Why are people freaking out about Tome III?

Before you think about anything beyond the title, yes it's grindy. And Tome IV won't be much better.

This said, people have still been over exaggerating already. I do want everyone to enjoy this game, I love it and would prefer if everyone else feels the same! Keep in mind:

-You do not need to complete every challenge and especially difficult one to progress onto Tome IV

-You have a month and a half to get these done

-The whole rift system and archives are here as additional things to do, these did not exist previously! You only profit with BPs and cosmetics from their existence for just playing!

-Its more efficient to play X games over 30 days than to play X games in a week, you get a daily bonus to rift progress ever day you login and play.

-Most of the challenges are essentially 'just play the game normally'

-There is a new DC punishment system set to release to punish people who'll DC because they can't complete a difficult challenge in one game. You'll see DCs less often as they will not be able to queue up.

To those of you who do not have much time to play DbD or just don't play much, you are very likely to not get this stuff done, that's just how it goes unfortunately.

PS I made the title what it is I'm conjunction with my earlier post pre-Tome III

EDIT: The devs have made an announcement that they have heard everyone's issues and are adjusting Tome III, this means they will likely also adjust Tome IV similarity!

I think the reason people like myself are complaining is because they bought into a battle pass under the assumption that they could complete it through regular gameplay.

It takes 8000XP to go up 1 tier, that's about 13 games. For one tier

A lot of the challenges in the tomes are easy enough but there is a few ridiculous challenges that are next to impossible during normal gameplay.

Unless you buy tiers it seems unlikely you will finish the rift if you don't complete all challenges. The thought of endlessly grinding just to redeem 10 peso's worth of content is throwing me off even playing this game at all. A lot of other games have more user friendly battle passes implemented.

Most people complained about how the first time was too easy and how they blew through it in a day and a half. Now people are complaining that the challenges are much more of a grind that they will have to go out of their way to achieve. I'll agree that some of the challenges, especially the egc ones, are bs, but none of them are impossible.

So far tome 2 looks to be the best, 1 was way too easy and 3 looks pretty tough. Hopefully the egc ones get changed.

I think that if they removed or changed the EGC/luck-based challenges, a lot of the complaints would disappear.

Another complaint I'm hearing is that people are seeing a lot of the same builds over and over again. The person doing it is seeing it as an achievable grind, sure, but the person going against it for multiple games in a row can get burnt out. I can see that. I think instead, they could add challenges equal to that difficulty, but just add more of them while lowering the requirement, and also, rewards.

One problem I've been reading about is how these challenges encourage unhealthy gameplay that isn't fun to go against or play with. You know, tunneling, hook-farming, and so on.

I hate that it's changing the way people play. I normally get a bunch of saves every game. It seems most people are happy to sit on gens and play it safer, and I like going for rescues and getting chased. I've had several games where I make literally every save because no one else tries. This first challenge? I can barely get a save in five games now. People are not doing gens, they're just running empathy and getting saves for the challenge. I have now stopped going for saves and just stay on gens since 99% of people only care about challenges and not even trying to win games. Killers play differently too because of the challenges. It's just making the game less fun for me and I'm probably not the only one.

  • I like the ones that work sort of like advertisements for underused perks. I dislike the ones that encourage players to play scummy just to finish the quests asap

There's also the fact that lore and the collectibles are locked behind these challenges. I could play for a year and never see two people unhooked by the same person in the EGC safely. Either they go down, or the person unhooking does.

Same with flashlight saves, they're so incredibly rare that expecting everyone to be able to do one without saboutaging 50+ matches is insane.
