Can Yui speak English?
It just occurred to me after getting her Adept yesterday that Yui might not be able to communicate with her fellow Survivors directly and that, if Adam isn't on hand to translate, she might not be able to understand what the others are saying or be capable of expressing herself to them.
Unless there's confirmation somewhere I've missed that she can or cannot we can only speculate, but I just wondered what anyone else's thoughts on this were.

It seems, from her lore, like Yui at least completed Junior High, and left to pursue her dream instead of applying to high school (which I believe is not compulsory in Japan). As a Junior High school student, she would have studied English, but probably not enough to be fluent in it, and likely would struggle particularly with spoken English. It's also possible that she had the opportunity to interact with more English-speaking foreigners through her fame as a sportswoman, although there's nothing in particular to suggest that in her lore.
So my guess would be that although in theory she would be able to communicate verbally with the other survivors somewhat, she might have some difficulty doing so (excepting Adam, of course, with whom she could speak Japanese).

She'd probably know how to say a couple of catchphrases in English as at some point in Japanese culture, it was considered really cool to be able to speak it.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. Not just with Yui though. Feng Min has been described by Benedict Baker as a lone wolf. How do we know that it's not because of a language barrier? She could possibly be a very outgoing character, but she might feel like an outcast due to only knowing Chinese, and as such keeps her distance.
Something interesting to think about.

I’ve literally thought about this since Feng’s release and no one has ever said anything about it.
Thank you.

Just like @VolantConch1719 said, I really do think that both Yui and Feng know basic phrases and words in English but not enough to hold conversations.
