The only people who complain about free exclusives are
Are those who just realised that they made a very dumb decision to buy them for huge amount of money. They have difficulties to admit that to themselves, therefore they project their mistake towards the devs to feel better.
I'm not talking about event exclusives, that's obviously a different discussion.

It isn’t all about their lack of judgment paying highly scalped prices for a digital item.
They want to feel special and different.

A lot of people enjoy having a valuable item for being a supporter of the game at that time, which is usually what exclusives are for. Exclusives generate a lot of value for people who take a risk and do things to earn them. Sure, some people may have bought them, but that's not everyone. I'm sure it's frustrating because giving everyone free exclusives decreases their value; it reduces a player's uniqueness. A lot of us strive for uniqueness in games.
Ultimately, though, BHVR is doing the right thing, because as long as those codes still exist, there will be scammers ripping people off. By giving away these items they're definitely going to stop those scams.

What I don't understand is the devs' logic behind having no more exclusives in the game when there are still a good handful of cosmetics that are unobtainable/exclusive after the change. Plus, any cosmetic in the current rift will become exclusive once it closes and the next opens.
Double standard, much?

I still don't get the reason why people buy cosmetics. They don't grant any advantage. Personally I only buy DLCs with money

And people that have won tournaments with exclusive prizes and now every casual is gonna have them. Spent 4 weeks to play with my team in a tournament against 20+ teams, won and each of us got PAX codes and apparently that will mean nothing rn, cool. Literally the people that like the change are casuals that had no chance of getting good at the game and getting the exclusives themselves.

This happened in other game, people cried, people moaned, the tears where flowing much like in here. Around 2 days after they released nobody cared.
To conclude, people like to cry and moan about nothing. Its gamers nowadays.

"supporter"? The money went straight into the resellers pockets. Bhvr had nothing from that since it was giving out for free in the first place.
5 -
As far as I know every cosmetic from the rift pass becomes available in the shop after some time.

What tournament?

You realize thousands of codes were given for completely free on a website a couple years ago?
I like the change. I have 5k hours in the game, played since beta, and have most of the exclusives.
You’re just salty, and a bit entitled.

Didn't they say rift cosmetics would go on the store
1 -
Yes, they will come to the store eventually. They said it was 6 months minimum, but they are looking to keep them exclusive for a year. Seasonal rewards will be exclusive until it fits (like the Blight Nurse).

Rift cosmetics come to the store

I'm only complaining about the howling grounds and the bbq cosmetics becoming available for everyone. I like that the other cosmetics are becoming available for everyone tho.

And console players that were never given the opportunity

Are people who dont feel special anymore and above others anymore and if they really want to support devs they can go to ingame store spend hundreds of dollars like me that actually go in devs hands not some dodgy sites third party scammers I love behaviour and these decisions they make just for these entilted salty people that cry over few shirts and pants :)

WLADO93's 2nd DBD Tournament, Jurinko's 4v1 Tournament, The Entity's Curse, many Rite of Ignitions, worked so hard for them and now everybody is gonna have them :)

I'm on console and never got the chance to get codes for that platform. I've been around that game for so long that i could have gotten the Huntress mask and the david jacket. I've gotten both items from the scorched bbq event. And you are throwing me in a pot with ppl who play that game for less then a year?
This is just a step to unite us all and not to show off with special cosmetics and get tunneled because you own golden feng.
3 -
Soooo, all of them were custom tournaments from "random" people of the community? Sorry to say, but you earned nothing. These weren't official tournaments from bhvr. These codes were free in the first place.
3 -
Bhvr doesn't really host tournaments themselves, they only give codes for the tournament hosts
0 -
Why do people keep thinking BHVR is somehow responsible for, and should honor, players who got their cosmetic through a 3rd party? While its cool you won a tournament, literally no one cares that you won cosmetic codes from it when it wasn't an official BHVR-run tournament, especially since you think that winning said 3rd party tournament, that most players haven't even heard of by the way, earns you some entitlement to said cosmetics.
3 -
At least we have earned those cosmetics by versing and winning against high skilled players, not have them given to us for free like all the casual players.
0 -
You realize that you are in the minority right? That most of the players who have the cosmetics aren't players who played in, and won, 3rd party tournaments or beat "high skilled" players?
Are you saying the "casuals" who got the code originally also don't deserve the cosmetics? Are you really so self-centered that you think your definition of "casuals" defines who and who is not worthy of getting something?
The cosmetics are the property of BHVR. You do not own them and BHVR can do what they want with them. Sorry you feel the need to have a tantrum over losing your "exclusivity".
5 -
So what? They're cosmetics. Repeat cosmetics. They don't give players any new advantages. They don't give them access to gameplay or characters that nobody else has.
Whether you got yours from a tournament or a gift or won it in a raffle doesn't matter.
2 -
The codes do not support the game since BHVR didn't sold them
1 -
Not sure if this was an official DBD contest but I think it was. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was trying to cover a variety of approaches for advertising in that comment, including indirect support via collaboration and whatnot. Steam wouldn't be able to issue codes for in-game items for a game they didn't create. Steam is a broker, more or less.
The point is that by offering people exclusive things it encourages them as well as others to come to the game. The items are a token of appreciation so to speak, and to give them away reduces the value of that token. But, considering the scams, it's something BHVR should do.

lmao YES exactly 100% nail on the head got it score
imagine getting "exclusive" or "rare" cosmetics just to feel better than others. cosmetics are there to look good, that's it, anyone who pays huge amounts of money just because something is "rare" or "limited time offer" just feel prey to scarcity sale tricks, they're too impulsive and they are paying for it out of their ego now too lol
we should be happy EVERYONE is getting cool new cosmetics to play with, less defaults running aroudn nwo
2 -
problem is most of them optained non money related, all those grind and visit somewhere to got things can't be ignored by any direction "from devs" if you get my points
0 -
Doesn't change the fact that these codes were for free.
0 -
Sorry but I disagree, I have none of the items, no legacy no other event stuff.
People earned it and it is okay that way. Why they are giving away for nothing is kinda strange. I would be pissed as well tbh. I mean idk, maybe back then made a decision to grind for those items or whatever instead of doing something they wouldve prefered.
I think generalizing about a whole group of people because they have an opinion or issue is bigot to say the least.

good to see normal person like react about "free for everyone"
im the same with you but i grinded recent event skins, so mostly i getting i didn' had but still devs knew about open markets and people grind from their time limited events or came at official events,
why devs ignoring those people first before even this being controversy and fight each other?
of course gaining people like you and me can blindly support devs but this is not how liberty works even if its small, and theres people really serious about this they looked even funny for me don't you
0 -
Well you know it is pretty easy to make people happy, i mean obviously way more people wanted those skins than the people that actually bought those. Now BHVR gives them this for free so yeah screaming against it will always result in more people sayin why you mad about it?
I just feel it is bad to ignore the people that in my opinion are rightfully angry about it.

Dude you compleeeetely missed the topic. I was nowhere talking about event cosmetics. I'm talking about these exclusives which were given away for free from bhvr and then sold by 3rd parties. Pls, read the complete post carefully before responding
0 -
Man come on honestly? They didn't seperate the issue in the update and said event cosmetics were included in that stuff they give away for free. So sorry I assumed you talking about was also including the event cosmetics but they are so urgh
0 -
I don't really care much for exclusives although I don't mind them. I would really like more cosmetics you can earn by unlocking through gameplay. The challenges in the archives are on the right path but I'd like more earnable cosmetics. The rift imo doesn't count as it's based on length of time in a game rather than effort.

LOL

Too true

It really depends on the scenario i mean look at overwatch and breast cancer mercy they said the main reason that skin isnt coming back for free is why give it to people who didnt donate money to the foundation. And i found that as a pretty cool thing you donated 15 dollars to breast cancer awareness and you got a skin thats probably never coming back. It really depends on the scenario.
