Anna hates men. Thoughts about huntress (gameplay + lore)

why cant we give her some special bonuses against male survivors? her lore explicitely states that she kills men and kidnaps little girls. i think she would behave differently to survivors of different genders. not to mention that bill is a soldier and she kills soldiers.

now the bill situation would be too specific, but an interaction with the sex of the survivors would be cool and something we haven't seen, differentiating survivors and making them more than skins. without changing their mechanics. i know there are no "little girl" survivors but they're still female, and she never sees females, only soldiers. i assume she would treat them differently.

now for her perks, they're pretty bad. in her lore, we see her ambushing a group of soldiers one by one. so territorial imperative could give her undetectable when she's near shack or basement.

by the way, her lore is very inconsistent. her original one says the she kidnaps little girls, ties them up, and just watches as they rot away, not understanding that they need to be fed. after her mother died, she lived alone in the woods with no human contact becoming basically a beast.

(in the trials, you would imagine that she slugs/cripples female survivors so that they can't run away from her, and just watches them die slowly. could be a mechanic with slugging that's waiting to happen, perhaps making them "drain" faster, while making male survs die faster on hook.)

but in the tome entries, she exhibits pretty complex properties of language, and also judges the soldiers who kill eachother because "that's not the way you kill prey, they're wasting the meat" basically meaning that from a hunting perspective killing eachother is not efficient. also implying that she very much understands that people need to eat to live.

im missing a couple of entries but idk, looks like she got basically retconned. from beast to just a regular sociopath. sad because it was much more interesting before.

i mean in general, they probably changed writers about 2 years down the line. whoever writes the tome entries must be the same person, because they have all the same style of short burst, emphasising repeatedly the same thoughts, sort of like a stream of conciousness by james joyce.

i posted this in general discussions cause no one browses the lore subforum, but if the mods think it fits more there then feel free to change it.

Give her unique moris and lullabies depending on the gender.

For men they get the standard Mori and a more menacing/dangerous sounding lullaby.

Women get the standard lullaby and a Mori where she more or less incapacitates them.

Maybe as a bonus for targeting male survivors she can pick up the axe she just threw (as long as it isn't iri head) from the downed survivor. I don't think the bonuses should be too big.

that's a great idea. another one could be only female survivors hear the lullaby. or it's only there while a female survivor is on a hook.

in general, there was a very obvious theme about motherhood and childhood that got completely lost with the new lore. after losing her mother, who was all she had, she basically tried to get a daughter of her own, singing them the same lullabies her mother did.

"When unsuspecting travellers came through her woods, she discovered her new favourite prey: humans. Unlucky souls who strayed into her territory were slaughtered like any other animal."

"But she could never bring herself to kill the little girls."

"Villagers spread the legend of a half-beast lurking in Red Forest: The Huntress, who killed men and ate little girls."

the new lore, it became male-centric with the whole "finding a gift for my dead soldier daddy" thing. this doesnt even make sense since in her original lore, she had no father figure from the start. also it's implied that she became a killer before the war even started.

"War eventually came to the forest."

it also says that after the war, rumors of her existance died out.

Gameplay wise- this doesn't work because people can just pick, y'know, female survivors.

how would people pick female survivors if you cant see what killer you're up against in the lobby? also i never said that they should have an advantage, just different interactions.

Lore wise- this doesn't work because somehow making female survivors die slowly and painfully is treating them better than the male survivors?

well, she does just that in her lore. it's not like i made it up myself. i would think swiftly dying with an axe in the head would be more merciful than wasting away slowly. but you have to understand the huntress is not a normal person like me and you, she doesn't have the mental capacity to understand her actions.

the girls would be tied by the neck with a rough and chafing rope fastened firmly to the wall. She couldn't let them wander off, or they would surely die outside.Every time, the girls would waste away and die of cold or starvation or sickness.

-I don't think Huntress cares about gender at all, she takes the little girls because she sees herself in them and wants to help them.

Unlucky souls who strayed into her territory were slaughtered like any other animal. But she could never bring herself to kill the little girls. Girls she would take back to her house, deep in the woods. They were precious, and looking at them woke up something deep in her heart.

i think it's obvious that she does care about gender, keep in mind that for her:

men = the soldiers who kill eachother.

women = her mother, herself, and the daughter she wants to have.

she has never had a normal interaction with a man. well, or any people except her mother. you can't apply your normal logic to her. put yourself in her shoes. if she had any.

So just slug any female survivors you see and stare at them as they bleed out. Bring a mori for the guys and do this at your discretion.

it doesnt have to be a bonus, just an interaction. even non-balance related (someone suggested different moris).

but even if it was a bonus, what's the problem with that? we already have mechanics like that with the obsession, where you may want to single out a survivor. it's just that it's uninteresting and random. if im playing laurie and im against a michael, i want it to matter.

killers have agency and a will by the way, they're not just walking objects. they could have whatever reason to hate certain survivors more, hell, they could even be racist for all we know.

Being the obsession is mostly because of perks, not because of gender.

It does seem like BHVR retconns a lot of their stuff

IF they did something like this then giving Survivor bonuses for each Survivor based on perks or something like that would be that hard to think of

Why would anyone want to play men against huntress if they knew they would just get targeted for it so the huntress players gets a few bonus?

because... it would be a game mechanic like any other? "why would anyone want to use balanced landing if the killer can just offer lerys?" ???

What is next? Killing people of certain races gives you more BP? Lmao

reaching for the stars, i see. i really dont get the point of this comparison. suggesting a mechanic that makes sense for a character and their backstory is the same thing as encouraging racism for literally zero reason to you?

  • Marigoria
    Marigoria Member Posts: 6,090

There's a big difference between perks and gender. I'm sorry that maybe something as basic as that hasn't occurred to you, maybe you should go outside more into the real world.

By that logic, it makes sense for the character. Should racist characters, which there are some, get bonus for killing certain races? It's part of the lore, after all.

"why cant we give her some special bonuses against male survivors?"

If you're not trolling, Bhvr would never do this. In what world do you think the company that removed masks from LF due to Claudette then go ahead and give a killer special bonuses for killing a certain gender?

  • Marigoria
    Marigoria Member Posts: 6,090

You're missing the point. Why is it not ok to have racist mechanics in the game but you want sexist mechanics in the game?

Thank you, I just literally blew coffee all over my keyboard and woke up my wife laughing.

    That said:

    This wouldn't work.

Let's put aside the ethics here (BHVR would never do this, they take pride in being extremely 'progressive') - it would be silly from a mechanical sense as you're talking about a killer that has a power based entirely on RNG and survivor choice. You'd just see savvy Huntress mains lobby shopping for all male matchups.

  • cordonrouge
    cordonrouge Member Posts: 155

how is it a sexist mechanic?

if the developers said "kill all female characters, because females are inferior, and get bonus BP" THAT would be a sexist mechanic.

but you're worried about... a crazed lunatic who slaughters people with an axe's gender bias? oh no, she can't be sexist. murdering people in cold blood is fine, but she has to have no preference! everybody gets to have equal opportunities when being slaughtered mercilessly ❤️.

by the way, we already have character specific interactions with nemesis and Jill. he shouts "stars" when grabbing her.

i guess something similar with huntress would make players believe that sexism is okay.

you're talking about a killer that has a power based entirely on RNG and survivor choice.

literally who said that? this is what you're all projecting onto me but I never did. I talked about small BONUSES or INTERACTIONS. also, they don't have to advantage one gender or another, just make it have different effects on each.

  • Marigoria
    Marigoria Member Posts: 6,090

Targeting someone based on gender isn't ok, it does not matter if they are a man or a woman.

There is a big difference between Nemesis saying "STARS" to Jill AND Chris, because they are part of special forces, than just targeting someone based on their identity (gender/race/etc).

  • lauraa
    lauraa Member Posts: 3,195

most female survivors already have hatch advantage, lets not buff one side too much here.

  • cordonrouge
    cordonrouge Member Posts: 155

being part of special forces is part of your identity, just like being a doctor is.

also, are you implying that targeting people, and murdering them is fine as long as it's not done based on personal identity?

but the real question is, could you just go back to Twitter please?

Uhhh, you guys have fun but all I can think about is Clown and his back story. Maybe from now on each Map will bring along his horse and caravan and clown can try carrying them to his caravan. If he succeeds then the doors shut and all we hear are the screams from the victims that he is mentally and physically torturing to his hearts content. Survivors basically hot Mori for getting caught too close to Clowns personal space.

what? Too graphic, dumb, and unfair? But but MY LORE!

you wanna add nods to some Lore, DbD does that already. You wanna Inject Lore to forcibly change the gameplay, then prepare for Pandora’s box to open because EVERYBODY has lore, not just Huntress~

As a fantasy story writer i love ideas like this.

However not sure how gameplay in game would be if all killers had their lore more into game.

(But, i would love to hear Nemesis says his quote from RE games to this game, every time he says "S.T.A.R.S" i get shivering feelings. in a good way. :D)

As this would clearly cause a situation where players were singled out due to the gender of the character they were playing, think I can safely say this isn't going to happen and close this post right here.
