Can I have accounts on the Windows Store and Steam?

I would like to play with some friends that now have access to DbD through gamepass. I have gamepass as well.
Is there a way to link my friends lists for cross-play/Can I make a new account on the Windows store without causing issues with my Steam account?

Switching accounts wont affect your previous account. So if you were to login through Windows Store copy of the game you would use your Microsoft account as login I am assuming. So it's separate from Steam and you would have to start fresh.
