Content creators

I really don't want to talk bad about any content creators out there so I won't be naming any.

It's just a simple question

Do you think they are the reason this community is so divided?

My personal opinion:Yes 80% why? Because think about it they have their huge fan base each of them is playing different roles and each of them are analysing their opposites either killer or survivor and like we know their fans tend to not have personality but follow everything they say and that creates more and more drama in this community (example one of them (no name) talked about swf nerf and suddenly all social medias connected to dbd are full of it for days and two opposite sides are fighting like dogs for days already) so that's my personal opinion let's hear yours? ❤️

Not even slightly? People who like one side more than the other are going to be tribalist about their side regardless of who they watch, if any. Content creators propagate some opinions, especially when it comes to killer tier lists, but people sure as hell don't need the help to be mad about facecamping/tunneling/slugging/genrushing/tbagging/clicking and, over the course of many bad matches, deciding that everyone on the other side is some combination of lazy, undeserving, hyper-competent, and evil, and only winning because BHVR is endlessly nerfing [their side] to favor [other side] in a clearly [other side]-sided game.

Most major content creators are pretty level-headed, and the issues they raise are either with specific killers or perks, or broader issues like matchmaking. It stands to reason that the division in the community doesn't come from them. Sure, they might start a discussion, but they didn't cause everyone to hate each other when the screaming starts five seconds later. The division in the community comes from resentment and distrust for the other side's intentions.

I agree for that there's definitely some of them that are pure enjoyable to watch and listen (mostly smaller content creators)

Yes and no. See some content creators are amazing people, and actually bring out a rather fun, and cheerful side of this community. However some have inspired terrible behaviour, and what happens is that it becomes an echo chamber. People will repeat their behaviours and blindly believe their ideals. Like Mooks said however without Content creators the game would've died out pretty quickly

Agree that's why I said 80% not 100% because I do see amazing content creators

Fighting like dogs is a bit hyperbolic isn't it? I personally like the conversations that arise. People like Scott and Dowesy make pretty good arguments in regards to actually buffing solo players rather than begging swf provided MMR exists because shrinking the difference between swf and solo would make MMR work better.

Granted I mostly watch killers because that's way more entertaining so maybe the survivors are more aggressive on the issue.

That said I think you're giving a handful of people far more credit for shaping the conversation than they actually are. The community is divided because the rules are so heavily divided. Look at the huge litany of invented rules survivors expect killers to follow. Those come from the survivors and not some kids talking on the internet.

Trust me if u visit some of Instagram dbd pages or reddit etc etc you'll see what I meant by "fighting like dogs"

Yep you worded it better than I did that's exactly my thoughts (not surprising my English is terrible 😂)

I don't think content creators as a whole are a problem. Ones like OhTofu are great, consistently provide balanced takes, and don't love the smell of their own farts.

Then you have large ones that I won't name who are complete knobs and aren't nearly as good at the game as they or their fans think they are but influence discourse in a large way.

It's a mixed bag like anything else.

Some content creators are to blame for their behaviour, for sure

But they also have very limited control over their audiences actions, one of the bigger dbd streamers has to go out of their way to dodge TTVers/other streamers because if they do something even slightly obnoxious they'll be bombarded by "fans" who will chastise them for their behaviour

However I feel some content creators are harming the discourse surrounding the game, because some people just parrot what they say, post their videos and don't articulate their own points and thoughts. It's like when people say that X killer is bad then post a video from a content creator and go "that proves it"

I don't really like where the DBD community is at right now with content creators, the recent drama just goes to show.

I don't think its fully them maybe a 40 percent them the other 60 is just the fact that it's a pvp game with one side that you can choose and prefer. Its just cause people like for their side to be better. Now do I think that some people increase that by a great factor YES 100% if a killer main that is popular says "survivor is too good" then some killer mains will think the same and that idea will spread now if a popular survivor creator says " Killer is broken" then the same will happen. Its just the fact that more times than not people don't wanna be on the losing side so they make the other side seem broken so they can be more nobel by playing the losing side or they get the other side nerfed. At least thats my take on it anyway.

I'm just going to put my eyes in here, just to remind people not to name content creators on this thread...you've all been great about this, but I want to make sure that we're staying within the forums naming & shaming rules.

No worries I strictly not named any content creator because it's their privacy just wanted to hear opinions about this subject ❤️

Which is common amongst many content creators, and fogwhisper's even. However I do believe there are some good people with equally amazing content if not better at times. Also damn it you always find a way to reword my opinions better then I ever do.

Not really. I mean popular people can have influence on others but a lot of gamers are vile and devoid of any empathy.

Apparently it's not clear enough that naming and shaming is against the rules, even when we warn on the thread, so we are closing this discussion.
