Why does every Youtuber mispronounce Coulrophobia
Title. Everyone says Clorophobia instead of Coulrophobia.

This happens with a lot of words... some people say youtubers names incorrectly because a lot of people just say it like that, it really does stick when you hear it pronounced incorrectly so many times... that, or it mostly has to do with them either not hearing the word that much OR that's just how they pronounce it.
Most people say "Clorophobia" instead of Coulrophobia because that's how a lot of people hear it when it's referenced... misconceptions like that can really follow along for awhile.

Because people aren't bothered to read words properly.
The amount of people that constantly misspell "tome" as "tomb" depresses me.

But to totally swap two sounds? I understand if they are dyslexic how that would happen, but every single one of them pronounces it that way. I think one person mispronounced it, then everyone else just pronounced it the way they heard that guy say it.

Imagine.
Idk anyone that says "tome" as "tomb" but I guess I haven't been listening around that much...

It's all over the forums, whenever someone makes a topic about it. I assume the confusion happens because people don't know what the word "tome" actually means, similarly to how people mispronounce "colrouphobia" because they don't know the word so to them it's just sounds.

It could also be because nobody says it correctly... so everyone just says it like that.
That, or nobody wants to bother looking up the proper pronounceation, either one...

It's pronounced exactly how it's spelled though.

Probably because most people have only seen it written and not spoken.
Also the fact that it is a "fear of CLowns" people will want to pronounce it "CLourophobia".
That said I can't pronounce it right either 😥

i think in any language there are words you dont know how to pronounce, that seems like tongue twisters. Maybe you had it right on coulrophobia but might get wrong another word

I have to pronounce things correctly for my job, but some words have multiple correct pronunciations depending on dialect. "Crick" and "creek" for example. But that's different. I think this mispronunciation just stems from the game of telephone.
Edit: meant dialect, not dialogue.

But the way it's spelled has the L being the third phoneme, not the second like people pronounce it.

might be they are lazy and pronounce it as it comes but anyway some diphthongs maybe be difficult to figure out how to pronounce them, I have seen such things aside from dbd and coulrophobia thats why

The common mispronunciation of "No Mither" is the one that gets me.
Although I was referring to one map as "Grim Panties" for way too long before I actually bothered to read it properly.

Thanks to your comment, I realised I have been pronouncing it wrong this whole time, for the same reason I theorised people mispronounce and misspell coulrophobia and tome - because they don't know what the word actually means.
I have become the very thing I sought to destroy! 😧
