Spine Chill update
Due to the devs wanting the perk to still be usable for HOH and Deaf people, it will now work only (light up) when you're in the killer's terror radius.

Update: Perk will still only work when the killer is in line of sight...

Yes. Most killers only need to crabwalk 33 meters to every single generator instead of crabwalking 37 meters.
8 -
I agree, but at this time I'd rather have this than whatever the hell that other option with the LOS was.
I wonder if it will only light up when the killer is looking in your direction or just by being in the terror radius? And if it will still have a cooldown? Devs?
6 -
I think that it is a fair change for those who cannot hear or play music while playing. If they don't spot you early then at least the chase starts at a little closer distance.
0 -
Hopefully they removed the cooldown. Having a cooldown defeats the whole purpose of helping the hoh/deaf community.
8 -
Can it at least be looking directly in the survivors direction, instead of “is in the field of view on my monitor”, so I’m not forced to crabwalk 33 meters to every generator? I’m ok with awkwardly moving diagonally if I can still see if any survivors are running away, but being forced to walk completely sideways or backward for 33 meters fells terrible.

"Spine Chill will now only activate if the Killer has a clear line of sight to the Survivor. This will remove the awkward counterplay where the Killer must look away to ensure a stealthy approach."
SIKE! you guys still gotta crab walk across map
3 -
You really complaining about a feature to help hoh/deaf people just because it makes you have to make a bit more effort to get closer to survivors?
And like it was said in the clip, it wont work on undetectable.
7 -
No one is forcing you to do anything. If you're undetectable it wont light up.
5 -
The perk countering undetectable was wrong. This is a fair change.
8 -
That's the only thing they should have done with it, make it not work with undetectable since HoH/Deaf people wont have a disadvantage there since there's no sound for anyone.
I do hope they remove the cooldown though.
5 -
This seems like a favorable shift even beyond the boundaries of continuing to provide assistance to HoH folks - won't it being terror radius based mean that an undetectable killer with direct line of sight wouldn't activate it now? (Meyers Tier 1, Ghost Face stalking)
0 -
Undetectable killers and perks wont make Spine Chill activate
1 -
That rules! Also global terror radius build doctor will be triggering it from across the map, which is just as funny in the opposite way.
Super happy with this proposed change! I think its way more important for stealth killers to be able to evade this perk than, say, a nurse.

Nope, in fact, we already had/have a nice thread about this topic, you just wanted to start another one.
I have and will continue to support accessibility in this game, I myself wear glasses when playing due to my vision (wearing them now to see the screen text as I type) so for you to even insinuate that I do not support these things is a bit shallow. However, I CAN and will point out the Spine Chill changes were done to stop crab walking.... then reverted and we still crab walk.
You can find my support here https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/331253/spine-chill-change-being-deaf

This change is pretty fair since no one will be aware of undetectable killers/perks but also wont make HoH/Deaf people at an disadvantage. I'm pretty happy with it.
3 -
And you're still complaining.
And no, there was no thread about the update in specific, it was mentioned on the comments on another thread but it wasn't the thread itself, so making one it's easier for people to see it directly instead of having to fish out information from comments.
2 -
You must not know the definition of complaining, but do go on... I linked the thread you claim did not exist LUL
0 -
I think you need to spine "chill" out a little bit 🤣
4 -
The thread you linked is from a deaf player sharing their struggles with the first iteration of the spine chill update, which since then has been updated to this one. So like I said, the only mention of the most recent spine chill update was just in the comments, so I made a thread for people to find it easily and directly.

I'll be the judge of how great it is during the PTB. if it's crap, I'll be uninstalling since I wont be able to play the game anymore without great difficulty. Not worth the stress and ive already started playing other games that don't have the same server instability on top of it. My future entertainment via DBD will come from killer's screaming about the over population of SWFs and watching certain streamers if at all.

The PTB version wont be the most updated version.
2 -
I mean, I don't think SC not working on Undetectable should be held off until accessibility options are added, as that particular aspect does not hinge on being HoH or not.

I want to clear something up with regards to Spine Chill.
The perk is going to work exactly as we stated in the Dev Update, with the line of sight requirements...however we are adding a visual indicator for the strength of the terror radius. This is down to the amount of accessibility comments that we have received. This is also not a permanent solution - we are working on accessibility improvements and when something has been implemented, that part of Spine Chill will be removed.
Sorry for the confusion caused around this. And we do agree, it's not ideal for players to have to run a perk in order to play the game.
15 -
Okay so the perk is back to being terrible, I guess.
5 -
Oh! That's way different than I interpreted.
Really happy to hear that a more standard accessibility avenue is in the works!
I guess having it be terror radius based could make Freddy and Dredge benefit way too greatly from it, alongside other obliviousness sources. ...Unless............. 😋
1 -
If it's an accessibility it shouldn't be locked to perk anyway, thus accessibility should not be a reason to keep perk strength.
I'm happy that it's being worked on.
1 -
You're effectively removing the value of this perk to a point where no one will use it. I've been using this perk for 6 years and it will be time to relearn how to play the game.
If the killer need direct line of sight to me won't I see them anyway? Honestly this is probably a fair change for stealth killers - but you effectively deleted this perk.
3 -
So it will only work with LOS again?
1 -
Yes. But we will have a visual indicator of terror radius however it will not be in the PTB, hopefully that will be done before Live.
2 -
My guess is they want to make sure if you bring the perk, you'll know if you're being stalked (or at risk of it)
Plus when it activates now I think it'll be more clear that it's urgent, and not just a warning. Since the flipside interpretation is also that spine chill only activates when the killer can see YOU.
1 -
I don't understand how this is going to help HoH/Deaf players, since most of us only have hearing issues, not visibility issues.
I feel like making it only work with LOS defeat the whole point again and the indicator of the terror radius being strong or not wont help with anything, since we can use your vision to see if the killer is far away or not...
1 -
You can't see every direction at the same time, so no.
0 -
"It's not ideal for players have to run a perk in order to play the game." Yet shadowborn has been run by motion sick players for that reason. Id hope that gets addressed sometime with accessibility.
11 -
When working on a generator there is generally only one "ambush" direction. Watch that direction and ignore the rest.
0 -
The game has plenty of aspect beside generators, so I think this perk has meant to be reworked for those non-generator situations.
0 -
In non generator situations you can stand at a corner and see way too much information as survivor anyway.
0 -
Not to mention that there is pretty much nothing for killers when it comes to deaf players.
1 -
There used to be until they nerfed Stridor. It used to be on all my builds since it helped me a lot at tracking survivors. Only was good for HoH and not deaf players though.
0 -
Will the terror radius indicator be there without LOS requirement or only when killer has LOS?
1 -
It literally makes no sense whatsoever. The devs are so adamant on "changing the meta" that they will completely destroy this perk regardless of feedback
1 -
If it really only works in LOS still it's going to be useless for HOH/Deaf players.
1 -
From my understanding the terror radius part is not connected to the LOS part...which is where it makes the perk accessible for hard of hearing players.
1 -
But if it only lights up when the killer is in LOS, how will it show different strengths of TR when the killer isnt? that's what's confusing to me
0 -
The visual update part will show the strength of the Terror Radius by being paler and then getting stronger.
You're thinking of Spine Chill right now with lighting up etc, not with the proposed change.
1 -
Oh ok, so the LOS indication will be different than the terror radius one
0 -
So if I'm understanding this right (I'm slow, sorry, bear with me), the perk will have two parts when it goes live (hopefully).
It'll light up when the killer has LoS with you AND it'll also change its intensity (which I assume is the brightness of the perk?) on the perk itself depending on the terror radius?
2 -
If that is the case, I'd argue that makes the perk better than before because you can now tell how close the killer is from you based on then intensity and know if they can directly see you or not.
0 -
That makes it worse 🤣. Killers have ways to hide their terror radius.
0 -
So what you're saying is that they should remove those noises from stealth Killers to even the playing field. I can get behind that.
1 -
No it won't light up if the killer has line of sight of you. Your action bar will have the the action speed bonus if the killer is looking directly at you - in Line of Sight.
