What happened during the Howling Grounds event?

I've seen multiple killers mention peak toxicity during this event and yet when I reflect on my matches during the event I can only recall one such occasion. Can anyone enlighten me on the toxicity that transpired during that event? Why specifically were survivors toxic at this time?

During the initial bit of it things were fine. But then halfway through it the Devs altered flashlights and pallet slams so that the stuns would release picked up survivors immediately after the pick up animation was complete. I believe this was also the period of time where the nurse was getting double stunned after successful hits on survivors. So after that patch hit you had multiple last second swapper teams bent on just being dicks. That or sabo teams going out of their way to break every holiday hook in play to prevent the killer from being able to use them. Flip side you also had killers camping and tunneling, but I didn't go for the survivor skin until after so we were WELL into the Howling Grounds at that point.

The caveat ofcourse being that even though killers would camp people, as long as their teammates were working generators the hooked person would still get tokens. A full sabo or flashlight team could have full red envelopes played and prevent the killer from ever getting a hook.

Do not forget all the BNPs for the lunar gens. I think another reason why they get nerfed now is because of the upcoming summer event.
What me personally triggered the most back then were the „balance“ changes they released. It was so triggering that I only unlocked the cosmetics and stopped playing, until they reverted it.
Yeah I quit until the event was over as well. I think that was around the time one of the devs said "If you don't like the changes play another game."

Both sides were being toxic to each other. Killers camping lunar gens and survivors saboing lunar hooks. Nobody played for fun, it was pretty much just who can bully the other side the most

It was awful. Killers were camping the lunar gens. Survivors were sabotaging the lunar hooks. Toxicity on both sides. Brought out the worst in the community. At least on PS4 it did. Did not enjoy that event.

It was a damn disaster for this reason alone. I tried my hardest to make sure the Survivors did the Lunar Gens. I camped the ######### out of the Gens that weren’t Lunar. Just to make sure they got the Lunar ones. I wanted the Donkey Jacket myself, but after 15 matches in a row, I gave up even trying. I felt terrible for Survivors.

Though I know the only reason I got the Huntress Mask was because I clearly gave the Survivors a “Let’s farm and do Lunar stuff!” signal. I tried normally just playing and after getting 3 Lunar Hooks in 20 games, I knew farming was the only way I was getting that mask. The tool boxes and people running Saboteur was a nightmare.

Toxcity was at an all time high on both sides. Even after I got the mask, I still kept farming with Survivors to help them get Lunar Gens. Next time, they need to make it so ALL hooks and Gens count, not just special ones. That was a disaster.

I think this year anniversary event was worse cause never got to experience it with new content if were from north america. I had a million bloodpoints to put in clown and had to skip event to not gain useless 0 bloodpoints.

Thank you all for your feedback. I had seen multiple killer mains shivering while speaking about this event and wanted to understand their plight.

I remember the event fondly as aside from one game at Autohaven Wreckers vs a Myers I never saw a single sabotage of an event hook. Most of the folks I met all wanted to farm coins. The most toxic person I met was a killer that watched the survivors I was with offer 4 red envelopes then immediately disconnect taunting "rip your offerings".

Right from the beginning, players were constantly getting disconnected and the Killers that could play a 4v1 had to deal with the broken flashlights and pallets. It was braindead easy to make a save. All you had to do was drop a pallet or blind the Killer during the pickup animation, and the Killer would drop the Survivor once the pickup animation was over. It thankfully got patched out quickly (I think within a week at the most, same thing with the constant DCs). However, those were not the only problems. This event brought out the worst in the DbD community. Killers would camp lunar gens and Survivors would sabotage lunar hooks in order to deny one side their coins. Unfortunately these issues were not addressed at all by BHVR, meaning that you would have to hope that you didn't get jerks that would purposefully try to deny the other side their coins. I remember getting extremely lucky as Killer and not running into a lot of Survivors who sabotaged my lunar hooks. I ran into one who tried to sabo my lunar hook as I got closer to it, but he had just started, so I was able to get my coin. My only major problem with the event was a personal problem, and it was a power outage that happened near the end of the event. Thankfully, my power was restored the last day of the event and I got the Huntress mask.
