Hatch standoffs are sorta back
I’ve been noticing a lot lately that killers and survivors just sit on the hatch waiting for the other to come. I had a 30 minute stand off because I decided to dedicate myself this time. I do two gens, cleanse a totem, look for a key but don’t find one so I just snuck to the hatch and the spirit messed up by phasing since I heard her footsteps and ran to it.
I escaped and double pipped but admittedly I didn’t really earn anything extra. Yes, it was my choice to do this but it does get annoying how common it has become.
*edit: I couldn’t do the gens since three were near the hatch.

also killers who refuse to close the hatch till they see a millisecond of movement I wish left behind was a base kit thing

I would rather just slug for a few seconds and look around the immediate area or just patrol the gates. It's a waste of time and BP'S to wait that long as a killer.

This is what would’ve happened but she messed up and I beat her to it.

She slugged the other person to near-death looking for me and then I had to wait out their hook phase.

That's not what I mean. I mean more like I did on the Pig video with Meg and found Feng on the box. I tend to do that if there not around I just hook them and take my chances.

I had a 45 min hatch standoff with a Ghostface on the game map. My friend waited for me to join her SWF. she played 3 matches and she was like ######### is going on. I was still in the game just stood by the door waiting until he finally decided to close it and I got out.

I get what you mean now.

As a killer for me it's not worth the time investment. I dont really care if I get that fourth person, I've already won even if they escape due to a flawed mechanic. I dont have time to slug looking for the fourth person or to sit on the hatch and hope they come running up to me. Who cares really?

I feel a lot of people consider that behavior slugging yet haven't really been slugged like your fellow survivor was. The difference between downing someone for pressure and downing someone to slug is astronomical.
2 -
If its on a timer that also means that perk where within so many meters you see the hatch aura, that perk would be a very decent perk in solo play.

I dont get it, why did the spirit not just close the hatch #########? There was no point in holding the hatch open lol
3 -
Some killers need to be 200% sure they will 4k .. like why would you do this is you are a high movement speed killer
4 -
Wait so the Spirit found the hatch but didn't close it for thirty minutes?
That sounds more like a problem with the killer than anything.
The "standoffs" I tend to see are when 2 survivors are left and both go into hiding waiting for the other to die so they can make a play for the hatch. But once the hatch actually shows up and it's a 1v1 there are no standoffs the game ends very quickly after.
I don't know if the situation I described has become enough of a problem for everyone here, but in my experience it's pretty rare for it to drag on long enough to be a problem. Killer will usually find one survivor or the other soon enough.
And I don't participate in these unless I just felt bad all day and really need a win. I usually sneak around doing gens or other stuff, I am always still trying to win without going into full immersion mode. But I'm a lot more cautious, if I feel the killer is coming I slink away and move to another gen to work on that. If killer catches me so be i. Usually he will, it is almost impossible to finish all gens when there are only 2 of you left and there's more than 1 gen left to do.

He isn't, you can always let the killer kill you to end the game. And you can try jumping in the hatch if he doesn't wanna hit you. Either way, the game can still end normally.

Sounds still stupid, as spirit you can easily phasewalk from gate to gate. Especially when the gate are close to each other.
2 -
Wait i'm a little confused, if the killer is sitting on the open hatch camping. Why not open a door?
0 -
Because gens still need to be done
6 -
Ah of course. I forgot the gates don't activate till after the hatch is closed. I've always instantly closed it (when i can actually find the damn thing).
0 -
That too. :)

The gameplay around the hatch would be a lot more relaxed if there wouldn't be such a big difference point-wise between a 3k and 4k.
0 -
Is there? I've been deliberately letting the last survivor go during double bloodpoints.
And then getting hit with "ez noob killer".
2 -
Oh yeah, I used to play a lot more generous as a killer. But since it apparently isn't appreciated, I don't do that a lot anymore. And I'm not the only one: One year ago, I got gifted with the hatch on a regular basis. Nowadays, that happens super rarely.

You aren’t really gaining points by standing on the hatch for thirty minutes.

Endgame is better, but could still do with tweaking. Slugging for the 4k is insanely boring and drags matches on for 10 additional minutes at times. I'm also seeing survivors not even attempt exit gates once hatch is closed. Then there are hatch standoffs that still exist. The problem could be rectified to an extent if killers automatically pipped on a hatch escape.

There is no excuse for a hatch stand off now. If the killer wants to sit on the hatch waiting for the last survivor then the last survivor can go work on a gen. If the killer wants to continue sitting on the hatch, keep finishing gens until you can open the exit gate. Complaining about hatch stand offs now is the equivalent of complaining about hurting your eyes watching a solar eclipse w/o proper eye wear. You have the tools, you just aren't using them.

I remember playing as Ghostface, finding the hatch, and hiding behind a tree for awhile. The last survivor was a Bill, and there was a gen that was 99% done and right next to an exit gate on the other side of the map. This was before the left behind rework, so I was wondering if he would actually be smart and tap the generator and just leave. Nope, sure enough, I see whispers turn on and he's sprinting over. Then he got angry and called me a hatchcamper even though I left a very viable exit totally open, lol

What lol
1 -
He says he has to slug for the 4k to earn a pip. Otherwise he wouldn't bother as he doesn't like the mechanic.
0 -
So basically some people are complaining that a killer is camping the hatch when a perfectly viable counter exists that could discourage the behavior.
Why do I feel like we've had this discussion about something else before......
1 -
I havn't seen what you described , but since servers became a thing and killers are not able to interrupt jumps via closing anymore , a new version of stand offs beggings : killer stands in the middle of the hatch to bodyblock survivor from jumping and waits till they go away so he can safely close it . A friend of mine stood 20 min as a survivor in this kind of stand off until his Internet died .
1 -
Why didn't he do a gen?
0 -
So your solution is to complete a gen (basically sending a flair to say where you are) so the killer can then close the hatch and go straight for you as they now know where you are?
0 -
It takes time to get to that gen - in that time you can be making yourself invisible
I used to do this with the old hatch mechanics - make a noise at a gen to force the killer to leave the hatch, then use a detoured route to get to the hatch while they are investigating.
0 -
He was with the killer at the hatch , if he would walk a few steps from the hatch killer would've closed it and chased him down .
0 -
The killer could have done it from the get go.
What did your friend expect was gonna happen?
Better take your chances running away
0 -
Either you play in the pre EGC patch , or just trolling , how you supposed to open exit gates when killer right behind you ? I'm not complaining that it's unfair , I just can't understand why you act/are so ignorant
1 -
I just don't understand your friends decision making there.
If the killer is on top of the hatch and has seen you, what can you possibly gain by staying there doing nothing?
If the killer doesn't wanna close the hatch and go after you, leave. At least there's a chance you could lose him in that scenario. Staying there is just a waste of time.
0 -
Cause when killer closes it he loses collision allowing survivor to jump , that's what my friend wanted to do .
0 -
cant you just do gens?...I don't get it
0 -
exactly @Dreamnomad
0 -
If the survivors jumps just before the killer starts closing it, it will close before he falls.
After he starts closing it? No chance. The closing animation is shorter.
0 -
Due to servers it's possible for survivor to get through , probably it's because killer , me and my friend are from Russia while servers are in EU
0 -
Oh servers... yeah ok. I don't really know how they interact with anything.
Isn't russia part of the EU?
0 -
Would that work?
My experience is that's not what happens now. I've been at the hatch as a killer with a survivor standing on it a number of times and I've always been able to close it before they can get in. Even last night I had a survivor teabagging on the hatch before it opened since they seemed to think that they could hop in first. They had a fun surprise after that.
I assumed that killer always wins in this situation so never tried as a survivor.

@Dreamnomad Three gens were near the hatch.@NoShinyPony You aren’t really gaining points by standing on the hatch for thirty minutes.
0 -
Three gens were near the hatch.
0 -
I'm not sure about their exact location , but if we allege that they are in Paris it means that there are about 2800 km away from Central Federal District meaning that latency will be a thing . For Russian players .
0 -
As I said above , it probably happens because of latency .
0 -
And that is why people shouldn't idolize streamers.
