Keys and Ebony Moris

For those who don’t like long posts, there’s a TL;DR at the bottom.

So from what I can see here on the forums, a lot of survivors complain about the Pink Mori and how they are unfun to play against, whilst killers complain about Purple and Pink Keys giving survivors free escapes. I can see where both sides come from regarding the other’s power tool (I am a survivor main, but hear me out on this one). The common problem with both is that they end the game earlier than most people would want them to. I had posted this idea in one of the discussions in general discussions, but thought I would share it here.

The changes I propose are as follows:

  • Ebony Mori would have an extra condition to be satisfied before being able to be used. As well as hooking a survivor before being able to use the Mori, you must accumulate a total of either 3 or 4 hooks out of 12 to be able to use the Mori. The main reason for this is a lot of people are complaining about tunnel Mori at the start of games, which I completely get. It sucks when it happens, especially if there is nothing you can do once unhooked, you’re consigned to immediate removal from the game. I’ve been on both ends of it, and haven’t enjoyed it either way if I’m honest.
  • The Hatch no longer spawns with 5 generators remaining. This should be a change implemented regardless of anything else in this thread. I’m sorry, but whoever thought it was a good idea to make it possible where a survivor could do literally nothing and still be able to escape is actually thick. This is the one and only game I’ve ever seen where you can do zero of your objective and still, by technicality, win. It’s so dumb and should seriously be reconsidered. Why it was made a thing in the first place I’ll never know.
  • The Hatch cannot be reopened at 4 gens remaining. This is to counterbalance the fact that killers need to complete at least 25% or 33% (depending on 3 or 4 hooks being used as the benchmark) of their objective to use their power tool, it’s only fair that survivor has a similar stipulation tacked to their power tool.
  • Dull Keys get retired. There is no need for this item. Skeleton Keys do everything it does and more. You may be thinking “but Skeleton Keys are rarer!”, which you’re absolutely correct, they are, unless Plunderers Instinct is in play. Let’s face it. If you want to use the keys addons, you’re best using either a Skeleton Key for the two addons that prevent loss of the Key or one of the Skeleton or Broken Key if you want to use it for the Aura Reading part, because if I’m not mistaken, the Dull Key has less usage time than both, so it’s kinda just... there. Survivors don’t really need a second item to near enough guarantee an escape, especially when Plunderer’s is in play.
  • Broken Keys Buffed. Not too big a change, just give the Broken key more usage time to make up for the fact that it cannot open the hatch. 20 seconds seems like a reasonable amount to me, even as much as 30 seconds is reasonable given the trade-off mentioned above.

These are the changes I propose, trying to be as unbiased as possible in the situation. I understand both sides frustrations around these two things, as it gets really annoying facing Ebony Moris and losing to a Key, especially those found mid-match. I should note that the other two Moris would go unchanged. I understand Ivory Mori would still allow for a tunnel Mori, though it only allows the one kill, so while it makes the game harder, it’s not impossible for survivors to win by any means as the killer would still have to do 75%+ of their objective to win if you include the first hook followed by the Mori. All in all, I don’t think either are that unbalanced, but the changes above would certainly help game health especially with DC penalties coming into force at some point in the future. While I would like to see those who DC still banned for, well, DC’ing and ruining others’ games, I’d rather not see a chunk of the playerbase suddenly disappear because of two game-winning tools. I personally don’t have many issues with either, but I know a lot of people do. That’s all for me.

TL;DR - Ebony Mori changed to have a number of hooks condition, Hatch doesn’t spawn at 5 gens, Hatch spawns but can’t be reopened at 4 gens, Dull Keys Removed from the game, Broken Keys Usage Time Buffed.
