Question on the rift and new DLC chapters
@Peanits now that DBD has gone with a free to play monetization model with the rift pass, does this mean all future chapters(including licensed characters) will be free and unlocked right away?
If not has there been any talk on the subject?

Short answer no. Long answer nothing has been announced. And I doubt it would. The game might have gotten a Battlepass, but this doesn't mean F2P. Just an additional monetization methods besides new DLC releases and the cosmetic shop. But since they've added the shop, they've made it possible to unlock original Characters via shards. I doubt anything will change about this model. DbD is a gaas after all. People are activly working on it for quite some time. And that costs money.

Why would they make new stuff that they worked on free? I mean i'm sure you can buy non-licensed things with shards when they come out but why would you want it to be just free? Not even free to play games have that.

No future dlcs won't be free. They'll be free if you use shards as always unless its licensed.

Believe me I already know the answer, and I understand how the current game works. I just think it's bad form to charge you like the do in free to play but unlike F2P they are not just giving you the content.
I will admit I may be wrong on how F2P works. I avoid those games because I find them extremely unfun with everything being locked behind a paywall or being extra grindy . Also I understand paying for skins. That is a legitimate way for funding a live service. I just don't like having to buy fake currency.
And yes you can say " but you can unlock original character with shards," but the reason they are locked in the first place is to get money out of the people that have to have it right away.

This is not F2P monetization, it's just another layer of money to be spent on exclusive content. Nothing new here.
