Does Dark Sense count as a beginner perk?

For me, Dark Sense is basically BBQ & Chili for survivors. It can help me know where the killer is heading when I fix a generator, so I don’t accidentally run into him. I’ve been using Dark Sense in every build since I started the game, so I can’t really tell if it’s counted as good or not because I’m used to it.

As a matter of fact I also use spine chill. My build is Dark Sense, Spine Chill, Iron Will and This is Not Happening

I think the idea of certain perks being "beginner perks" is not a good way to think about it.

Take Windows of Opportunity, as an example. A lot of people go "Oh, that's a good perk for newbies because it lets them learn where to loop." But you never hear anyone talk about how useful it continues to be -- regardless of how many hours you've put in -- for the feedback it gives you on which areas you should stay away from later in the game (after all the pallets have been used).

I think the new Dark Sense is much more broadly useful than the perk used to be.

Personally I would ditch This Is Not Happening. Spine Chill and Iron Will are great perks and Dark Sense is pretty good, too. But TINH has very little actual benefit for taking up a whole slot. Since it seems like you favor a stealth/killer location awareness build I might suggest Bond or Empathy, Lightweight, maybe Quick and Quiet..

I run dark sense still lmao. I just like seeing where not to go after finishing a hen.

I'd call it more stealth than beginner, although stealth does tend to appeal to beginners more. If you really enjoy not getting caught, though, it's a solid choice.

Very beginner friendly, but certainly not useless at any rank.

Though the more action-oriented Survivors won't care much for it.

Exactly! Because back the When I didn’t use it, I’d accidentally run into the killer after fixing a gen :|

Alert is more useful (and, importantly, useful more often) in telling you where the killer is at a given time. Between the two, I would run Alert rather than Dark Sense easily.

But Alert itself is in turn inferior to Empathy. Empathy at the highest 3rd tier provides a wealth of information at huge distance (128m, that's nearly the whole map even for larger maps) telling you:

    • which of your teammates is injured and may need healing
    • which of your teammates is injured and running from the killer (dropping pallets, vaulting, etc)
    • the above also tells you where the killer is at the given moment (so basically Alert)
    • often useful for getting an idea if anyone injured is running to unhook or you should do it
    • locations of gens being worked on by injured teammates

    etc.

Empathy is god-tier in information perks, after trying it I'm never turning back.

I don't know, aura perks only grant as much use as your understand of the game. beginners, sure, can see the killer with Dark Sense...but they have 0 clue what to do with that information.

Most beginner's would see that information and not move a muscle, which is an issue in and of itself, but i digress.

Knowing what to do with information is a skill and therefore means that aura perks aren't truly beginner perks.
