Is "wishing death" reportable/bannable?
So this is just for clarification.
I know threats (someone saying "I will BLEEP you") is bannable.
I know telling someone to harm themselves is bannable ("go BLEEP yourself").
My question is, is WISHING death/harm on someone is endgame chat bannable?
This person got really annoyed with me for NOT killing the last two survivors and letting them go...
They didnt TELL me to BLEEP myself. Or threaten to BLEEP me themselves. They wished my grandmother died. Or better me.
Is there any point in reporting this? Is this a loophole? I might be overly sensitive because I'm very close with my grandmother and I feel this is crossing the line...

Yes. Wishing death to anyone is reportable.

Thank you. I was worried this would be a loophole. Glad that its not!

Yup.

Nope.
From what the devs have said, anything that isn't hatespeech or a credible threat is not only acceptable, but an integral part of online gaming.
So stuff like 'I hope all your relatives die of something nasty' is completely fine and not even worth reporting.

Imagine how sad your life is to get so tilted over a video game that you wish someone to stop existing lol
9 -
Is it reportable? Yes
Will anything be done about it? No
Hope this helps.

That's incorrect. Credible threats can result in a permanent ban, while "Insults, intimidation, hateful speech, repeated harassment" can result in a temporary suspension. What the original post describes probably falls under the latter category.

Back in my day, we would insult them worse and leave... what happened with people? MAN UP AND INSULT THAT FELLA.

I reported about 5 of these in the last couple of days. Seems like the blood hunt event gets people to missbehave even more. I don't know if any of these people got temporarily suspended, but I would hope so, as some of the stuff was pretty despicable. This got nothing to do with manning up or having a thin skin. You shouldn't wish someone or someones loved ones death or horrible dooms, just because someone bested you in a game.

I would not have realized he meant grandma by saying nan. I am American, here... We don't do that.

I always feel sorry for people that say stuff like that. You know they are miserable and projecting.

I'd be fine with general insults. But if you bring my family into it you're crossing a line.
I don't know what defines "manning up" more than defending your loved ones

All I know is that, when I started out playing this game and was wayyyy less coolheaded, I messaged someone with the acronym for a phrase that rhymes with "Pie in a Choir", and I got temp banned over it. I learned my lesson, and don't resort to that kind of juvenile behavior/abuse anymore.
This was back in 2016 btw, back when this game was much worse balance wise, and playing killer was far more frustrating.

Those are the rules as written.
As enforced though, as confirmed by Mandy recently - very little is actually actionable.

lol, slap on the wrist, someone told me to get cancer and called me autistic, i runned into them few days later.
i would get told to kill myself at least once a week when i actively played killer.
Meanwhile the regular abuse i get on games like league of legends or rainbows 6 siege is "ur bad" in those game you get punished quickly for saying these things.

Or the actual rather cute "omg your bad. Plz uninstall the game! N00b." But the legit threats to life and limb I got in this game here are really something else.
My worst insult probably was "I wish your mom dies and the day of her funeral become a national holiday." Wow. Thats really something... But one trial, were I tunneled, one survivor asked for my shovel so that they could bury my children with it. I mean, thats a level of personal attacks that we don't need in this game. Call me an idiot, incompetent, a loser, whatever, but leave this cruel sheit out of it.

I don't agree with saying stuff like what's being said, but at the same time I can't believe how thin-skinned people are that someone being angry at being beaten makes them come to forums to have a rant about what they said. If you can't handle some twelvie saying bad words, close the chat. You can filter and ban as much as you like, people will always find a way to taunt you, and falling for it this badly just gives them what they want.

Just man up. It's online multiplayer lobby, what do you expect? Say GG or tell him the same and move on. So many snowflakes smh.

Its not our place to question how some mightve been sheltered. Sometimes its a persons form of a coping mechanism neither good nor bad but dont be a bully in your comments when they were bullied in the game. Its one of those roll your eyes moments and leave it at that.

If you post a screenshot in the report is it enough proof to take action? If you just report them without having recorded the match or taken screenshots will it matter? I've heard if you simply report them it has no effect as they(report team) can't review your report if you don't offer video proof or screenshots...
Also what I would like, with the report system, is a notification just like in CS GO where it says someone you reported has been banned, thank you for the contribution, some sort of notification to have acknowledged me that my report was not in vain and that person has been found guilty and has been banned... That would be really nice !

Death wishes are reportable, let's not misinterpret what Mandy said, there's a huge difference between smack talk and actual death wishes/death threats.
@TheOptimiser for verbal abuse, only the in-game reports are mandatory, screenshots help with the process, but are not necessary for this kind of offenses, it's explained here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/139-game-rules

Put in the link where she said that. I definitely don’t remember Mandy saying anything like that.

Way to blame the victim for someone else’s bad behavior. 🙄
9 -
Imagine thinking it's at all acceptable to wish death upon someone for being annoyed at losing a video game, and then proceeding to blame the person who received the comment for not just taking it. People are all affected by what's said in different ways, and it is never the responsibility of the person being harassed to just take it.
Tell me you lack empathy without telling me you lack empathy

Sadly support team does not care about those reports. You can report them, but they'll not ban them, even with evidence like this screenshot for example. The mods here don't even try to help you and will try to ignore with your answers as much as they could. I reported one like that before that was death wishing me one month ago and he's still not banned. Amazing company 😂

As you were told - an ingame report has to be made, screenshots cannot be relied on due to how easy they are to fake. Which is why an in-game report is MANDATORY for all reports.

Someone told me to kill myself after a game on PS4 in the one week I had messaging enabled. I reported it to Sony who said that there was nothing wrong with what they said.
So that was nice of them.

You have the offender player's steam ID + his nickname, compare it with the screenshot and see if it's accurate. It's really not that hard lol
Also do you suspect that I edited the screenshot to blame someone for no reason? Lmao
Also did you even saw this screenshot? It wasn't even edited at all

Why lie?

...Zuh?
That was my interpretation of what Mandy said. It has now been clarified, although it still seems like there is an enormous grey area.

I find that very hard to believe. Sony is pretty quick on banning or at least deleting messages even with simple swears in them. I met a guy back in dark souls 3 who would invade people, message them after and try to get them to swear or say something stupid just so he could report them and get them banned for a bit of extra lol's.
I've also reported a guy as a joke for calling me a little piece ######### with a few other choice words and the message got moderated within a few minutes. No idea if he got banned but they do at least delete the messages. I've also talked with a few people who've gotten banned for 24hrs just for simple swears as well.
If what you're saying is true then you most have gotten the only bot or person in Sony that's lenient on that.

To be honest I had heard similar reports about Sony being quick to ban. So I am sure you can imagine that I was rather shocked when they said there was nothing wrong with being told to kill myself. Which obviously should be taken more seriously than simply saying a naughty word.
Such as 'knickers'.

I think we're pretty clear in the rules with regards to death wishes etc so I don't feel that it's something that needs to be explained again - for those that are interested, the Game Rules and the correct way to report a player are HERE . If an in-game report is not made, we are unable to take any action on the offender, the report flags the match so that we can be sure that it actually happened, and that we can see the chat logs (for chat offences obviously). We make this very clear in the rules that we post.
Consoles have their own system for reporting chat offences as we do not have in-game chat for consoles so what happens and what action is taken is purely down to that platform and that is out of our control. If you are a console player and find yourself getting harassed in this manner, please report directly to the platform that you are playing from.
