Maps that are indoors...

So, being relatively new to the game, or just being casual, how do I stop myself from getting lost in indoor maps?

And is there a way to see where generators are? Like in outdoor maps I can see the lights, but inside...I just run like a rat in a maze (to be fair, the rat would probably get out, I've literally gotten lost looking for an open exit gate before)

There are only two perks that can help you find gens indoors. They are Detectives Hunch and Deja Vu.

I don't recommend either. Better to just get used to running around the map.

Exit gates, just hug the walls til you get out.

If you are desperate use the Map item to help you find your way.

Have like 1k hours in the game, took me about 400h to learn all maps. even the indoor ones INCLUDING the new map (Hawkins) but still can't figure out Lery's. Pallets and gens are so RNG based in that map, and all rooms are very similar.

For finding generators on Hawkins or the game, you can look for closed doors. If you see one, there must be a generator nearby, either in the room you are standing or in the room behind that door. Powering this generator will open the closed door.

In Hawkins there are two gens that you can find easy: one on the second floor in the office rooms (1man gen) and one where the portal to the upside down is, on top of the glass room.

On Lerry's there's always a gen in the middle and sometimes one in the office/library room.

It will take a while to learn the maps. I have about 750 hours and still get lost on the game map, the whole thing just looks the same for me.

On all indoor maps the gates spawn always in the same variation, they are always opposite each other in the middle of a side of the map. But even I struggle sometimes with 2k hours to find gens in indoor maps, the best way to kind of get not lost is, try to keep some specific loops or places in mind.

For an example at the game, keep in mind where the "ice room" downstares is, near to it is mostly the basement. Above the basement is always the "pig room" with those 2 ultra save pallets. Or the big drop down window is always in the opposite of the basement. The same goes to the underground complexe, but on doctors map there are almost no points that are unique that makes it hard to keep in mind where you are on the map.

I have more than 1000 in-game hours, and I still get lost in The Game (mostly downstairs) and Lery's.

I really dislike Hawkins' design (all the narrow corridors and how NOISY it is), but its layout has been easier for me to get used to, compared to those other two maps.

You could run bond to find other survivors
