facing an Oni (not all of it, but being able to pay around his power by denying the initial hit and then in other ways too I'd what makes him so fun and a genuine test of skill v skill). This change would mean that his power would have to be nerfed heavily in response, less he become one of the, if not the best killer in the game.

It’s not like they can play around that pallet forever. Oni can 4k slug a team in literally a minute and survivors can’t play around pallets forever, I think this is a really simple “balance” to him.

Yeah I guess so, it just sucks when playing against that.

This is why he’s so overrated. There are plenty of safe pallets to drop early making it impossible for him to gain momentum. As long as all survivors are on gens during this time it’s an easy game, Oni will forever be on the backfoot trying to play catch up. Its also why DH is so overpowered, DH for distance to a safe pallet can absolutely cripple an Oni game by itself I’ve seen it happen to many good players.
Shocker but the same applies to Freddy. Play pallets safe and rush gens and he doesn’t gain any momentum.

There are enough safe pallets to play around with for the gens to get done. This has been proven many times.
All you need is survivors on gens (swf) and not survivors hiding in bushes or walking around doing nothing and killers like Oni and Freddy are incredibly easy to beat. The only reason people struggle against Oni is because some survivors dont want to do gens, they want to explore for 2 minutes first, or Oni gets an early laggy hit and then just waits for the blood.

I think that problem comes from poor map design, on a more balanced map it is easier for Oni to get his power.

“I think the problem comes from poor map design”
This could be the tagline for the game at this point. It applies to almost everything.

It really does though. Map design is definitely the most pressing issue for the game.

Dead Hard for distance = already injured = Oni can get power.

no its the only thing stopping him from being spirit levels of broken

I think as his power is strong - doesn't lose it after getting a down etc, and can effectively slug quite a few players in a short space of time, the fact that he has to build up his power in the first place balances him up quite a bit.

I'd say hes pretty balanced

If your having trouble landing firsts, run chase perks like bamboozle and brutal strength on him. I think his biggest problem is that it takes longer to get into his power than it does to spend his power. The reason is because his power only lasts 45 seconds, -7 second per down reducing its duration to 38 base and when you are in demon form, survivors do not drop blood orbs which increases his down-time.
If his power was 60 seconds and did not penalize him for downing survivors while survivors still drop blood orbs when he is in demon form, he would be contender for one strongest DBD killers. Survivors would complain that he is S-tier. The fact you need to use Lion Fang to make remotely playable slugger showcases his poor variable balance. I think its strongest add-on as well. I guess PTB Oni was too scary for survivor mains.

Playing very safe against Oni by dropping pallets early and such is a double edged sword.
It can be very effective in a good team but can also backfire very easily if someone screws up.
It's comparable to not cleansing against Plague.

The fundamental issue with Oni's design IMHO is that the only thing that makes him pretty good is getting his power and being able to slug everyone; this basically makes him an extremely linear killer.
Everyone runs the same exact builds on Oni because there are very few perks that make sense to run with his power. Without Infectious Fright and slugging, he just becomes kind of a ######### one shot killer.
While he's still one of the coolest killers in the game, i just find him to be a more boring version of Billy.
