Headset reccomendations?
The kind you Spirit mains use. @TheGannMan I give you permission to break your promise for this thread.
Preferably one without an inline mic/volume adjuster. I hate that nonsense as it's the reason my current one is slowly breaking. I have a Yeti mic so there's no need for any mic option if at all possible.

Is budget a concern? I have a set of Beyerdynamic DT1990s running through a THX AAA 789 amp. You'll hear pretty much everything the game will allow you to hear. Can't overcome bad sound occlusion or audio bugs. They also have the added benefit of deleting CoH because you hear the totem from a mile away

Budget is not an issue. What's the point of the amp though? I'm prepared to go hard but that seems like a weird setup for a headset.

Once upon a time, over a decade ago, Steel series had a minimalist headset with amazing sound, no built in mic, and you could plug the audio cable into either ear, as well as plug another headset into the other ear so someone could listen to what you were listening to.
They stopped making it, and my life has never been the same.

For higher end headphones, you need to provide them more power than a soundcard can typically provide. They'll sound worse than a low or mid range pair if you aren't supplying the necessary power.

I would actually recommend Turtle Beach Headphones. They are high quality in speakers and has a mic.
However, this is in my opinion since I use Turtle Beach all the time.

Hey. i would buy a steelseries arctis pro + gamedac or buy a buy a 7.1 surround sound app in the windows Store + a good stereo Headset. Those mentioned 7.1 surround sound apps cost around 15-20 bucks. There are DTS and Dolby Surround. I prefer DTS, because of a higher Bitrate, which makes the sound much better than with the compressed dolby digital app imo.
If you like to hear where a Survivor or the Killer is walking towards, without having to look, i would recommend checking those surround sound apps out.

If the place you play there's no noise background, you should go for open back headphones, they are the best. Open back headphones provide the most clear sound, with natural soundstage and imaging, but you gonna hear everything around you because they don't have background isolation. If that is not the problem, my suggestion is the Sennheiser HD 560s.

Don't know if there is a policy against shopping links, but can you do me a solid and make sure this is the amp product, or comparable? I'm going to go with the headset you recommended and the Dolby digital app, that should cover all my bases.

That should work. I have the 789 version and it looks mostly the same. You'll want to mess with the gain setting until you get to a level where you hear the subtle stuff but also don't blow your ear drums out.

I ended up getting your version because it has several hundred more reviews. I used my Amazon points and it costed me nothing for both that and the headphone because I'm a consumer ######### :)

One thing you should do when you get it set up (assuming you're on PC): go into gameusersettings.ini and change audioqualitylevel=0 to 2. It defaults to 0 regardless of your equipment but the game is capable of putting out much better audio. Not sure why it's not an option in the menus

i mean i don't see why a pair of headphones would be exclusively used for dbd, high-end headphones generally cost a lot of money and i can't imagine anyone would buy a pair like that just for gaming

Well if that is the case then hifiman is also an option. They sell planar headphones that excel at reproducing detail but I wouldn't go below hifiman sundara.
As i said earlier, Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Will let you hear the slightest breath, but some people can't deal with the treble. Try get a demo before you buy.
Focal Clear is another good option
Thats just off the top of my head if you are after insane detail such as hearing grass rustle and survivors breathe.
A cheaper option is the AKG k702. Been seeing good things about that.

I've already made the order, and I'm not too concerned about Treble. But in the even that it doesn't work out I'll check these out.
I've only heard a survivor breath once, they were in a bush in Midwich. It was glorious.
