stop saying use X perk to counter Y
this isnt leauge of legsnds. survivors cant see what the killer is or the perks theyre using and change their build accordingly at a chance that they actually get that killer. that isnt counter play, thats rolling a slot machine and praying the build im using is viable vs the killer ar hand currently. this is also why most survivors stick to the hard meta builds (adren,ds etc) because they dont know what theyre up against or if theres a mori.
again. SAYING RUN X PERK TO COUNTER Y ISNT VIABLE

Agree, the logic that using a specific perk to counter anything you can't specifically plan for is absurd.

You are just refusing to adapt!!! Stop crying you entitled survivor main!!!
I'm writing this before somebody else does.

This isn't anything new. Idk if people who say this think DbD is like Overwatch where you can react to what your opponents are doing and swap heroes on demand.

BT is run in case the killer tunnels, or you just want to unhook in killers face.
DS is used to prevent tunneling, or just being a douche and charging the killer after unhook to save a friend.
Not every killer camps and tunnels.
Adrenaline only procs when gens are done meaning its only good if you make it to end game.
So mostly perks are run to make sure adrenaline procs.
Spine chill is effective against every single killer. Yes it's more useful against certain killers but all of them are going to look at you so it's going to be useful ALL game.
Iron will is also effective against all killers as most of them will track by sound. Yes spirit is required to track by sound due to her power. But sound is a huge part of the game.
IW and SC help you get to endgame against every killer. So, whats the problem?

This seems to be a survivor sided post (references to mori). However, I would propose this problem (not being able to pick perks to counter other side) goes twofold. Both sides lack some information. Although, it would be in your best interest to always prepare for the worst (Killer: Meta spirt, Survivors: Meta SWF etc.). All in all, both sides do lack some information (survivors more than killers because it's 4v1), but this spices up the game.
Tl;Dr both sides lack Information, but this can spice up the game.

Agreed. I get that people are mostly trying to be helpful when they say stuff like that, but some people get really obtuse. I've had people tell me to run Hangman's Trick when I've mentioned coordinated sabo not having a real counter. I have 1000 hrs. I'm aware that the perk exists...

Prepare for the worst but everything needs a way to be kept in check

This is the dev's fault. They keep fixing in-game problems with perks instead of working on the actual game mechanics. They've basically made it so that if a player has an issue with the game, the expected solution is to run a perk. You have four slots to fill, so pick your four biggest issues and fix 'em with perks!

Just run iron will, spine chill, urban evasion and quick and quiet to counter spirit 4Head

Those are all good perks against all killers. Also, just because they help doesn't mean you even need them.

But running X perk to counter Y ( aka running Ruin or PGTW to counter gen rush or BBQ to counter the grind ) was killers life style from beta.

urban is not a good perk....

I think the difference is that Hangmans Trick is in 99% of scenarios trash. So the survivors telling you that just isn't realistic on their part. Where as most the "counter perks" people are typically referring to in reference to Spirit for example are actually all around decent perks in most scenarios, against most killers. I think they are two very different scenarios.

Yes, it is.

LMAO god help me

Takes practice to know how to utilize it properly.

It has saved me a lot if I choose to use it.

Urban helps you to hide from the killer when they're really close and you're a lot harder to see from a distance when crouching.

This thread is cool because it works either way with killers and survivors as well. And it's funny when people says that you use a perk of a DLC like you purchased every DLC or have 1K hours in-game.
From the survivor's side you will hear:
Gen rush? Use ruin (DLC I think it's free on consoles though), Corrupt Intervention (DLC) and PGTW (DLC)
The survivors blinds you? Use lightborn and franklin's demise (Paid DLC)
The survivors loops you? Use bamboozle (DLC) and spirit fury (DLC)
And git gud...
From the killer's side you will hear:
Spirit? Run spine chill, premonition and Iron Will (so you need those three perks JUST in case you face a spirit)
The killer is camping ? Use Borrowed Time (it's funny because if you're the one getting camped you need that another surv run it)
The killer is tunneling you? Use Decisive Strike (Paid DLC)
Now that I am seeing it, all the meta perks for survivors are from the base game.

No one should feel compelled to run any perk all the time. That's why I hated the old pallet break time and Brutal Strength, that's why I hated how amazing self care was, and that's why I kinda hate the existence of BBQ. Each one of those perks were/are so useful that they felt like a perk you needed to use, and it would be stupid to not use them unless you didn't have it.
I don't ever want to take BBQ off because then I'll only get half the progression I would normally. I can't play killer without it because It'll feel like a complete waste of time. I can't experiment with many fun killer builds because there are still so many people I need to level and prestige, and I would much rather have the BP bonus from BBQ and WGLF be baseline so that no one feels compelled to run them all the time.

urban evasion is good ? maybe if your a rank 15 Claudette or nea

Maybe just try running things other than the "meta build" and start learning how to adapt to different situations?

I always run random perks basically borrowed time and 3 random ass ones

I mean, that's kind of the point though is that it's a gamble. Killers can't tell what perks Survivors run either, whether that key is green, purple or pink, that box has a brand new part. All players roll the dice and hope they're build will be helpful.
And b4 people scream Killer has better advantage, again, kind of the point

i came up with a build to counter all killers :
- Spine Chill : stealth killers + Spirit
- Urban Evasion : Hag, Spirit, Trapper, work on everyone else aswell
- Prove Thyself : Plague + Ruin
- Empathy : Plague + Legion

That's understandable, it takes some people longer to learn how to use it properly.
