Finishing the rift seems impossible (burned out)

    Agreed.

Basic math says it takes a MINIMUM of 3hr/day for 70 days, assuming no challenges get done. Including challenges, that drops to like 2hr/day for 70 days.

These people who play 14hr/day for a week and then say "rift is easy" are ridiculous.

I expect to finish it, but I think I'm getting close to the 200 mark at this point (I lost the document where I had recorded my hours originally so I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure I remember what the number was).

@Not_Tru3 Finished the rift like a month ago. Granted he bought like 7 tiers or something, he plays a lot and would have it all now anyway.

It's doable you just have to play the game A LOT.

I am currently ranked 50/70, and there are two level 3 challenges left.

Steam indicates 4 hours of play (so less in practice) per day during my last two weeks.

I regularly calculate how far I will get if I finish the whole Archive, and for now I will probably have to play more or pay. Knowing that the Christmas holidays and the family are coming...

It's totally possible to finish it so far. But you have to play a lot.

Knowing also that the difficulty of the challenges increases, it might be preferable for the first levels to come out faster. Go from 20 days between each level to 8/16/24/32, for example.

@Sairek Yes, forgot about that. That was my previous play amount with about 20 hours per week (including idle and stuff) and brought me initially to level 6 by just XP fragments.

@SilentSpectre basic maths is a bit rough. There is a complete thread that defined it in its detail. Result was, you need 3600 XP per day, which is exactly 1 hour pure playtime per day, assuming that this time is enough to finish the challenges as well, also assuming that you play at least one killer and one survivor match for the daily bonus XP each day. Problem is, every second above 10 minutes in the same match doesn't grant XP anymore (600 max) and you need to add queue time and stuff. And that is variable. You need one hour per day playtime + your varying overhead. Which is in my case about 2 hours in total. You need to check how long you play to get 3600 XP to get your own average. (And your calculation can't be correct, the challenges give you pretty exactly half of the rifts, second half needs to be achieved by XP)

The levels are pretty easy to complete, maybe on level 3 you need to start grinding and maybe act a bit silly to aim for the challenges, but to me it seems that level 3 would be achievable in 3 weeks with the average playtime. I've done it in 1 week and would have needed 2 weeks if they didn't redce the requirements and if I played just the average time of 2 hours a day.

The only critical thing I see, which was clear from the beginning, is level 4, that gives you no choice than go through the challenges one by one, putting hardcore difficult blockers pretty early in the path. You still have more than 1 day per challenge, but level 4 really needs grinding and therefore controls your playstyle for full 3 weeks, as there are no grinding challenges, just special case master challenges. Still talking about average playtime, not more like me or less like maybe many others. Let's see what they make of it, after they already changed level 3.

Tip: For trapper trap challenges, call in a Haddonfield offering. Easy peasy.

    That works too, lol.

I used haddonfield, and trapped all the windows. Chase someone up some stairs, trap. And for whatever reason they keep doing it. It's funny.

In case you wanted a hard number-- taking into consideration the head start we all had, it took me 180 hours to finish up to Tier 71 and complete Tome 3. I finished a lot of the challenges in one try, especially for Tome 1 and 2. I highly doubt anyone can finish the Rift by playing one hour a day, even with the extra fragments from Tome 4.

  • Dr_Loomis
    Dr_Loomis Member Posts: 3,703

It's very possible but all depends on the amount of time a player can dedicate to DBD.

I'm around tier 50 (almost got the new Trapper rusty weapon), and since completing the level 3 Tome Challenges, I've only played a couple of times a day if that, getting dailies etc.

To be honest, the only other reward I am after is the police tape shotgun for Hillbilly. Other than that, there isn't really any incentive to grind.

Update: I finished tome level 4 and found myself at tier 50 now. No way I can reach 70. Well, not gonna buy your pass BHVR. This grind is disgusting

I wasn't even playing alone. I let my sister playing or went afk to farm XP. Do you want me to Play all day long every day?

Yes. The whole point of Battle Passes is to keep people engaged in your game and not other games. Then hopefully they can get you spending on MTX/DLC.

Battle Passes have never been casual friendly.

Really sad. But hey, no money from me then. I already played way to much than I usually do. This was more like an experiment. The next rift I ain't playing this much again. This is truly anti casual

I play 1, MAYBE 2 hours a day. i did all the challenges as well. I'm at level 70. I don't see the issue.

  • DwightOP
    DwightOP Member Posts: 2,328

No clue how you did that. I finished all challenges, played always 2+ hours and the past week I was letting my sister play when I get bored or went into matches afk to farm more XP, which increased the playtime to 5+ hours a day for the last 7 days.

I think you play much more than you realise (/want to believe).

Or, instead of calling me a liar, you could get better at the game to maximize your XP gains. You get next to nothing by being a Blendette gen jockey. You gain SIGNIFICANTLY more XP from boldness and chases. Get rid of Urban Evasion, replace it for something else.

I play, at most, 2-3 hours a day, if that.

Completed all challenges and The Rift.

    It is fine, imo.

You can always AFK Wraith your way to the top if you really want to.

*You do know you don't get a flat rate of XP per match, right*?

    Oh dear. "Cringe AF"

I see, I feel like I'm dealing with a teenager. I should have realized it when they said the rift was impossible to complete.

In tome 3 you need to do 4 gens with dark sense. That's not possibile if you play solo

  • AshleyWB
    AshleyWB Member Posts: 4,061

Also just to add. For Console players it takes upto 5 minutes to load into each match let alone the matchmaking times. On PC it's pretty much instant.

The grind is way worse on Console because the average match lasts longer meaning more matches need to be played and the loading times are embarrassingly long.

I've been slowly climbing, most challenges done but still I'm only at lvl 45 or something like that.

The rift just rewards the people who play everyday and the people who have stuff to do miss out on the rewards even if they put a massive amount of time into the game and even if they complete every day challenge they aren't even close to finishing the rift.

It would be stupid for me to buy the next premium rift pass because it's very unfavorable towards Console loading times and people who have matchmaking issues at some point like I had for a long while.

Actually I'm pretty sure rift xp is based on the time spent in each trail. The longer you survive the more you get, except there's a cap so you can't just hide. I think the cap is 800 xp for 800 seconds of being in a match.

Im on xbox. I dont play everyday. But sometimes i play for 3 to 4 hours. I have 4 challenges left to finish everything. As of this morning I'm tier 60.

If i do 1 tier a day I'll be fine. As it is i have both level 4 basement challenges, the hook obsession challenge and the third level unhook 1 during egc to complete. I probably wont get the basement ones and the egc thing has been getting the better of me.

I play solo 100% of the time. So yes these challenges are doable without coordination.

UPDATE: I finished it. After finishing all challenges, I had 20 tiers left to grind by playing. The onky way to do that: wraith AFKing. And I did that (sorry for all the boring games survivors had). I checked out my steam hours, the past 2 weeks I had 84 hours played just on DbD. This was just to grind out the last 20 tiers by XP. So it's bs, honestly. I was keeping on my pc for multiple hours, how in the actual F is this casual friendly??

    Congrats on finishing it.

I have been stuck on tier 37 because I got burned out of this game.

I didn't even manage to reach my personal goal....

I got burned out long time ago aswell, actually at tier 50. I just afk wraithed to tier 70 while chilling on youtube or played other games. I won't do that to myself again next pass

  • LordGlint
    LordGlint Member Posts: 8,685

I always find that kinda weird when I hear that. Personally, I still have 4 tiers to go, but 12 challenges left to do it with. Ive heard ppl saying they finished it before the last level of challenges was even available.

  • AngryFluffy
    AngryFluffy Member Posts: 443

I also finished the rift a few days ago and I played 3+ hours a day, sometimes even 8 hours to archive that. It is definitely too grindy and kinda takes all the fun. When I did these basement challenges, I was frustrated like I've rarely been before and I don't want that to happen again. If they remove the "complete in a single trial" nonsense, I'll probably try to complete the next rift too, but I highly doubt it...

May I ask why u used wraith for AFKing? If you'd have used any other killer, survivors could at least farm some chase points themselves to not lose a pip or waste bp offerings. Just wondering.

  • DwightOP
    DwightOP Member Posts: 2,328

Those people got boosted with multiple tiers unlocked at the start. Others who started from tier 0 are facing the true experience of that grind.

  • DwightOP
    DwightOP Member Posts: 2,328

I picked wraith because otherwise survivors would stay in the match the whole time, farming points, waiting and doing nothing etc.

But since I was just interested to farm as much xp as possible and since after 10 minutes in match you reach the maximum xp I avoided that by picking wraith and hiding somewhere.

I know, a dick move from myself. But that's the fault of the devs making the grind so insane that I don't even want to play anymore. And that's from someone who plays dbd on a regular bases for multiple hours per day

  • BBQnDemogorgon
    BBQnDemogorgon Member Posts: 3,615

I was one of those people but only because i played DbD like it was a full time job 8+ hours daily to be sure i hit 70 before the holidays.

We also had a week or two where we gained levels in the rift before it even released/started.

Its unrealistic for most people to do this and obviously leads to major burnout. I quit DbD for weeks after doing that.

That's the point nobody actually talks about. Most people got a head start because of that technical hiccup, where you got about 1 week of XP added to your Rift Tier. Next time everybody will start at Tier 0. No more head start.

Good luck getting to Tier 70 with 1 hour of playtime per day and Rift Challenges that give you only 3 Rift Fragments.

First i wouldn't admit to doing 84hours of afking as I am sure the devs won't take it lightly that you are doing this.

This can be seen as an issue so a change of not actively playing nets you little to no points.

Secondly it should take a lot longer being afk as playing wields you more points per match towards it.
