If the goal is to balance around 2:2, killers should get 8 perks
This is not a 1 v 1 game, it’s a 4 v 1 game and the 1 should have as much power as the 4 put together.
That said, when survivors have 16 perks at their disposal (some of which DO benefit the squad as a whole, so don’t try to bring “but killer perks affect everyone”) while the killer has only 4, that puts the game in the survivors favor - which exponentially increases when valuable perks are added, such as mom and ff.
By giving killers 8 perk slots, it would probably help bring the ratio to a 2 survive, 2 die more often - which apparently is the golden balance standard for behavior.
This would also allow killers to create more versatile builds, as well as allow the devs room to create more perks to help killers instead of helping killers in the core of the game.
Making perks to help killers play the game is pointless when there are only 4 slots available to them; things will inevitably get sacrificed which just puts killers back in the same position as before.

We need more perk slots for sure
I know im a freak by thinking in +5yrs with 122+ surv perks we need more slots
4 -
this is a terrible idea.
1) Hex: Ruin
2) Hex: Haunted Grounds
3) Hex: Thrill of The Hunt
4) Hex: Devour Hope
5) Hex: No One Escapes Death
6) Barbecue and Chili
7) Whispers
8) Thanataphobia
This seems balanced to you? And this is just off the top of my head, I'm sure you could come up with some even more extremely overpowered builds.
Bait thread detected.

This can be true if 50% of matches all survs escape and 50% of matches you kill all of them. This is what you think happen?
3 -
The game is balanced around 2 escape and 2 sacrificed though.
Eight slots would be OP. Also if you’re up against solo players then it is a 1v1v1v1v1.
9 -
Freddy could get 8 perks slots to make him balanced.
Jokes aside: Yes, this game is unbalanced. But giving the killer more perk slots isn't the solution. It would lead to too powerful perk combinations.
Edit: typo
3 -
8 would be too much, 5 perk slots is cool tho.
2 -
@Andreyu44 Maybe. Ruin is kind of obligatory in the higher ranks. However, with a 2nd objective for survivors, we wouldn't need to think about this. 😐️

8-perk Nurse is a good way to turn Dead by Daylight into Dead by Load-in.
2 -
i dont know if this is a troll or its real
3 -
Hex: Ruin
Hex: Thrill of the Hunt
Hex: Devour of hope
Hex: Haunted grounds
Hex: lullaby
Hex: No one escapes death
Hex: Third seal
BBQ
All as the Nurse or Spirit
3 -
I stopped running hex perks tbh.
They gets destroyed immediately, totems are not hidden at all, lmao.
3 -
You can destroy the totems and that build will leave them perkless. And I believe there are five totems max so three would be useless.
1 -
You're forgetting the 9 free perks with VoIP, so potentially it's 4 vs 13 perks per survivor, combined for 52 perks.
0 -
That's an awful build :-P to many hexes.
0 -
Not smart because you can create this
hex:ruin
Devour
Haunted
NoEd
Sloppy
Thanato
Nurse's Calling
bbq
Run this on nurse and you will see why
1 -
5 maybe. 8 would be ridiculous.
1 -
This would assume that four perks means one kill, which wouldn't be true in the first place. It would also generally hurt build diversity since you would have enough space to run just about all of the best perks, which would get stale sooner or later. The current system limits the number of perks you can equip so you can't become a jack of all trades.
13 -
Lol good joke.
3 -
Don’t forget all the free perks SWF get. Bond, Empathy, etc.
2 -
Me if this ever happened: "Well guess I had to quit playing this game someday huh?" I play both sides and the thing is you increase the available perk slots for one side first off the other side is going to cry to oblivion and second off this won't be fun even more meta perks will be used keep perks where they are
2 -
8 perks no. I think 5 perks for killer would be understandable though.
0 -
You already have more power. Most matches I play end with at least 2 and often 3,4 kills. I'd say it's balanced.
3 -
this game has literally became easy mode for killers who aren't bots. since they kept nerfing solo survivor gameplay with various methods like less pallets and BS hits through windows due to slower vaults and everything.. the game is really easy mode for killers I can say you can play any killer and get a win if you have fundamental knowledge at the game.
more buffs to killers will def make the game unplayable. as its already frustrating to play solo survivor at high ranks atm
2 -
I think there should be more slots for certain killers if there isn’t a perk slot increase for everyone. But if there ever was an increase, the amount of slots in total should never surpass 5.
1 -
That is the most incorrect prediction of killer difficulty I have ever seen. Getting hit through windows? Well yeah the thing is two inches thick and my arms are long enough to hit you THROUGH the window if you’re close enough.
you’re not even mentioning that the pallet stun vacuum is back, and the pallet drop speed is inhuman now. They balanced it out, less pallets, but more guaranteed stuns. You try playing killer to rank 1 and come back when you’re enlightened about how stressful and unfair it feels right now.

You're right. Running 5 hex perks is a terrible idea.
5 -
+1

Making killers have 8 perks by default is a terrible idea, but I have to admit that I would like to run Legion with:
Bloodhound
Sloppy Butcher
Monitor and Abuse
Remember Me
BBQ
Hex: Ruin
Thanataphobia
Nurse's Calling

We dont need 8 slots for perks, some killers with 8 slots will be very OP. But having Ruin as perk, not the Hex: Ruin, could be awesome. Or change speed of gens repairs - its ridiculous now, they pop 3 gens during first hook due to ######### loads of loops and pallets on maps.
Most survivors are spawning in proximity or just at gens, so they start repairs at once. Killer need to reach further gens to start chase which takes around 20-40 seconds depends on Killer and map size. And its 1/4-1/2 of gens done, even if chase and hooking takes around 30-40 seconds - by the time Killer reaches next gen - its done already.
0 -
Well theoretically that’s how it should go. However, the way the game is now, SURVIVORS can run their best perks and effectively be jacks and jills of all trades meanwhile killers must continuously sacrifice parts of their gameplay because there’s no longer enough room with 4 perks to cover the necessities to play a decent game.

Red rank survival rate pre emblem changes below 50% says hi by the way and yet good and or great killers still can 4k most of the time.
0 -
I guess an extra "hex" slot would be interesting, although I feel I saw this discussed somewhere, so if it's destroyed early match (5-30s most times and I run devour hope) you don't lose a perk slot. However that's how hexes are meant to be anyway risk vs. reward. I think 4 is fine as it is, any other problems likely come down to balance and less about builds/killer perk strength to compensate.
0 -
@Peanits Isn't build diversity already an issue since the majority of survivors play the 4 "best" perks anyway?
I remember a past dev stream that highlighted the top perks and their usage %. The numbers were flawed, but after some math adjustment 80+ percent of survivors would use Sprint Burst, Decisive Strike, and/or Self Care with the 4th slot being open.
I have no idea what those numbers look like now, but I doubt they've changed much since then.
I say survivors because some perks are better on some killers but not all, so killers have a much greater diversity of perk usage due to the diverse nature of killers through their powers.

This is so crazy I kinda like it, I probably wouldn't want to actually see it in game though, it would cause too many balance issues
0 -
The thing is you give new mechanic to the survivors in order to combat the killers but you give paid perks to killer to "fix" the problems they have BUT the 4 perk can help with that a 5 slots will be a nice update. OR a better a idea all the surviors and killers get 5 perks but when you are SWF you lose one perk for each survivor ( 2 swf = 4 perks, 3 sef = 3 perks and 4 swf = 2 perks) this will give the solo the help they need and the killer the power the deserve.

I've thought about this in the past and the most balance change I can think of is the killers having 5 perk slots total; 4 Regular and 1 Hex.
Some buffs to totems and hex perks would be needed, like increased time to destroy a Hex Totem, better hidden totems, reworks on some Hexes, etc.
In turn, killers can only use 1 Hex totem per match. This would mean they can have their regular builds with that added "boost" from the Hex Totem, encouraging survivors to do that secondary objective and if they succeed, it wouldn't hurt the killer so badly.
It also means the survivors can make better guesses as to what the Killer's Hex will be, and once they deal with it they know they won't have to deal with another hex for the rest of the match.
Eg: No Ruin? Wait for 3 hooks and see if it's DH. If not, most probably NOED.
The truth is that the nature of this game favors survivors more than killers because comms will grant survivors several "perks" without the need to actually equip them (Kindred, Bond, Empathy, etc.)
This doesn't mean killers can't do well, but it certainly seems overbearing when you (as killer) face a 4 man SWF group that is coordinated with comms and has the same skill level as you (I know this cause I've done it as SWF).
The most fun I have in this game is when I'm actually scared and afraid of going down against killers like Nurse or Spirit. Other killers are just a repetition of: Get Found>Chase>Loop until BL3 or they give up>Go back to Gens.
The Chase can be fun when mindgames are involved, but it does get stale very quickly and aside from the chase, the game as survivor is pretty dang boring right now.
0 -
And the killer should move at 400% movement speed, cause there are four survivors with 100% speed.
2 -
Wait shouldn't it be 1600% speed since they've got 16 perks, despite always being accused of always running the same 4 meta perks.
Introducing the new and improved Nurse, she's evolved so much she put's even Billy to shame. That's right folks you're guaranteed to 4k in every match and if you can't well you can always play Civ 5.
