So here's a wild idea I got from watching Ohmwrecker play Prophunt with friends...
What if DBD ditched survivor and killer queues, and just made one overall queue, where players are randomly assigned their role?
Havoc, I know, but it might shrink the us vs. them gap a bit, weaken the cutthroat, competitive nature, and allow players a better perspective of both sides.

Hm, 1/5 chance of getting the role I get any enjoyment for and have things unlocked on (and bought) or play something else. Hard choice...

I think if that was the way it was initially in the game, it wouldn't be so bad. But I think the game has come too far for that to work now - players will just dodge if they don't get the role they want etc. And also SWF playing together, if one of them is chosen to play the killer, then that's hardly going to be a great match for a random person or two that's put with them.

Honestly one of my favorite parts of the game is being able to queue as you wanted.

that feature was actually one of the (among many) reasons why I never have Friday the 13th a chance.
i was only interested in playing the survivor part when i started DbD and i would have very much dc‘ed or afk‘ed back then if i was assigned to be killer.

It pairs impossibly badly with unlockable perks and add-ons and characters, too. Particularly the ones that require monetary payment.
"You have a 1/5 chance for an opportunity to use this other thing you paid for". Not... great. Not even the flipside of 4/5 chance of Survivor opportunity.

This system sucked so, so hard in Friday.
I reinstalled it not long ago to give it a chance, hoping I could be Jason.
First game? I get Jason! Woohoo! Well...too bad. Somebody else wanted to be Jason and quit, which ended the match.
The same thing happened the second game.

Random killer selection would work well for a "No SWF" casual game mode.
But the devs have repeatedly stated that they do not want to put in different game modes because that would split the queue and make lobby times longer. Never mind that expanding the game in interesting ways would attract new players or bring back players who left because the core game has grown boring (or because SWF is unbearable).

I think I can safely say if I was randomly forced to play survivor I might not have stuck with the game. I just enjoy playing killer way more personally.

Please dear god no. I gave up on Friday the 13th early on because I wanted to play Jason, not the counselors. That would easily be the fastest way to kill this game. Let people play what they want to play when they want to play it.

I think that would only work if there was a third option added to randomly choose if your survivor/killer. So can choose play survivor, play killer, or surprise me. If you choose surprise me you get thrown into whatever role needs to be filled at that time for a lobby. If forced people would not like playing role they didn't want to play but if they are choosing to go in as either because they don't care what side they play that is OK.
